Bob Ryan demonstrates his a**holishness yet again

Bledsoe must have been gossip central for the bitter writer crowd. I know he was for Borges.

As the story goes there was a whole lot of butthurt for Borges & Ryan because BB allegedly lied to them about Brady ascending to the throne and Bledsoe not..

They believe that BB should have kept his "promise".... Patriots mediocrity would have served them better.

The old timers still want to believe their words can shift public opinion. In the Globe's glory days, they could and they did. Now, strong opinions by the likes of Ryan aren't manufactured for local approval....they're crafted to feed a more national audience that loves Patriots negativity and Ryan's catnip will get him some attention on the national sports opinion shows. "Bob Ryan is bashing Brady and lovin Manning...let's get the Boston guy on ...he most know what he's talking about".........crafty like a fox. It's all about getting coin from national media.
I've wondered what these guys get paid per appearance on shows like Around the Horn.....and what "experts" get paid for weekly radio spots like Mort on WEEI.

Also.....16 years of sitting in on BB press conferences...getting nothing from the hoodie....muttering "what a SOB" while walking out of a Patriots presser with nothing in the notebook. Is it a surprise those mediots not beholden to the team will let it fly when an opportunity presents itself. Being accessible creates currency with the media and PayMeATon has a lot of currency......Brady and BB don't....such is life in the spotlight.....different approaches....different treatment.

ryan appears on ATH every now and then. lol

all of these baseball guys are jealous of the pats.
He's always primarily been a basketball guy. And about 10 years ago he became a colossal ###hole.

Ryan is 69 years old. Why is he still working? He should be retired, writing an occasional book or whatever instead of irritating us.

No comment about Ryan, but your 69 years old comment is way off the mark. I am 74 and still work full time and will continue to do so because I love it. 69? That is young! Back then I hadn't yet lost those 20 yards on my golf shots. :)

Weird comment. Peyton is as close to NFL royalty as there is.

Yeah, that was a weirdo comment. Peyton comes from a famous football family, and is picked #1 in the draft. Brady is the epitome of Horatio Alger and was #199. He is lunch-pail Joe who has built a colossal business empire. If anything, he is everyman's dream of what he, himself, can become.

Ian, can't we impose an age limit on posters here? Say, nobody over 71?

He is pathetic. An example of what happens after the world has passed you by.
Has the world passed him by? Seems to me Ryan has adapted quite well for a part timer.
Bob Ryan, Boston Globe, local TV show, ESPN: Between the two, he’s clearing over $300,000 a year, but it could stretch as high as $500k.

Ok so in Ryans World PM gets a pass and is spared from scrutiny because his public persona is that of the common man?

Is he explaining the rationale or supporting it as a reasonable one?

Both, it appears.

About when his son was killed.

Mr. SLGDEV.....if that picture above your screen name is really you, have you ever entered a Wayne Huizenga look-a-like contest?

Nobody said that fools aren't paid well. ESPN proves it every day with their collection of talking heads. The fact remains that Ryan was once part of a great paper's great sports pages and like the paper itself is a pitiful remnant of what once was.

I loved Bledsoe back in the day...even hoped he'd return as starter after healing from the injury. But now we know that Bledsoe's career stats are eerily similar to Jeff George. Both guys were known for shooting first and asking questions later...the difference is Drew played for a better franchise and had a longer career. Jeff was always the #1 pick who never became the great player he was supposed to be.

Knowing all this, the only people who still favor Drew over Brady or justify that he was screwed and that BB made the wrong decision are either:
1. Delusional
2. Blood relatives of Drew (I am guessing even Maura Bledsoe would choose Tom)
3. Ron Borges

About when his son was killed.

I'm sensitive to that but I don't think his son's death has influenced his position on the Patriots.

Hes been a Day 1 blaster of BB and righteous jerk for two decades now.

About when his son was killed.
By his own hand, I believe, which is about the most horrific thing that can happen to a parent. But, Belichick, Brady and the Patriots had nothing to do with it.

While he claims Manning is the "common man," Ryan stating he earned a pass sounds like the kind of excuse that's made for the well thought of son of prominent and wealthy family.

His bitterness in general is quite palpable.
