Cato June signs with Bucs

Addai was the replacement for James. Rhodes was already on the team.

Also, I'd like to point out that the Colts used Rhodes primarily as a 2nd half threat and Addai as a 1st half threat.

Now, Addai has to carry the load and there isn't anyone of note behind him.

arggh my head is going to explode. you guys are too caught up in who replaced who. the point is that they have a very capable RB playing for reasonable money, despite the loss of Rhodes. they can draft a RB in the 3rd or 4th round to be a capable backup.

Who is their replacement for Rhodes? Addai was the replacement for James.

While Stokely barely played last year, he still gave the Colts a legit #3 WR threat.

Valid points. I look for a RB to be grabbed in the 3rd or 4th round like Darius Walker. That should be sufficient to replace Rhodes.

I could see Stokley coming back if teams are smart enough to avoid him. The guy can't stay healthy, so a team would be stupid IMO to give him any significant guarenteed money. Or I could see a cheap slot WR added in free agency or the draft. Stokley was hurt so much with the Colts anyway, not just last year but other times as well.

The Colts are in cap hell.

lol, that's a big statement to make with nothing to back it up. I will lean on Miguel as to the Colts' cap situation, but IMO it is just very tight, as it has been for the last 5 years or so. Nothing different here than before.

All the Colts really need to do is keep Sanders and that defense will still be pretty tough. I'm not going to kid myself and say that the Colts are in decline when they really didn't lose anybody huge. Besides, remember in the regular season when the Colts were without Bob Sanders? Remember in the postseason when they had him? BIG difference. Dwight Freeney really doesn't make too much of a difference. Sanders is the heart and soul of that D.

as I already said, it could be a concern. but isn't it hypocritical for noone to be concerned with Maroney carrying all the load, without any great backup behind him? I mean Maroney was banged up last year.

Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk are just guys to hand off to, nothing really great.

You guys are severely overrating June, there was a reason no teams wanted to sign him besides about 2, he isn't that good. The biggest loss IMO is the loss of Rhodes who was actually running much better than Addai was all through the playoffs, they will miss him.

whos their replacement for Rhodes?

June is good in coverage but he cant tackle for ****

I guess that's why he led the team in tackles last year with 142, because he can't tackle.

I'd also assume they have a plan. Miguel, what's your take on these cuts?

On March 23, 2006 I wrote about the Colts -

"IMO, it is far too soon to judge how a team manages the 2006 cap when there are 6 months left before the regular season starts"

I think that it remains true in 2007.

That being said, I personally would not focus on whom the Colts lost but who remains on the Colts. After all, each team in the NFL is going to experience a roster turnover of about 10 players. Some players have to leave a team in order for a team to have room for its rookies.

If I were a Colts fan, I would be encouraged by this forum's take on the 2007 Colts. After all, this forum in March 2006 was pretty much wrong on the 2006 Colts.;)

They barely won this last season WITH June, Harper, Rhodes, etc., so what makes anyone thiink that they will be more/equally competitive next year? Confidence?

Everyone is going headhunting and Indy is the head. They have limited money and low draft picks. Baltimore and the Pats are moving up, Indy dropping and Broncos doing their part. Hard to think of Indy as anything more than the 5 best team in the AFC.

And why do you seem pleased about it?

Indy was the 3rd or 4th best team last year, this year I expect them to be about the same. it's really close between a few team.

Because most of what I wrote about the Colts in March, 2006 was proven to be correct.

I like being right, especially after taking cheap shots on my Patriots fandom over the past few years.

So you're happy the Colts proved us wrong and you right by winning the SB?

EDIT: It's ok if you are. It's possible to like two teams. I'm just wondering if you have a soft spot for them because that's how it comes across on here.

this hurts, but the Colts decline is overrated.

Stokley barely played last year, Harper was banged up and isn't great anymore, and they already have their replacement for Rhodes.

but this is a legit loss I think.

who's there replacement for rhodes??....dede dorsey??

rob morris is now forced to start at old unless they get someone else.

indy has done nothing but get worse this offseason and dont have much room to get better unless they have an incredible draft.

They've lost some depth,at the very least. If Sanders goes down again they're in trouble (or at least at this point). They're plotting for the draft, probably defense...just like we probably are:cool: Go figure. We have a mini-me?

Rhodes' replacement will be found in the draft. Look, Rhodes sucked in the regular season for Indy when they had him in the starting lineup. They found his spot in the playoffs as a change-of-pace runner. I don't think it's two hard to find a #2 running back in the draft.

Morris looks like he'll be the starting SLB right now, just as he was in the playoffs. We'll see what happens there.

In March, 2006 I did not predict that the Colts would win the Super Bowl. I opined that the cap space devoted to Manning, Wayne, Harrison, and Adam would not prevent them from winning the Super Bowl.

I post about the cap to spread the knowledge I know about the cap to my fellow Patriots fans. I know AND ACCEPT that sometimes that knowledge is not popular.

What should I have done in March, 2006 when I believed that the Colts were capable of winning the Super Bowl?? Should I have remained silent??

Dungy can always seem to replace LB like their nothing. Think about it, Cato June was a 6th rounder, Gary Bracket went undrafted. Dungy also brought in Shelton Quarles in the leauge. They not be great but as long as he can get them to cover or blitz they will be fine.

The colts d /running game hinges on rookies they pick up in the draft, to be trully effective? Ill take it!!!!!!!!!!!!
