Pats backroom let down Brady AGAIN

Because plenty of teams have GREAT lines that protect their QB but don't have receivers worth a lick that can get open and catch the football.

Honestly even with the potentially improved 0-line if Amendola doesn't step up, Edelman doesn't keep up that pace and those rookies don't make a jump to go along with Gronk having to be there for it work then you are going to see the same thing as last year.

Thank you for not chugging down the homeboy kool aid.

But even if they get O-Line help what the F does that matter if his receiver can't catch a cold? I'm sorry you have to be blind to have not seen that joke of a passing offense without Gronk. They didn't even pick up a backup for Gronk!

I think you may be forgetting that the Patriots are building a 90-man roster for training camp. From an offense that went to the AFC Championship game, the Pats lost two free agents: RB Blount and TE Mulligan.

They signed free agents WR Edelman, WR Lafell, TE Hoomanawanui, OL Wendell.

In the draft , they picked up six players on offense out of nine draftees - a fascinating QB, three very good offensive linemen from big-time programs, a nifty pass-catching running back, and a fast slot receiver.

Lost two, added ten.

Undrafted free agents signed since 6:00 p.m. last night include TE Tyler Beck, 6-9 TE Justin Jones, RB Roy Finch and NCSU TE Asa Watson, Ben Watson's little brother. http://nesn.com/2014/05/roy-finch-caj-reynolds-among-patriots-undrafted-free-agent-signings/

Before you scoff at undrafted free agents, remember that Wes Welker was one of those.

I count lost two, added 14 including four TEs, two pass-catching RBs, and three wideouts.

Did they not get the memo? Tom needs help! Forehead over in Denver is throwing to all pros but once again when needing to get receiving help Brady will be asked to throw to UFA rookies like Kenbrell Thompkins for miracle game winning TD's.

They had stud tight ends and abundance of good college receivers sitting there at every pick waiting to be taken but instead decide to take a player that could have been had later on.

They must be expecting some serious year 2 jumps from what they already have and think Amendola is going to REALLY turn into Welker this time because without even knowing if Gronk will be 100% ready to go they did nothing in free agency to help and nothing in the draft either.

So what's the master plan now? Dustin Keller? The dude whose leg bent in half less than a year ago?

What a let down once again, but it's OK right? Tom is Tom and will find a way won't he. Pathetic if you ask me.
I'm still trying to get my head around how the Patriots have failed Tom Brady by adding Brandon LaFell in Free Agency, drafting another Wide Receiver in Gallon and adding a further three Offensive Line talents to the mix. Sure, Tight End need to be improved. Luckily, the Patriots have options available to them.

The Patriots helped Tom Brady by filling the D with talent. Having a Defense that he can depend on and an Offensive Line to keep him upright is all I really wanted from the offseason.

Namecalling: The first refuge of someone without a strong argument.
The argument for the last 10 years has always been to give Brady what he needs to win right now.

Not defend FA choices and draft picks that eventuality back fire and then say " Well get em next year"

I do not have a major problem with the strategy to improve the offensive line; my reservations are with the players selected and when.

• Bryan Stork – we should have drafted Marcus Martin or Travis Swanson instead, Stork had a very poor pro day, and #105 was very early for him in my opinion.
• Jon Halapio – easily the worst pick we made yesterday, I will actually be surprised if he makes the roster, he is slow footed, has poor technique, and major durability concerns.
• Fleming – I like this pick, I thought it was a good value and a player that has upside and can help in multiple positions.

This was not a very good draft in my opinion, I am a homer and I am going to focus on the good which is Easley, Fleming, and Moore but I do think this draft was a disappointment, and if you disagree that is fine but we will all have to wait to find out whose position is most accurate.

LaFell was a good signing, but I would not hang anything on the fact that they drafted a seventh round developmental player who is likely to land on the practice squad if with the team at all.

Halapio and Stork are not premier talents by any stretch of the imagination, and neither is a lock to make the final roster in my opinion.

The Patriots failure was adding JG with #62, that pick was not necessary, in my opinion JG will not be the heir apparent to Brady, and will not be a starting QB at the NFL level, we used #62 on a career backup. We could have added a first round talent in a draft this deep at #62 and JG was not a first round talent.

