Whats people's thoughts on Tre Mason @ 62? He's a typical work horse back, love his running style.
I think thats decent value, mainly because we have no idea whats gunna happen with Ridley after this year. BB doesn't really "pay" running backs so I could see another team overpaying for Stevan.

I think with an NFL QB rather than an option QB Mason could be a heck of a dual threat starting RB, something we've never really had.

I'd prefer him at 93, but he's on my short list for 62.

I agree with both of you. I really like Johnson as one of the most flexible OLs in the draft -- the only player I can recall seeing listed under C on some draft boards and OT on others! I think he's a perfect backup/utility lineman, but too tall for a starting center. Urschel, meanwhile, has never played center but to me is born for the position and I wouldn't want to play him anywhere else.

One I don't want is Marcus Martin, he strikes me as the kind of player who is labeled "all raw potential" simply because he's erratic.
Bryan Stork is an interesting prospect for the seventh round, he really fell down draft boards but he has strong technique, good size, solid strength, and solid athleticism.

I would not be surprised if the team thought highly of Braxton Cave, he graded out as a day two pick last year and fell into UDFA.

Hopefully one of the better TE's is available in R2 when the Pats pick. I can't imagine BB goes into the season with an injury prone Gronk and Hooman as his backup. After TE, grab whatever players are needed to fill in the backup spots at RB, LB and on the OL.

How about Joyner starting across McCourty at pick 62?

With the emphasis on an attacking defense, Joyner makes a lot of sense. Only the Honey Badger was a more aggressive DB in recent drafts.

I do not see any reason to draft a RB prior to day 3 personally, it is not that big of a need, we had the ninth ranked rushing attack in 2012 with Ridley and Bolden, having Blount was a luxury and a great one but not something we have to draft an early player to replace. Remember Blount himself was an UDFA that we gave up a seventh round pick and a track runner to get.

Here is my take for the next 2 Rounds. If Tom Savage is available at 62, Patriots will take him. I am hoping for either Troy Niklas at the end of round 2 or CJ Fiedorowicz in Round 3.

According to Mike Reiss his "latest info from a good source" says the Patriots have no interest in CJF or Niklas. Take it FWIW.

Stated it in yesterdays Draft chat.

Then I wonder which TE they are targeting?

I find that hard to believe. They worked out CJF twice.

Draft OFFENSE for Christ Sake, we have question marks in every offensive position apart from QB.

The defense is way better than last year, we need TE, RB, line, god damn it.

They better sell the house and find a way to get another pick in the 2nd round and draft a TE because we have none.

I don't remember seeing that report about Niklas and CJF. Would be really interesting if they grab ASJ, but I suspect they will have to move up to get him. As long as we get one of those three and let Amaro go somewhere else I will be happy.

My scenario today..

Patriots trade Mallet & 62 to Houston for 33 & 2015 3rd conditional to a 1st.

Mallet signs a 3 year 15m deal 8m guaranteed

Patriots

33 Tom Savage QB Pittsburgh
93 Brandon Coleman WR Rutgers

That's a well thought-out trade, but I'm honestly curious: what is it everybody sees in Coleman? He's huge but neither athletic nor powerful, and wasn't super-productive in college. I can't picture him getting any separation against NFL db's.

I somewhat disagree, I think it is going to be different than the previous two TE offense if they rebuild it. I think the Patriots would prefer to have a true Y-TE like Niklas or CJF. This would put Gronkowski at the Flex-TE and will allow them to use him as an offensive playmaker all over the field. When we had Hernandez his limitations as a blocker forced Gronkowski to play the Y-TE and often times that led to Gronkowski being held back to block. Drafting a player like CJF gives you an elite blocking TE capable of catching the football, you will not get the same level of production in the passing game as Hernandez offered but you can optimize the production you get from Gronkowski.

Niklas and Fiedorowicz are just guys. Sefarian-Jenkins or Amaro (who are complete opposites) may be worth a selection if they're available at the end of the round but in a good TE draft guys like Niklas and Fiedorowicz would be mid-round picks. They don't mitigate losing Gronk at all because they're massive dropoffs from Gronk.

I don't see the Patriots picking one of them (or even ASJ/Amaro) over a potential starter on the interior offensive line, for instance.

He's good, but maybe with our comp in the 4th, not the 3rd.

Exum in the 5th or later would be solid value as well.

I was the first in on Exum so you don't need to sell me on him. But I think Joyner is a better fir for what our defense needs right now. Think Arrington, think Honey badger. Can play all over the secondary, great against the run. I even think Joyner led FSU in sacks this year. Very versatile player. I doubt it happens, but the Pats did take a long look at Mathieu last year so not impossible.

But i'm fine with Exum on day three.

For those of you who wanted the Pats to take Marqise Lee in the first and were upset that the Pats took Easley because of his knees, this one is for you:

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports USC WR Marqise Lee slipped out of the first round due to "red flags on his injured knee."

Lee played through a recurring knee injury last season for the Trojans, seeing his stock fall by the wayside after many projected him as a future top-ten or even top-five overall pick. Per Pauline, there were "whispers" Lee's condition was "worse than USC was letting on." Pauline concedes Lee should be drafted "quickly" on day two. The Browns at No. 35 look like a prime landing spot.

Then I wonder which TE they are targeting?

Beats me. Im a big big big ASJ fan myself but unless he really falls I dont see a way we jump up to get him.

Im only going off of what Mike Reiss said

Wasnt a report it was his response to a question asked to him while he was at Gillette. Im at work now so cant link to it directly. But if you go to his ESPN blog and look at yesterdays chat its in their about his new information leads him to believe they are not interested in either.

I dont know what he found out when he got to Gillette but it was something.
