I'm not 100% sure who it was (Willie or Vrable) who absolutely crushed Warner in sb36. Pepper was on the sidelines screaming, "They knocked him out! I think they knocked him out!"

I'm pretty sure that was Vrabes.

3. Mike Jones on Stan Humphries in the 45-7 game (Dec 96). Humphries blinked about 1000 in aminute.

I completely agree with this hit. I remembered the hit but was trying to remember which Patriots actually made the hit.

That was a scarey moment. Humphries had a blank gazed stare look. He had know idea of where he was or what was going on.

Nobody remembers any Andre Tippett highlights?

What about the hit that Rodney gave Edge in the playoffs, I believe, in 03... The one where Bruschi was "toying" with Edge, and Rodney finished him off... Ouch... Hit him from behind...

Tim Fox used to lay the lumber.....and Vincent Brown, the undertaker, had some viscuous hits.

YESSSSSS thats the one that easily hurt the most. It happened at the 2 minute warning in the 05 playoffs. They were trying to drive down for a complementary TD but the Patriots D wouldnt let that happen. On the 3 games to Glory DVD you can just see Edge's persperation just fly off his face. His back bent pretty good and probably knocked the wind out of him.

2nd place could be any defensive play on the 36 superbowl. Hits on everyplay even away from the ball. I still remember Vrabel mauling Faulk even if the ball was on the other side of the feild.

3rd place would be the Broncos vs us because Brady just always seems to get hit even though the D-line is terrible on the Broncos. They always seem to get in his face and knock him down.

That was such an aware play by Bruschi. He knew he had Rodney coming to lay the wood so he went for the strip.

Samuel had the hit on Stokely, Wilson had the hit on Wayne.

Both were brutal.

those were amazing

didnt Tippett nail Ken O'Brien in the '85 playoff game? I seem to remember hearing reports how the Jets sidelines heard O'Brien on the phone to the coaches trying to order a pizza.

i know i know, we're taking football, but this may have been the most important hard hit (besides Mo Lewis on Bledsoe) in New England sports history. It turned around the series and gave Boston a title

YEP!! and you explained it better than I could but that's the one!! I could hear that hit all the way on my couch.... It was one of those were you scruntch up and say out loud " Ouch... or D@mn... That had to hurt." lol..

Re: What was the hardest, most vicious hit ever laid out by a Patriots player in a gam

Tebucky's hit in the SB vs a Rams WR, occured in the first offensive series -- which definately set the tone the rest of the game, sending the strong message that the Pats came to play.

Agreed 100%. I was about to post the same thing. You beat me to it.

I believe Garin Veris broke through and flushed O'Brien scrambling right...straight into Tippett. Malachi Crunch heard all the way in Boston from New Jersey.

The biggest collision I ever saw was Ted Johnson stoning Jerome Bettis, I think late 90's. Bettis hit the hole (inside run) full steam, and Johnson just stopped him cold. Bettis got up eyes wide and blinking waay too much, and had to come out of the game. That may have even been in one of their playoff games (96-97?).

Re: What was the hardest, most vicious hit ever laid out by a Patriots player in a ga

In the 2002 Opening MNF game with the Steelers (The supposed "revenge" game), Willie McGinest hit Kordell Stewart so hard as he released the ball that it looked like he got hit by a car. He just flew backwards. The play resulted in an INT returned for a TD that got called back by a penalty. Unfortunate, but still a memorable hit. Deion Branch got a great block on a Donald Hayes (who?) TD too, if I recall. The Pats just kicked ***** that night all around.

Re: What was the hardest, most vicious hit ever laid out by a Patriots player in a ga

In regards to the talk about the late great Darryl Stingley which I can honestly say was the WORST hit ever given to a Patriots player on an NFL field can you give an opinion on what you think was the biggest hit ever laid out by a Patriots player on another teams player?

Did the hit require a stretcher for the injured player and what game/year it was and was it a hit that put the player on IR? -Thanks
Curious why you ask?

Was that the hit that tore Johnson's pectoral muscle and put him on IR?

Re: What was the hardest, most vicious hit ever laid out by a Patriots player in a ga

My candidates would be:

1) Ben Watson on that Int return for a TD... where he obliterated the guy right before he went in for a TD... they called it a TD anyway, but I disagree.

2) Virtually any hit on a Rams WR in that first SB.

No I remember he kept playing in the game I'm thinking of, although the timeframe seems about right.

Re: What was the hardest, most vicious hit ever laid out by a Patriots player in a gam

The Bryan Cox hit on WR Jerome Pathon of the Colts was a memorable one. IIRC, that was in '01.

Tebucky's hit in the SB vs a Rams WR, occured in the first offensive series -- which definately set the tone the rest of the game, sending the strong message that the Pats came to play.

There must be a Rodney highlight hit in there somewhere (probably a late one :D).
Those are both my two favorites of all time, also. I'd put the Jones hit first because of the game.