Oh, BTW, that terrible, horrible offense still managed to finish third in the NFL in scoring last year, and that's even when you take out defensive scores.

Bolden is a JAG, White will be an upgrade and Finch has the potential to be an upgrade. Vereen is in a contract year and unfortunately can't stay healthy, that means it's pretty much a necessity to have multiple receiving options at RB.
White is not an upgrade over Bolden. Brandon Bolden has a career average of 4.9 YPC and in two season (22 games) has compiled 700+ yards and 5 touchdowns playing as the fourth string running back on this team. Bolden is a better runner, and receiver than White, and had far more production at the college level.

Roy Finch is less likely to make the roster than Jake Bequette, he is not an upgrade to anything.

I know you want to be happy with this draft but do not exaggerate the capabilities of the players to form that belief, outside of Easley I would not expect any major contributions from any of the players drafted.

Right now??? Who decided that?

That is just as comical as the guys writing the past two days "so-and-so were rated at pick #such and such, so they were good (or bad) value".

Rated by whom?????

Please.....stop....projecting....Your opinion is your opinion. Just as mine is mine. Neither are universal truths.

How do you add "first round talent" with pick #62??

.....and they will sign Dustin Keller after June 1st for cap reasons.

They also have the option to move Lafell and Mark Harrison over to be a "move" TE.

Why would it be sarcasm, who did they get at receiver to help him out after last years joke of a performance?

Well the offseason and draft are an opportunity to see what BB thinks of last years #3 scoring Offense (in spite of injuries and youth at the skill positions).

A couple of things. We can now infer that BB was satisfied that he has the WR's on the roster that the O needs to be successful.

That instead of a pure H back like AH we will use Fells/Harrison in an Hback role. Fells was effective in this role against NE last years, sorta like Welker killing us in Miami before BB signed him.

The biggest issues for the O was TB not being n sync with rookies and new weapons that won't be an issue this year only 1 new player in the mix (Fells) for TB to get in sync with.

I will predict that barring lots of injuries we will be the #1 or 2 O in the league and well equipped to win in the playoffs.

The same thing as last year would be a trip to the AFC championship game. However, if the players on defense are healthy the game will be much more competitive. Just like last year, I am not worried about the offensive side of the ball. Dobson had a great rookie season and IMO will be better this season, Edleman replaced Welker, Gronk is great when healthy, Amendola was hurt most of the season but showed promise, Thompkins and Lafell will be solid coming off the bench and the jury is still out on Boyce. I am surprise BB hasn't added depth at TE but maybe the plan is to sign Keller. We won't need a 2007 type offense to win the Super Bowl this year. Our defense has the potential to be top 3 in the league.

They had these players last offseason, none of the made it past week 4.

Ballard
Fells
Sudfeld
Ford
Landi
Herman

How do you add "first round talent" with pick #62??
It was a very deep draft, in years past many players taken in the second and third round of this draft would have been first round picks in weaker draft classes. If you were not aware of the historical depth of this draft class, I am very surprised.

LaFell was a good signing, but I would not hang anything on the fact that they drafted a seventh round developmental player who is likely to land on the practice squad if with the team at all.

Your post pretty much describes the 2009 description of the current Patriots #1 receiver who caught 105 passes last year.

But, yes, I agree- - I wouldn't hang my hat on it. I also wouldn't discount it.

Let's see how it plays out. The immediate certitude of posters is a waste of time.

Personally, I did not see the need for a wide receiver anyway to be completely honest. Right now the Patriots have 2 of the top 5 slot receivers in the NFL, Dobson who showed very well as a rookie when health, and LaFell who has had three good seasons in a row on a run first team in Carolina. I am not concerned with the wide receiver position. I am concerned with the tight end position and would have liked them to pick a tight end I do not think you can just lose a player that you valued at $40M, and not make any type of effort to replace him.

Like I said several times, I love the Easley pick, and I am also high on Fleming and Moore, the rest of the picks left a lot to be desired for me any way. I think Halapio was a terrible pick, and Stork was about 100 picks to early, and although I like JG as a player I disliked the pick for this team.

I am with you though we will see how it plays out, at the end of the day it really does not matter, if we are healthy with the addition of Revis, Browner, LaFell, and Smith we are SB contenders even if not one of these players does a thing.
