Funny how fans who don't know any better still use this label on Brady.

I think 90% of it is just anti-Brady stuff from haters or just to yank Patriot fans chains but it's funny how this has stuck over the years. And today we're hearing the hot takez come in using this label as somehow last night (like 2008 with Cassel) was "proof" that Brady is a system quarterback. To me last night was a testament to Belichick's all time greatness at what he does and has little to do with Brady but I digress.

I know every quarterback in a way is a system QB but let's use the term as the knock that it is. Scouts call a lot of guys system guys and I can't think of one of them who had this label who amounted to anything in the NFL. To me it's a label you get in college - that you are only good in that particular offensive system and you would be exposed very quickly when you stepped up in weight class and outside the system. Does that sound like Tom?

Maybe they think that Tom being so good at the short to medium passing game makes him a fake QB or something. Maybe they are 15 years behind the times and still think Tom has no arm and that makes him a fake QB. Maybe you're not a real QB if you play for one coach and one team in your career. None of these are true of course.

Very bizarre.

Brady is THE qb. Many of the alltime greats would struggle in today's specialized nfl. To minimize his talent & greatness is ridiculous.

However : games like last night make me think BB is actually underrated. That guy is Gold.

Fans of the lesser 31 just watched NE beat a SB contender in their home stadium without Brady, Gronk, Lewis, Ninkovich, and with a decimated OL. They're just putting out this narrative because they're salty. It's the only thing they've got to try to make themselves feel better about what they just witnessed.

************.

The only system Brady can't run is the read option and the wishbone.

Knowing Tom and his work ethic I really think he could have given the read option a viable try if he put his mind to it. Maybe not a great idea at 39 though.

It's the only way the losers can justify what happens to them. The patriots are not that talented compared to *insert superstar highly athletic player on own team* so there is no way they should win and definitely not as often as they do. They must be cheating. Oh wait, they have Tom Brady so that explains it he covers for everything. Wait....no Brady....and they STILL win? It must be the system. It all boils down to trying to explain the uncomprehensable to them that hard work, better preparation, and never overlooking a single detail with a group of dedicated men who buys into the team concept trumps talent every time. That's the "system" and if I was Brady, or any patriot, I would take it as a compliment.

This was the perfect storm for the local media, either BB blew it and wasted a pick on Garp or Brady sucks. Or if you're Squeeky and the Douche, you probably try to argue both. I wouldn't know because I haven't tuned into those clowns since they were trying to argue the Patriots didn't want to be at the SB parade.

Good points. Come to think of it I think a lot of it is based on the origin of Patriot Hater nation - the resentment by a lot of fans toward the Brady/Belichick Patriots for permanently ending the NFL that they loved, the era of big stars, individuals, big dynasties and big names, and where teams like the "Patsies" knew their place and rolled over for the big names. I mean who did a system QB like Brady think he was beating the Rams that night... right?

I agree to some extent, against "normal" teams, TB is a system QB. However, once it's on the fly, and defenses are adept at disguising what they are doing post snap it's all on TB AND his receivers. That's elite level knowledge and to sell him as a system QB is a disgusting idea.

Meh. No knock on Tom but he is not a threat to break one.

Even though Urlacher may disagree.
This has to be the Brady statue pose (that will of course be taken down before the first game)

Such an epic move.

That was an incredibly physical game too
Refs nearly gave that one to the Bears with a bs PI call on I think Hawkins to get their only touchdown. Luckily Rex Grossman hit Asante Samuel over the middle to end it. I think Rex may have thought Asante was on his team or something that day...

I'm over this long ago. Who cares if other people think brady Isa system quarterback. I for one am so happy we have a great system that can continue winning even though Brady's not playing. Honestly I don't care about winning so much. I care more about great football. If 2 teams play great football and we happen to lose, then it's fine by me.

Anyone who claims TFB is a system QB should explain:

- exactly what system he runs

- exactly how the system works

- why isn't every other team replicating that system with mediocre QBs and winning multiple Superbowls?

Instead of 90%, I think it's closer to 100%. Now calling someone a system QB is considered a negative. The haters most often point to Cassell and the success he had as proof that Brady is just good because of the system. To them 11-5 would probably be a highly successful season. They don't realize that 11-5 for the Patriots is below average and not winning the division or making the playoffs was a disappoinment after going 18-1 the previous season. Belichick and the Patriots have a great system but it is Tom Brady that has driven the team to it's heights of excellence.

Joe Montana was a system QB too. West Coast offense was the name of the system.

Doesn't mean any qb can be effective or master of a system.

That game also gave birth to one of my all-time favorite memes....
