Mesko was cut as Allen was cheaper and about the same quality of punter.

He did nothing wrong just circumstance. Nice to see him doing something awesome.

Been garbage ever since he was cut, wonder if it destroyed his confidence.

Allen is better.
Allen is an excellent punter, but I think his ability to handle bad snaps is what makes him great. He dealt with a ton of terrible snaps by Aiken while both punting and holding. I don't believe he ever mishandled one.

A lot of people may disagree with this, but Cardona's long snapping still needs work. Although he gets great velocity on his snaps, a lot of them have been very low. The high velocity and tiny arc keep the ball from hitting the ground and Ryan has been handling them, but it could bite the Pats in the arse some day.

Disclaimer:
I think Cardona is a good LS and don't resent the 5th rounder spent on him.

Allen was kicking the cover off the ball. I remember a certain poster or two complaining that cutting Mesko was the wrong move because Allen was "out kicking his coverage". Whoops.

Allen has a bigger leg but tends to hoof the ball out the back of the end zone fairly often, Mesko didn't have half the leg Allen does but seemed to have better control.

+ Allen was cheaper, he's an excellent holder and touch can be learnt.

Allen is also a lefty punter... and BB sees that as an advantage because return men aren't used to the ball spinning in that direction. Every little advantage.

I think Mesko was actually a pretty decent, a good teammate and active in the community. He just got beat out by an UDFA that was the real deal. BB is unsentimental and constantly panning for gold.

He was fine here but Allen was better and he didn't play well for the Steelers which really cost him.

the real reason is mesko was bad at holding place kicks for EP and FG.

Ghost had a REALLY rough season, and it seemed like bill lost trust in him, and then allen shows up and ghost is back to being in the top 3 of kickers again.

mesko was also a left-footed punter.

mesko was a funny guy from what i remember.

He got better as the year went on, but he struggled with consistency early on. His training camp and preseason was especially rough.

Mesko got obliterated during training camp. I was there and reported it every day here. Allen consistently outkicked him in yardage AND hang time. Still, there was extreme resistance to any idea of cutting the "Zoltan!". Fans love their binkies. Thank Krist BB doesn't.

just got cut...pretty soon when the next cheap left footed punter is available, Allen will be cut as well....
