NFL Playoffs: Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys - odds, stats, preview and prediction

Doesn't make him a thug. That's the point of the sig. Pro football is entertainment, and he's very entertaining. That pro wrestling villain act he does gets people every time. Look how mad people here are and we have played them once in his entire career.

It's funny because with the skip thing, he turned skips words back on him. All he did was critique skip as a journalist, Skip got just what he was looking for, a sound bite. Sherman put out those better at life T-shirts on his website and made a few bucks.

I cannot stand Peyton Manning but if a Patriot player, white, black, or green, got in his face as he was walking off the Gillette stadium field after a loss and started screaming "YOU MAD BRO!? YOU MAD?"

...I just don't think I'd be okay with that.

Sherman chose a particular path, very intentionally, to make himself a household name and get endorsement deals. He can live with the labels he's created for himself, especially in the short term and immediate after math.

You're probably not completely without a point here. Maybe if Gronk was black and threw a white Sergio Brown outta' the club he would get hit with the thug label, where as it happened he didn't, but you can't possibly pretend that Sherman didn't bring it on himself. He became an obnoxious loud mouth in order to further his brand and get media exposure. Cheap tactics get cheap results. This is the same guy who went out of his way to yell in the television camera that Crabtree was a "Sorry receiver" after winning the NFC Championship game.

Just as many people know who Revis is and I don't recall Revis having to act unprofessional to accomplish that. Revis just played awesome ball and that spoke for itself. Coincidentally, Revis is probably the most respected and feared cornerback in the NFL.

But whatever. I was just curious. You're the only Patriot I know of that has love for Richard Sherman.

Win-Win

My guess on this board is that 95% of the posters are white. No surprise that some (an extreme but present minority) of those equate black people that don't fall into the "yessir, no sir do your job and keep quiet" archetype of the "Patriot Way" with "thugs."

It was a clear cut DPI, and the ball was absolutely catchable. You're way off on this one. Let it go.

Honestly my stance is pretty neutral but it's the other side that is fanatical. I'm apparently a scumbag of the highest order. I said I've seen this called and not called. It goes both ways plenty. The contact didn't force him down so it's negligible. I thought it was weird they picked up the flag after the call on the field was announced, that's as far as I go.

While he is face guarding Stafford throws @ the defender's back that doesn't make it a DPI by rule, so how is it catchable?

Good for him. Explain how it makes him a thug.

it doesn't make him a thug. but it sure doesn't make him 'smart'. i always thought he was a smart guy until i saw him on TV with skip and many appearances. and then his stupid mockery of NFL - which was beyond ******ed. some of the point he made just flat out 'dumb'.

and i never once called him a thug. i always viewed him as a punk.

but you will never know if he is a thug or not in real life. so you can't claim he isn't a thug. there are many 'smart thugs' out there. those guys are true danger to society.

So when the pats players did the lights out dance against the chargers @ mid field you boycotted right?

He critiqued Crabtree @ his profession, Didn't even attack him personally or use profane language. The uproar was completely lopsided. I would've thought he called the man's mother bad names or something the way people were acting.

I love Sherman's story. It's as American as apple pie. I don't mean to go at you, that isn't my goal. I Apologize if you felt that I did. I kinda lumped you in a little Which is wrong becuse of the all the posting.

I simply respect his game and his work ethic to be among the best at what he does. The "act" he puts on has resulted in him being a household name. Endorsements, attention, etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a brand in an entertainment industry. I think the thug talk is ill suited and comes up for one reason. Not saying you yourself has engaged in such. The people who do know who they are.

It was a blatant DPI. If you wanted to argue that it was OPI as well, you'd have a slightly better case, though even that would be weak sauce.

Nah. In fact, I posted a thread this off season saying how much I loved it, and how much I wanted the Patriots to dance on team logos again, and became forum villain for the week over it.

Got me there.

Black person voicing their opinion better accuse them of throwing the race card lol.
Are you really that much of a moron? Go back and read your own damn post!

