He's Been Spotted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume this means he's full go going forward with no expected issues, although it doesn't actually say that. A full go Armstead is definitely somewhat of a game changer in terms of DL depth.

hopefully he is able to play this season. Adding him is like getting a free 1st or 2nd round draft pick this year.

Wait a second..................

The Herald photo is captioned that it was taken yesterday at "Patriots rookie minicamp".

What Patriots rookie minicamp??????????? Did I miss this year's draft already????????

I guess the same awesome Herald editors that gave Fatso Tomase the green light in 2008 have been "hard at work" again.

Agreed. Even if he just ends up being a 3rd down interior rush specialist, it would be a huge boon.

Just that would be huge but one of the Pats tweeters (is that the right word for someone who tweets ?) said a while ago how very impressive he was in the spring last year. I mean really impressive. I think it was Loyko but I can't say for sure.

Armstead is a giant wildcard in projecting the draft this year. If the team is penciling him in as a contributor, that changes the look of the DL depth considerably.

Some other wildcards, IMO:

- Would they be comfortable moving Dan Connolly back to center?

- Do they see Michael Buchanan as a reliable 3rd DE?

Is that Josh McDaniels in the background?

Mark Harrison too.

Also if they see Siliga as a legit NT or a flash in the pan. There's no doubt he played well the last 1/4 or so of the season.

If he's for real and Armstead is ready then those two plus Kelly and Chris Jones (who I assume they like in a limited pass rushing role) almost fills up the DT spot with maybe a mid round pick to compete with Vellano for the last spot.

Although I will say that Hageman to go with Armstead in the middle with Siliga and Jones as role players/backups make we want to make funny noises. We would still really need a strong DE to add to the mix though.

Wait? Is there a scouting report that states that he is that impactful? I know he was good in the CFL but thats a far cry from the AFC East? Just curious not argumentative.

Thanks

Who knows what his true ceiling is? His success in College and the CFL is so far behind him right now and the NFL is obviously a different beast.

Its a nice project to have for the upcoming year but I am not sure you can really pencil him in for much of anything. While his ceiling may be higher I would compare it more to a mid round rookie where we hope he can be contributer (back up DT) with a little devlopement. Again his ceiling may be higher but as far as what you can rely on, I wouldnt rely on more than depth.

I would say one minor thing he has going for him is that he has been around for a year and will have a full offseason so his learning curve should not be huge.

Maybe BB thinks higher and as always I would trust his judgement and what we do at DT could be an indication of what he thinks.

Reports last year before his infection stated he was blowing up the OL.

Other than the Patriots, the AFC East IS the CFL.

To be fair, Mentos mixed with soda could blow up our 2013 interior OL.

Good news. I am still expecting nothing out of him until proven otherwise but I like his potential. Assuming we add a quality DT in the draft we will be mostly set with rookie?/Kelly/Jones/Siliga. If Armstead can help all the better.
