I live in hope that the Andre Carter reclamation-like projects continue here for many years to come. Groves would be a nice addition to the Patriots.

Didn't he have a huge game against us when he was on the cardinals in 2012?

he was drafted where Collins was...52 in the 2nd round. Had an oblation to correct an irregular heartbeat before the draft in 2008. The Jags moved up in the draft to get him. He lasted a season. He's never really showed up since. Who knows, but I smell JAG.

Not that I disagree but Belichick has a special ability to coach up these types of players.

He is an athletic beast, or at least he was at Auburn years ago. Purely a pass-rusher, but apparently worth a look.

I like who they are looking at...him...Williams. Pure rotational however but depth is never a bad thing

A pass rusher only with 8.5 sacks in 6 years?

If the Patriots had drafted him and got that production he'd be crucified in the forum before he played half that many.

He was signed by Cleveland when Lombardi was there. For the same reason I could see Jamoris Slaughter ending up on our PS if no one else signs him, he was recently cut after Lombardi drafted him in the 6th round coming off a torn ACL.

That's 8.5 more sacks than Jake Bequette.

About the same as our JAG Ninkovich averaged the last two. Of course, he's not really a pass rusher.

I'm up for trying anyone out, by the way. Just pointing out the incredible "grass is greener in the other yard" tendency.

Ah, memories...I loved Groves as a draft prospect, but right before that draft I heard an interview with a plugged-in analyst who was asked to name a prospect most likely to be a bust, and he immediately said Quentin Groves. When he was asked why he turned awkwardly cagey, as if he'd regretted even saying it, and implied that he knew something about the player that he wasn't at liberty to reveal. And sure enough, Groves never came close to living up to the potential I saw. Probably just coincidence. Probably.

Anyway, seems like a solid choice for camp competition. DE strikes me as a likely position for some surprises and roster shakeups.

Difference in averaging 8.5 a year and having 8.5 over 6 years lol

8.0 two years in a row, to be precise. But I'm just being sarcastic. Try out anyone who might help, but kill Chung, of course.

Groves was a favorite of many on this board in 2008:

6 years later, not much productivity. I wouldn't expect much. But as camp competition and possible depth, probably worth a look.

Did you know Chung was only 16 when he enrolled at Oregon? He'll be 27 in August. If BB is giving him a second chance I'll trust his judgement. We just signed a 27 year old TE from UNH people are exited about. 27 is prime. If this kids still got what they thought they saw, we're about to get it for short money.

After reading your post about "killing Chung" I'm officially on his bandwagon.

Stated.

Groves may be a JAG but roster composition is about improving the 53. If the salary component is Patriots friendly, Groves is an upgrade toward the bottom of the roster and at his position.

I don't evaluate because I don't see them and I wouldn't be qualified to evaluate practices anyway. I do think his injured shoulder was a big reason for his decline and, since we've got a ton of cover people now, if it's healed, he was a pretty dynamic player that knows our system and we got back for cheap. Obviously overage wasn't his strength, but he's not the only safety to struggle in that area.

Yes, I know how young he was at Oregon, I read all that stuff when I checked to see, if he was indeed, an outstanding special teamer.

Seems like a bargain to me. The fact he was here before should be a plus, not a minus and he fills the role of a safety/special teamer at a good price IMO.

If Groves has better potential as a pass rushing specialist than his stats indicate, that's great too.