Check his mentions on Twitter following the NFC championship game. I dare you. Thug is a mild one actually. To call a person a thug when they have done nothing close to thuggish, sigh. It's clear what's going on.
WHO CARES what anyone outside this message board thinks of him? I haven't seen anyone here on Patsfans call him a "thug," just a punk -- which he is.

I don't think anything he has done would constitute as shameful.
Which speaks to your lack of perspective on what constitutes respectful behavior. This is your biggest failing regarding the creep. You're making it a racial thing to justify or somehow absolve his misbehavior.

The fact that fans of a team in a conference care enough to debate him means he's doing something right.
Or maybe something WRONG? (Gawd, you are a piece of work.)

Also he's really really good at what he does.
Yes. Playing cornerback and being an unsportsmanlike self-aggrandizing arsehole.

Brandon Spikes was called a thug here too when he left. What did he do that was shameful.
I've been on this forum pretty much every day for the last 10 years and never once saw Spikes called a "thug."

And now we've got idiotic "racist" posts being made in thread under the guise of not being surprised about white "racism". Great job, guys.

Bad no call or not, it hardly matters. The Lions put up a grand total of 6 points outside the first quarter with zero points in the fourth. They didn't have egregious no calls on every single drive, they just couldn't get it done once the Cowboys D had their number. Bad calls happen to every team and as far as I'm concerned, the Lions offense just didn't execute.

Before the 2nd half Lions had hardly any penalties.

It's sad we have to sit here and yet again...have to talk about the refs

Today's NFL

Man, really wish we had picked DeMarcus Lawrence over Easley....

Could really use that sort of defensive presence on the D-Line at this time of year.....

We'll, except for him almost costing them the game by running around with a recovered fumble he looked good.

You might be better off not broadcasting your guesses. I've seen absolutely no evidence of that here.

That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. That's great that you realize that Richard Sherman is not a thug. I thought it was a pretty funny lighthearted joke that most people took as such, it's fine if you thought it was in poor taste. You agree with a 100K fine for what Lynch did? I think there is an error in the perception of people's intelligence based on how they talk. Talking a certain way means almost nothing.

I don't understand why you are agreeing with dudes who clearly have less sense than you do. The MAJORITY of thugs are not from a stable family, don't have good educations, and have a very small world view. The MAJORITY are not Valedictorians or graduates from top 25 universities. There is a direct link from poverty/ lack of education to crime. The data says highly educated thugs are not very prevalent. Assuming an educated man is a Thug based on nothing(race) seems dubious at best is my only point. Not saying you are that person.

Test taking also isn't the best measure of intelligence. Some people just aren't good in those scenarios. So his wonderlic doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme.

He's reaching for the ball, IgnorantTrollFrom Philly...and Sherman did NOT have a 1400 SAT score, nor did he graduate with a 3.7 GPA nor did he obtain a master's degree, IgnorantTrollFromPhilly...your sig is an INSULT to every fan of the NFL, IgnorantTrollFromPhilly, as is your ridiculous defense of an obvious PI call that WAS called then overturned minutes later without an explanation.

Time to crapcan your current nick and go back to your original SB39 login.
Well, I have no particular dog in this fight, although I will note that if trash talking makes you a thug, there are a LOT of thugs in the NFL, but wikipedia actually says Sherman was an honors student who graduated in 2010 with a 3.9 GPA and an undergraduate degree in communications, and that he returned for his final year of eligibility and began work on a masters then.

Just because a someone got good grades from a fancy school doesn't make them magically a wonderful person.

it's natural for fans to call him a thug. is he a thug? probably not. but

1. he acted like a thug on the field - challenging brady, calling out crabtree
2. he acted like a thug on a national televised TV vs. skip - acting all tough.

maybe he is a good boy. maybe he has bad intentions and release his bad intention on a football field to channel his evil. who knows.

but if he doesn't want to be called a thug then stop acting like an angry man from compton.

So i take it the bar has been set. You can run onto the field from bench..no flag
