Think we can increasingly expect to see more of DMc at CB, especially in nickel/dime. Not an awesome development, but at least Harmon has been playing well at S.
He hasn't shown that he can play the position very well. Seems like you would just be weakening two positions then instead of one.

@dougkyed: The Patriots could technically waive CB Darryl Roberts off IR with an injury settlement then re-sign him, but he'd be exposed to every team.

Loophole gamble is possible

Actually, they would have to wait several weeks before they could re-sign him. I believe it's the number of weeks of the settlement +3 or +6.. They did that with Larry Centers way back.

And if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a trolleycar.

I don't know if this is revisionist (or legit aren't old enough to remember) history with Poteat and Moreland, but the Patriots didn't win BECAUSE of those guys, it's because their front 7 was so good, and they were able to cover and pressure.

GTFB isn't a difficult coaching point to take, and that's what those guys did.

Remember, Troy Brown was a legitimate option at CB that year. The INT against Bledsoe was cute and all, but THAT is how good that front seven was. You could put two ****bums and an 11th-year WR in at your three corners and win 14 games, and a Super Bowl.

I like Butler and Ryan just fine, they'll give up some big plays, just concede that because they're young, etc. but they'll make a lot of plays on the ball.

If they waive him with an injury settlement can he still be claimed off waivers? I don't think he would clear waivers.

Butler, Ryan and Coleman have been playing well. We're fine if there are no further injuries. Harmon can be the dime back.

Yes, we have depth issues. Melvin is an attempt to address this need.

Anyone know if Troy Brown is available??

Maybe sign Felger. The Pats would win the game and someone could knock the living sh*t out of him.

That's a Win - Win situation right there for yah. Yes Sah.

Sure the Pats are thin now with CBs actually on the roster. But gotta be some comfort in knowing 5mil in cap space going to Revis. You're still helping the division at least. :D

Ha just jokes guys. I know it sucks. Last year was freakin miserable with our secondary and all the injuries. If anyone can get it to work, it's BB. Hopefully better luck (excluding Jets weeks of course).

The Patriots would have to release him and could not sign him for however many weeks the injury settlement is for (or six weeks if there's no settlement agreement.) In the meantime, he'd be a free agent available to every other team. There's no way (barring an under-the-table handshake agreement) that they'd be able to keep him.

I think they’ll mix McCourty and Harmon in at CB, run a ton of 3-4 safety sets.

So, your position is that the vast majority of good or top corners in the NFL are top draft picks and picked before we first pick at 30 or so?

You have to look at it on a probabilistic basis. Maybe a low-round draft CB has a 1:20 chance (or whatever the right number is) of being a good corner. Over several years you get a couple of hundred of these guys drafted league-wide, and you end up with say a dozen top CBs from that wide net that was cast.

You draft a top-10 CB, and you have a much higher chance he ends up as a top CB - maybe a one in two shot.

So if you are always drafting low, the chances of ending up with a top CB are pretty poor. It does happen of course - look at Butler.

Why take the chance on waiving him? Claim Charles James off waivers from the Ravens, he was just put there.

Not as easy as it sounds.

Doesn't he have to clear 30 other teams before us?

Good news! They've signed Cameron Fleming to the NFL roster, so the CB problems are now a thing of the past...*

*Yes, I know

Leave Harmon where he is. He has very little experience as a CB
