Hang with me for a minute, this is going to get tinfoil hat level crazy.

What if Bill, and Tom sat down and concocted a plan. A plan to put other QB's who were bending the rules a little back in line.

During the season we had seen things, and heard things about other teams doing stuff to balls, Rodgers over inflating, the vikings heating them up mid game, the Jets game the balls were SUPER over inflated. What if Bill and Tom saw this, and started to wonder why nobody was doing anything about it, The patriots were always playing by the rules since cameraplacementgate, and now there was this big thing where teams were BLATANTLY breaking a rule, and nobody gave a ****. So there drinking a bottle of i dunno 600 year old whisky, dry aged or whatever it is super genius's drink.

Lets bring all those other QB's back to earth. So they set in motion a plan to get the spotlight put on them, we'll play with minimally legally inflated balls, the cold weather will know the psi down, and we'll leak to a couple of those whiney teams that maybe our balls are improper, because they won't have any doubts that those teams will whine and cry about it.

Of course they didn't think the league would throw AS big of a hissy fit, but they did expect that the league would be more strict in enforcing the psi levels,

And looks whats happened. Peyton is done, Aaron rodgers looks pedestrian. Nobody is even close to bradys level.

That one is out there - seems like if that's what they wanted to do there would be easier ways to do that without putting their reputation at risk - but I do think these two are valid unanswered questions that might have some conspiracy theory behind them.

Did people in the NFL front office and ESPN make large bets on the Seahawks to win Super Bowl 49 and therefore let the lie about 11 footballs being underinflated by 2 lbs each stay out there to distract their opponent?

Did someone try to sabotage Brady in that "16 PSI" game? Who and why? Did they too stand to financially gain by a Jets win or Brady missing a prop bet?

As a bonus benefit, they could recapture the same spirit of fun they felt after Spygate broke.

We will find out what they "knew" someday. And Bill's "there are a lot of things that they need to straighten out" quote about the league is intriguing in itself.

Belichick will no doubt be writing a book after he retires. I can't wait to read it, and I don't think the NFL will like what he has to say.

I don't think the Pats volunteered to be put through Deflategate.

There may be a relationship between the closer attention being paid the the preparation of the balls, as a result of the NFL* being forced to act like it is something they cared about, and the cratering performance of some teams who were expected to perform much better.

Ironically, it appears that the ones crying foul the loudest, may be the ones suffering most by the fallout.

Certainly Rodgers was known to like overinflated balls, and maybe other QBs are suffering by not getting balls to their liking, but cannot complain about it for obvious reasons.

Maybe revenge is a dish best served self-inflicted?

Despite all the highly functional brains in the Patriots organization I don't think any of them thought much about the IGL and natural deflation. So when Brady had them inflate to 12.5 or slightly lower and then they naturally deflated they got too soft. They explains why Brady is better than any year except 2007, including his deep ball. In a weird way I think the NFL actually helped the Patriots (other than "The Theft" of the draft picks).

Love it.

I rather think of the implosion of other teams/players as plain karma.

And karma my friends, is a B....!.

I don't believe for a single second that that was "the plan" but I do think that it is a result of what has happened.

I hope to God you're right. It's a fervent dream I've had since September of 2007.

I just hope I'm above ground and compos mentis when that book comes out

Cliff's Notes Version of What Really Happened in Framegate

  • 1) Colts get a note from the Ravens about bad kicking balls (because an NFL guy was stealing them).
  • 2) Colts then fabricate a story about past NE GAME BALL deflation and pass it on the NFL Pats-hater Mike Kensil, who plans a sting. Not well, though, as it's super-sloppy with respect to record-keeping.
  • 3) AFCCG: nobody takes any air out of any footballs, but the game is played at 48 degrees.
  • 4) Kensil thinks his sting has worked, since he has no idea that temp affects psi.
  • 5) Kensil lies to the media about all footballs being >2 psi down, maybe even convincing Goodell of the same (or, more probably, Goodell himself LOVES the power of that lie).
  • 6) Before anyone talks sense at all to the NFL, millions of dollars are spent and serious accusations are made (the sunk cost principle). This means "there is no turning back now, after we've come this far and spent this much"
  • 7) Seeing the problem, the NFL orders Wells to "make the numbers work, however you can" and he does.
  • 8) Deceit, ego, pride, lust for power, and the sunk cost principle means that, in the face of overwhelming evidence, the NFL simply won't back down. Ever.

It's a great theory. I would love for Brady to use it the next time someone asks him about deflategate. Yeah, we brought in on ourselves to stop the cheaters. How would the haters react to that?

McNally waddles out of Goodell's office after being integrated one last time. Goodell suddenly realizes that he's been played the whole time and runs after McNally...but it's too late. Scene cuts to McNally slowly waddling down the street and all of a sudden the waddle turns into a brisk athletic walk and with a tug he pulls off his fat suit revealing a tall athletic frame. He jumps into the passenger seat of a waiting Rolls Royce Phantom and he returns Gisele's smile as she puts the Phantom in gear and drives away.

We already know. NOTHING HAPPENED.
There is nothing to find out in the future.
