Disgusted with WRs

For a Super Bowl contender, we have great TE & 1 real good slot receiver. The other receivers are nothing but Jags who would be backups on most of the playoff teams.

Jags
******
LaFell
Amendola
Martin
Dobson
Harper

I would love to see the Patriots get Brady another #1 type WR on the outside to go with Edelman & Gronk.
1. Edelman is not only a slot receiver. He moves around all over, and very often lines up on the outside.

2. Our receivers seemed to be up to task last year in the super bowl against the dangerous Seattle secondary.

3, Why do so many posters here continue to claim that #1 receivers have to look like Megatron or Dez Bryant. Why can't a smaller guy be a #1 receiver? Antonio Brown doesn't fit the mold of what people scream for here, and yet he's amazing. Edelman is much more of a Brown light type of WR than he is only a "real good slot receiver". Edelman continues to get open constantly, and scores TDs, even the best corner covers him, and everyone knows that he is the main target. Does that not make him a #1 WR? To me that is what makes someone a #1 WR. That is what makes Edelman a #1 WR, that it what makes Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and Dez Bryant #1 WRs, and it's what made Welker a #1WR here.

4. What's wrong with having your best receiver being a guy that does his best work with quick routes, and going over the middle, when that is the main focus on the offense.

I have to ask. Where are these super awesome receivers the Pats did not pursue? Teams tend to be better at drafting certain positions. The Pats are good at drafting defensive line, offensive line and linebackers. The Steelers cannot find good defensive players, but have skills at finding good receivers (who also tend to work only as Steelers and not on other teams). We'll see what that skill gets the Steelers in the playoffs in the end.

In lieu of crying about how the Pats should have these great unnamed receivers and are failures for not getting those guys, list some examples of receivers that the Pats actually had the draft pick to grab (and who the Pats would lose with the actual draft pick by selecting someone else) or an available free agent receiver that would not have broken the bank to obtain (there is a salary cap, as you may have heard).

This isn't Madden NFL, so if you believe Belichick could have added some great receivers within those constraints, then fire away. I tend to agree with the above statement that these lousy receivers were somehow good enough to win a title. Brady did throw the ball to more than Gronk in that game if your memory is hazy.

Stefan Diggs,Devin Fucnchess, Tyler Lockett
Jaleel Strong, Chris Conley,Dorial Green Beckham.
One of those players on this team makes a difference Chris Harper is awful.
Brian Tyms was our best receiver at attacking the ball.
Its a shame he got hurt he should be getting reps ovef Lafell im sure he could of took the next step.

What's frustrating is seeing deep bombs to WRs that are slower than their defenders.
What's more frustrating is knowing NE doesn't have a #1 next to replace at least one of the long list of JAGs on the OL, RB, WR. Sure lots of compensatory picks in the middle to late rounds...the same rounds that brought us such a quality interior OL.......sorry for my desperate sarcasm.

It's a shame the refs won't even let Keshawn Martin play. May as well cut him.

If you're talking about the OPI, well, that one WAS OPI.

Worse than Martin is Gronk, though. he's being held on EVERY PLAY. He's dragging guys along on his routes. It's disgusting.

It almost feels to me like that pats have allowed the league to put them in their place these last few weeks (since the Denver game). I've never seen anything like it. So instead of going balls out with all the injuries, they're working on the little things - trying new blocking schemes, treating it like the preseason.

Maybe the FU tour begins again in 2 weeks. I cannot believe that the same team we saw on teh field yesterday will show up in two weeks.

I'm seriously considering going into dark mode for a couple of weeks. All these entitled, *****y, wanna-be fans coming out of the woodwork pissing and moaning over not having WRs.

Maybe if the oline could pass block longer than 1.8 seconds Brady might get a pass off.

The next week and a half is going to be brutal here...

Amendola is not a jag. He has the best hands and fights for the ball everytime. If lafell played like him he would be an all pro, actually if Martin, Harper, Dobson or s chandler played like him we would be unstoppable.

Seriously.

Its acknowledged that this team has concerns. Oline, health, and overall not playing well these past few weeks. There is a legitimate concern that if the line continues to play the way it has and Brady is getting shelled and Hightower and DMC go out some team could walk in here and win.

Every team has the same concerns and more serious flaws that the Pats.

With that said I'm a helluva lot more confident that this coaching staff and this team can rectify them over the next few weeks than every other team out there.

