It would not surprise me if BB took him in the first and surprise us all.

I wouldn't be stunned but I have a feeling they like Watson and Thomas enough that a JAG like K. Brady is good enough - as long as they like Thomas we don't really need a young guy. If we didn't have Thomas that would be different.

i wouldn't like it at the time, but i wouldn't be surprised. I didn't like it at the time when we took Ben Watson, but I was actually happy with the pick afterwards.

I think there is 0.0009% chance of this happening. Olsen is a big receiver, not a blocker. I'd love to see them select Spaeth in the mid rounds, he would be a perfect replacement for Kyle Brady in a year or two, he's one of the best blockers in the draft.

Agreed about Spaeth.
Or the kid from Iowa Scott Chandler, 6-7 270.

Either way I think they'll draft a blocking TE with tons of size to be a nice, MASSIVE, end zone target.

yes, i would be much happier if the pats drafted a later round TE to develop rather than using a 1st round pick on Olsen.

I'm all about taking the best player on the board, but at some point you have to contend a position is addressed. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if we took him and I do think the Pats got a good pick. Unlike with the Panthers or Green Bay, he wouldn't be tossed into the fire in the first year.

Actually, it would surprise me. How many time can a team take a TE in the first round? Besides, Greg Olson may be gone by the time the Pats pick (hopefully).

Never, we will never take a TE when we have a quality starter, we will never draft a OG in round 1 and forget about a round 1 RB.

that could ruin a draft day. i think they need to stay away from combine freaks and go after football players

To answer your question, yes, this might happen. I'd put him in the Top 18 most likely to be picked by us.

If he gets taken, it will ruin my draft day....

for about five minutes. Not unlike last year, when we didn't draft Manny Lawson, I was sad for about 5 minutes, and then I'll be over it, and realize that it is going to help our team, and Belioli know better than I what theis team needs.

From your lips to God's ears, especially if he goes to someone other than the JEST. :)

As I said in a previous post, BB's dream draft probably goes like this. :)

1a. Greg Olsen
1b. Zach Miller
3. Ben Patrick
4. Matt Spaeth
5. Scott Chandler
6a. Joe Newton
6b. Martrez Miller
6c. Kevin Boss
6d. Clark Harris
7. Gijon Robinson

I really don't think they'd bite on Olsen, not because he's a TE but because he just isn't that great a football player. He has excellent measurables and it's a thin position this year, so he's gotten hyped as the pick of the litter. But I'm not convinced Olsen is really an upgrade over David Thomas.

I think Miller (ASU) is more of a complete TE than Olson. Olson catches the ball with his body too much. doesn't block very well.

JMO

Seriously, I wouldn't even use a pick on a TE this year. Instead, I would sign a couple of UDFAs, like Rudy Sylvan, and see if their blocking skills are worthy of a spot on the PS.

There's no room for a TE, especially high. And Olsen isn't that good, just a workout warrior.

I think the whole BB always drafts lots of TEs thing is just wrong. He drafted them when he needed one.

In other words, then, NE has always needed TEs under Belichick. (When was the last time he didn't draft a TE?)

That was pretty funny :D

I would be shocked if Greg Olson were considered a high enough value to be picked in the first round by the patriots.
