So...could we trade, Asante & #28 to say the Redskins for #6. We could get LaRon Landry which would be perfect.

That pick would be a guaranteed 15 million dollars. Might as well give it to a known palyer like Samuel..

That would make my offseason. Landry is a mini Rodney Harrison, IMO.

No way would I take a Safety over a Corner back.. That would be crazy.. Especially with a deep draft in safties this year..

I love to see that.. But looking at it from is point of view.. He wants the money.. Who can blame him.. Everyone wants more than they are making.. Its the american dream

I've posted it before but I'm not surprised that what Samuel thinks his value is is more than what BBioli think it is. I've been hoping, and still do, that he'll play for the tag this year with the Pats promise they won't tag him again next year. If he won't do that, and it's his right not to, then they should trade him. BBioli are goping to do what's best for the team. IMO, if he won't play for the tag for 1 year, it's best for the team to get what they can in trade.

Hes a system player that fits well with us. He wouldnt fit anywhere else and be half as productive. Remember, at the start of last season he would be lucky to be considered in the top 30 CB. Now with like 8 fluke INT and only 2 really good plays. He is going to get like 70 million. Man I wish I was an NFL player.

Asante is a proven commodity.

By getting rid of him you offset whatever upgrading you did through free agency.

Our secondary is far from being the deepest in the league as is.

I think we overrate Hobbs on here a bit.

Moving Wilson to CB doesn't guarantee solidifying that position. Personally, I never thought he had enough quickness to play corner in the NFL. On top of that, Wilson seems to me like a guy who's getting older alot quicker than his age would show. I think Rodney covered a lot of his flaws.

You can't bank on Gay for anything more than a nickel corner at this point.

Plus, there is the chance that Rodney may have tailed off alot more due to age.

I don't consider rookie corners viable alternatives. This draft has a lot of "potentially" great corners. No sure things.

Give him Bly money. He won't get the entire signing bonus up front. He still has to earn his money every year of that contract.

Zero chance? His Value is at an all time high he is either A had a fluke get money year in 06 or B. He's reaches his prime. Either way he has gone above the expectations of a 4th round draft pick without a doubt. Now last year besides Champ Bailey who was the best cornerback in the league Woodson? Or maybe Deangelo Hall? No well ask green bay how easy it is to get a young stud cornerback like Ahmad Carrol uh oh he got cut from the team cause he was a bust! So you honestly don't think that we can pull a high draft pick using one of our first's or maybe even third pick to get in the top ten of the draft and I would trade Assante to washington for Rocky Mchintosh and third or even a fourth no questions asked. This was all posturing by BB o yeah we want Assante to be hear long term The man has icewater running in his veins and was just posturing his value before the draft. No CB in this draft will be as good as Samuel besides Houston possibly but he doesnt play run so forget him. Hall wont be a playmaker and no1 else is really worth thinking about as a true #1 CB who willever be top 5

CBs are 1 of the hardest positions to find a true shut down guy at now.

Yeah with Deion and Givens we lost to the Donkeys in the divisional playoffs, we got dismantled. Then a year later with Caldwell & Gaffney we are minutes away from the SB. Aside from the freak drop, losing Branch and Givens did nothing to hurt us.

Look - if Asante goes, I'd like to see the Pats get 2007 compensation as opposed to the Branch situation. What I think a lot of people that say "look, we got a 1st round pick for Branch - thats fair" oversee in my estimation, is that there was a GAP in there between the loss of the player and the pick. That one season without his replacement probably cost.......a clock killing 1st down in the 4th quarter of the last game.

I know this is an Asante thread and don't want to get off on a tangent about Branch, but I'd like to see SP broker a 2007 return if the organization can't broker a deal.

I hope it doesnt come to that though. Asante is good but stupid teams like SF has artificially set the bar way too high for good corners.

It's kind of a 2-way street. True, NE had a better record and made it deeper in the playoffs without Branch or Givens. But imagine having at least one of them on the field in any one of our losses (especially the Denver game) - the 2006 Pats could have been another 14-2 squad, with at least a bye and a better shot at the SB.

Things being as they are, I'm glad we found some surprises in Caldwell and Gaffney while beefing up with Stallworth and Welker.