But for God's sake talking about the 2016 draft and potential free agents and wide receivers and pissing and moaning over every little thing is absurd.

The entitlement of some of the people in this fan base is bordering on embarrassing.

It amazes me how the same people who talk about the crap Tom has been given are the same people who will boast about all the success, AFC 'Ship games, SBs. He has apparently been given crap all these seasons, but he is somehow still being talked about very seriously as perhaps the greatest QB ever? Didn't he win a SB with the current crew? Did the Pats not look like the absolute best team in the game out the gates while everyone else looked like they were playing preseason games through 8 or so weeks before the injuries piled up? Is this not the same team that has come back in games and come within one or two plays (or bad calls) from winning even the games they lost (except yesterday)?

I would never call myself an apologist for anyone on the team or in the organization (my post history should confirm), but don't let frustration cloud what you have seen. I get the LaFell has been vastly disappointing this season, but he played his role extremely well last season and that counts for something to me. Maybe he finds his form in the next few weeks. Let's hope Jules comes back close to what he was, though you never know with his type of injury. Amendola should be alright with some extra time off. If Gronk remains upright and we get a little from Jackson in the run game . . . oh, and can White continue to build, then they'll be okay. I really want to see White get more touches . . . and I wasn't saying that a few weeks ago admittedly.

woodwork? fan since 1972.....sorry I don't have enough posts for your liking. WR is a weakness....doesn't make sense when you have Brady.

Brady was given the same offense that he won the super bowl with +1 year of experience and Dion Lewis, can't account for injuries when you build the roster

I agree, but even during the offseason my brother and I discussed just how lucky we were in 2014. After all, three of our top four receiving options (Gronk, Edelman, Amendola) have had injury plagued careers. ALL of them were fortunate enough to be healthy for most of 2014.

Trust me, I think those three (plus Lafell) did warrant another shot at a title defense. After all, on paper they look great, but their injury plagued pasts have risen once again. It's too bad a signing like Reggie Wayne didn't pan out.

I would argue it makes MORE sense when you have Brady. Spending draft and cap resources and big, deep threat wide receivers when Brady can excel with (and may be better suited for in general) smaller, shiftier WR's that are on the same page as him, means you're robbing talent and depth from other areas. We fielded the top scoring offense in the league (pre-injuries) with this group, and it allowed us to invest in our LT (who unfortunately got injured), Sheard (who may be our best pass rusher right now), and will likely help to keep 2 or 3 out of Collins, Hightower, and Jones going forward.

If we had a mediocre QB, we would NEED the big shiny WR to make him look better. But then other areas would suffer. Brady allows us to field a better overall TEAM.

They basically needed Dobson to show something this year and again he failed...I don't know what it is with them and drafting receivers, thats my only issue I guess. Agreed that overall the offense is built around injury prone players unfortunately.

WR depth was an issue. We knew that from day 1.

Relying on the oft-injured Edelman and Amendola was a risk. We knew that from day 1.

All the WRs have a real shot at being healthy come game 1 of the playoffs. We didn't know that from day 1, and we'd all have been willing to take those terms at that time. Let's enjoy the next couple of weeks.

dobson........waste of spot in retrospect......that's a spot reserved for someone who should be contributing mightily

beyond that, this is beat up.......these are the guys who won an SB last year....they're just alot more beat up this year

time to damn the torpedoes and throw the kitchen sink

We really couldn't do better than Lafell. So sick of watching so many young talented receivers playing for other teams while the GOAT is handed crap every year. Marshall cost the jets a 5th rounder..my gosh..give Brady a tall WR.

Pats problems have nothing to do with Wrs, its bigger than that. The obviousness of this problem is likely the reason I won't be watching next season because it's too predictable, at this point. Watching Fitzpatrick throw the game against Buffalo was just, wow... I know he sucks, but 3 ints in his last 3 drives, when they could've easily won that game, is more laughable than our brilliant plan to job to MIA, while getting Brady injured and losing hfa. What's funnier is fans trying to convince others that Belichick prefers the 2nd seed or Belichick prefers to kick. Well at least that will be the excuse when we lose to the chosen one in Denver.

The NFL has become too lazy to offer actual "entertainment" and real storylines for teams, these days. Sad. I'm just side eyeing these games now and shaking my head.
