Here's a guy who had 3 total tackles in the first 7 games of the season (with the Titans).

In 2 weeks with the Pats, he has 2 sacks, 9 tackles, and already looks like he's taken the starting job while learning on the fly.

He had a key sack on 4th down. It looked nasty, but I'm glad the Forehead wasn't injured. He needed to play the game out and fail on 4th down over and over and walk out with his head down.

But back to Ayers. Love this pick up so far. It's not every season where a promising young player gets traded to you for almost nothing. There were question marks about his knees, but he looks 100% healthy and ready to go. I wonder how the Titans possibly could've been using him so improperly. The guy was a stud just a couple seasons ago and just wasnt given a chance this year.

He's fit in perfectly and looks like he's known this defense since training camp.

Look the guy obviously had talent when he was on the field. He put it together for one year. But it just looked like injuries took their toll. It seems (so far) he has found a possition here in NE.

Just because a player doesn't work out somewhere doesn't mean they are a bum. Just look at McClain. He just needed time to mature and get his life together, now he is killing it with Dallas. Good luck to Ayers.

He has certainly added some athletiscm to our LB core.

I would really love to see what Titans fans are saying about their GM/team re: this trade now. :D

Definitely a key contributor in such a short time and doin it on fly. He will only get more comfortable and better as games go on.

Ayers is a nice find, low investment.. big return. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Casillas was also very noticeable on ST's....

Casillas made some nice plays on STs. Spot on, Ayers's health is key and with Bye Week now can only help both with any dinged up players and off Broncos win practice on field and film room will get Pats gelling and DEF more familiarized with new/vet players getting on same page.

They seem more upset by coaching. They either think he dogged it so good riddance or they absolutely don't understand why he was an inactive. I've been following message boards since we got him because I love reading opposing fans when they're miserable. I'm kind of a jerk fan that way.

Yea I'm actually surprised they didn't. While the refs probably couldn't see this in real time, Ayers initially made contact at Peeton's thighs and then it slid down from there

Yeah, on replay, it looked legal to me, for that reason. Just barely high enough to be ok, just above the knees, and then gravity took over.

But that's the kind of call the refs have been making this year...if it is marginal, it gets called.

Exactly. Because some years all you end up with is a tub of lard named Sopoaga ;)

Ayers played 77/82 plays yesterday. Some workmanlike efforts. Ninko all 82. Collins and Hightower all 82. Revis and Browner played 81 each. McCourty played all 82. Me thinks the bye is coming at a perfect time.

i wonder if we still make that trade if mayo doesn't get injured

Pretty amazing that Ayers, who was a HIGH 2nd round pick by the Titans was given up on so quickly. I also wonder if, with his size 6'2 4/8" - 255lbs, he could end up playing inside in the 3-4 next year or if they move Hightower inside. Regardless, he's playing well and seems to have picked up the system well. I hope they run more stunts and twists with him and Jones. That definitely surprised the Broncos yesterday.

Anyway, I hope they let us know if they have any more 1st or 2nd round draft picks that they'll trade to us for a Tampa 7th.

Ayers played 77/82 plays yesterday.

There are three things I think gave them confidence to throw him out there quickly after the trade. 1) He's shown good, quick instincts in his zone drops. 2) He's also a 'sudden' player in the rush (what we're still waiting to see from Easley) with an excellent first step 3) he didn't have to do more than 2-3 different things for play assignments, just rotating them.

He duplicates the Collins skill sets quite a bit which as we always say give BB flexibility in employment.

You sly dog, you got me monologuing!
