Yeah in that game vs Ind he was siiiiiiick yo!

Looking forward to this D and player this season more than most in recent memory.

I'd like to pump the breaks on this Collins hall of fame talk. Lets see some consistency before jumping on the train.

Very in depth and well written story.

PFF is bad for your IQ and opinion forming process.

If they said it was raining outside I would probably go and check.

Nice stats, but little else.

I'll print it out only because I need some toilet paper.

I like everything I see from Collins, but PFF is useless.

Yea shame on people for being excited about a promising young talent that they drafted with their first pick last year.

He made an impact in his rookie year, which is saying something, and has demonstrated freakish athleticism that allows him to match up on WRs (like smothering Wes Welker for instance).

Collins made some plays, while there are others he'd probably like to have back.

BB would have told us that much.

Hoping for beast mode out of this guy and many others in the front 7. With this new secondary I definitely think there is some room to make things more aggressive and many more ways to disquise what they are trying to do. Domination in 2014.

The thing that excites me the most about Collin's improvement is that it was across the board, in pass rushing, run stopping and coverage. To me that says he "gets it" and has adapted to the speed of the pros.

I ran out of papers for my Js...this will do fine!

Yeah, I hate PFF and all the bs 'ratings' and crap whatever they say. its all stupid. They had ninkovich rated out as a top flight DE someone tried telling me. Nink is good, decent, nothing special. PFF blows.

But, as for Collins, kid can be very versatile as we all know (played S, LB & DE in college) so he can cover and rush. I think if he continues to grow rapidly from last postseasons performance yes he could easily be a superstar, but lets see the consistency. I think he's already a solid starter even without growth. Its really nice to know he's learning from Mayo, makes me think he has a bright future.

Good article find B6. Thank dude. I have said this b4 he is DPOY candidate. Everybody here knows I'm not over optimistic or bias in favor of our own players. He is one of the most explosive Qwik twitch defenders in the NFL. He can cover, his instincts improving every passing week. Forgive me my friends here for suggesting this. He could use 10-12 lbs of functional muscle like you can say about almost all qwik twitch defenders entering the league including Demarcus Ware who entered 6'3 3/4 255LBs. Filled out to nearly 270 and rest is history. Same with Clay Matthews 6'3 245 and filled out to 260 his first season and became an elite passrusher. Collins reminds me of Claymaker or Ware but Collins is more natural in overall LB duties. He is an X factor in our defense. This is a guy who could be double digit sack artist as a 3-4 rush OLB playing olb in a 4-3 role. When he blitzes, offenses while trying to contain our 4 down lineman will have no answer for him. But I'm serious he does need an additional 10 lbs of muscle. He has the frame for it,won't slow him down at all.

I know saying he needs to adDE10 lbs or so can sound negative. But almost all player of his skill set you can say that for. Cleveland took Mingo #6 overall and that's first thing they mentioned as did Dallas with Ware and packers said with Matthews. Here's the thing, with minor tweaks of certain players which are done all the time by teams, this defense has more talent than the Seahawks. Easley, a rare talent as a rookie will be most disruptive DT in the NFL,Jones steadily improving physical skills,Zach Moore has raw skills equal to almost any pro bowl DE,Hightower is fairly athletic for a 270lb mlb(but slightly to big for a speedy passing league)but if he adds a touch of burst/quickness he is the most unique mlb in this league then. And it will show up when in coverage or closing on a duel threat qb. Reevis,Dennard,Ryan are as good as any 3CBs in the NFL. McCourty sticking finally at fs will finally be recognized as Earl Thomas Caliber. Browner probably takes some snaps at SS. He is unquestioned the best SS in the NFL. Better in coverage than Chancellor. At 6'3 1\2 224 Lbs he can cover any TE in this league and most big WRs(may struggle with speedy ones but handles most) He can drop in zone deep or the slot well as Byrd or Ward. But what separates Browner is he can man up any TE. Shorter SS's like them cant. Browner also is a sure physical tackler. Not quite the hitter Chancellor is but can handle more coverage duties. Browner/McCourty gives us 2 physical sure tackling safety's elite in any coverage as safetys on par with corners. Logan Ryan makes jump this year to pro bowl status. He is long physical with terrific makeup speed gear and elite ball skills. With improved passrush 7\8 ints wouldn't surprise anybody. Wilfork/Kelly can occupy blockers and free up the playmakers on defense. A healthy Mayo's return is important and pulls the defense together and adds another fast capable LB.

I know saying Hightower is best at 255( still huge mlb) upsets some but this is a passing league with speed to burn and then some. Duel threat qbs are a serious threat gashing defenses for 200 YARDS rushing is VERY real. ANY Lb at any time BETTER be able to cut them off for more manageable gains instead of GameChanger 50/70 yard runs. 10 lbs of muscle and power helps the young Collins in becoming the most dangerous defender in the NFL. Seattle's defense will pretty much be forgotten as fast as hairbands did when grunge/alternative hit like a bomb. Our Defense could be known as the NFL Alternative/Grunge to Big Offense and duel threat qbs.

Collins has so much potential, it is scary.

I couldn't be more excited. I just bought two Nike Elite jerseys of his, one Home, one Away, because he is a beast!

You're right that PFF has horrible witchcraft like methods of coming up with stats, etc.

That said, I posted a link from them with this same disclaimer a week or two ago, because I stumbled across it in a different article. The link I posted showed some nice .gifs and breakdowns of how he improved with his specific assignments, and .gifs that showed how out of position he was in the first half of the season, etc.

In that case, I didn't mind that it came from PFF, because video rarely lies. Their numbers (I don't know how the hell they come up with this stuff) suck, which has given them a horrible reputation--and rightly so.

That said, I believe that their use of video makes this Jamie Collins article much better:

90% of this board hated the Collins pick, with Deus the ringleader of the lynching party. A year later and some newb is talking about "twitches" and added muscle and making asinine comparisons to other NFL players. Collins played safety, linebacker and D line at Miss St. Led the team in tackles by a staggering amount. Played hard on a team that went 0-12.Collins racked up 20 tackles for loss (and 10 sacks) for the Golden Eagles during his first-team All-Conference USA senior season. His athleticism and explosiveness was RIGHT THERE to see during camp. Still, the hater brigade, as they always do, continued with the constant negatives.

At the start of the season and going forward, did he look lost here and there? Yes. Did he miss some assignments and tackles? Yes. HE WAS A GODDAMNED ROOKIE!!!!!!! WE all saw him click in December and NOW the "expert" bandwagon has all kinds of advice for him. Gone are the "bust" threads and posts and the "Bill can't draft!" screeds by the usual suspects.

Collins ran a 4.59 pre-combine 40...he ran a 4.64 at the combine , 2nd fastest for backers. He pressed 225 19 times, astounded everyone with a 41.5 inch vertical and 11 1/2 foot broad jump.At 6'3", 250 lbs with a 34 inch reach, his ceiling is only limited by experience...yet the vomiting vermin wants him adding weight so he'll be more like some other player he's got some weirdo hots for. Why can't some of these "fans" EVER be happy about ANYTHING?

Guess he was not another "wasted pick" after all...

Agree 100%

250 lbs for an LB is fine, especially for one with the athleticism of Collins.
