If there were an injury to either of our two QB's, who would be our 3rd that could step in
He was so bad in camp and preseason that the Rams decided to cut him and roll with 2 QBs... who were Shaun Hill and Austin Davis.
I wouldn't hold my breath that he'll be anything more than a tackling dummy.
Maneri is a monster - he was in Patriots camp this year. Good pick up to add blocking depth at TE as the weather gets worse and the running game promises to get more prominent.
I'd presume that Edelman is the emergency option.
There usually is a non-QB who at least at some point in camp gets a few "just in case" reps. It used to be Kevin Faulk, to my understanding.
The old late season shadow roster move. BB always has a backup plan.
Not wanting to over react to Maneri's signing (he could be gone tomorrow) it's not really optimal having an OL as the 6th blocker. A TE who's a strong blocker with some pass catching ability is certainly preferable both in terms of predictability and functionality. I know Maneri isn't a top TE, obviously, but he gives a short yardage receiving option that Fleming and Cannon don't.Is Maneri's signing more of a prognosis on Fleming's return, or an indictment of Cannon (aka The $9M Man)'s performance
And if we manage to make it work, ten points probably wins the game. The jets offense is atrocious. If we get up early I see no problem limiting to shelf talent reps while attempting a ball control offense.Does this mean we are planning a heavy dose of the run game against the Jets? Seems like an odd choice as they are stout against the run.
This also gave cannon reps at lt. Given the contract extension, it makes sense. It also gives solder a minor amount of rest, while making for some serious beef on the over load side of the line. I also think solder is the more athletic of the two, a better potential candidate in space as the eligible receiver. In the last game they had Solder reporting in and out as tackle eligible. Every time he rotated out he had to sit a play. Odd.
Maneri, potentially, can signficantly reduce that as a professional end-of-line blocker.
Of course, it is highly unlikely this has any impact on the coming game against the Jets. Almost certainly will be inactive.
This gives belichick the option of Brady being inactive against Buffalo.
