Bruce Allen weighs in:

ESPN hasn’t published a single thing about this story since December 29th.(Too busy breaking federal laws?) NBC put out Manning’s side of the story giving him the chance to tell Peter King how angry he was about it. How he was “probably” going to sue. Which he hasn’t done yet, despite two other athletes doing so already.

Like Chris Price wrote, I don’t care if Peyton Manning took HGH to aid his recovery from injury. Athletes do what they need to do to keep their careers going. I don’t really begrudge them that.

For me, this story isn’t really about Manning. It’s about the coverage of the allegations and the blatant hypocrisy of many in the national media. Once again, they’re showing their true colors, this time by their silence.

Brady vs Manning – Rivals Even In Media Hypocrisy

Instead of deflategate last January, what if it came out that during his recovery from the ACL tear in 2008, that shipments of HGH were sent to Tom Brady’s house, addressed to Giselle.

What would the reaction have been? Would the national media have called it “a story that on all levels is a non-story?”

I think we know the answer.

That about sums it up.

Bruce Allen is oft overlooked in the sea of "mediots" who will do anything for some attention, any attention will do..

Now it is learned that Jim Nance and Peyton* share the same agent... Agent 99 ???

The whole thing is so aggravating.

Like I said before, when you fellate the media for as long as the Manning family has and you make cool commercials in the process, this is the benefit. Brady does nothing of the sort. All he does is win all the time. Can't have that in 21st Century America now, can we?

For me, this huge discrepancy in coverage is disgusting and revolting!

What's worse, I think this crappy sports coverage is a microcosm of 21st century media coverage in general. It's not about news, facts, knowledge (science), or evidence. It's about clicks, entertainment, exaggeration, contrary-isms, distortion, big-media collusion, and preying on the worst characteristics of human nature.

It is getting harder and harder to get real news, balanced reporting, and information. Very few of us have the time to sort through all this to stay reasonably informed.

Life in this century is certainly a challenge! [END OF RANT, sorry}

Go Pats!

Waiting for TMZ to do a little digging..

Manning's massive investment in the junk food industry has resulted in money in the coffers of NFL owners. Just follow the money, and we'll understand (at least part of) why Brady and Manning are treated differently.

Me too!! I hope their getting a lot of requests sent their way! I've never quite understood how they get all their info but they definitely have a way of digging it up and they don't seem to care what the nfl has to say or others...at least I hope that's true, makes me sick how all of these media people bend over backwards to protect the nfl and now manning.

When I think about the MASSIVE discrepancy between the coverage of these 2 stories, its just disgusting that people really exist that think this is perfectly acceptable behavior and treatment. God I hate the media.

The media is only a bunch of fans with a mic in their hands. They choose sides and that's it.

The problem is the double standard by the NFL, shouldn't Ted Wells be working on a report by now?

The unsavory truth is they pay for a lot of their stories.

Not only 'cool' commercials, but big corporate commercials--pizza, insurance. Brady does Uggs and watches, rubs elbows with social elites. Manning rubs elbows with the corporate elites. He's untouchable precisely because buddy-buddy with the Jim Nantz's of the world, while Brady spends his free time at horse races and vacationing in Brazil.

Further to that point, if people don't think this same dichotomy exists in other media circles they're fooling themselves. You get infuriated by this because you know it well and are emotionally invested, but the same things are happening, on a far larger scale, in business and politics.

Science too. The reasons you mentioned are why I gave up a career in journalism to pursue business instead.

The league and sports media love Manning because he does exactly what they want. He doesn't win ALL the time. And he brings them revenue through commercial that the league sponsors. He fits right into their picture of parity. Manning is in it for the money and attention, TB is in it for the rings.

We're going to have to rely on TMZ, Deadspin, and sites like them because other than the New York Times big media is boycotting this story.
