Vince Wilfork asks to be released

Jets fans trying to make themselves feel better about Revis by convincing themselves he's destroyed our locker room and driven Wilfork away lol

That's Revis for you. Somehow he's destroyed the locker room without ever stepping foot in the locker room.

It has to make sense, because the alternative is that Jets fans are the dumbest collection of delusional ***** on the planet.

If Vince really thought he is still worth 8 mil a year and wants us to respect his wishes, then why not ask for a TRADE to a team he finds to his liking? Either way we eat the 3.6, so why not show the team the respect of getting something back for him in the form of a draft pick?

I call this request selfish and juvenile on his part. I'm mad, I'll show you? Really? If he thinks he's worth what his salary is, then someone would at least pony up a late pick for him. Now other teams know the situation is untenable and he has backed the FO into a corner as well as himself.

If we release him and he can't get an offer for what he thinks he's worth than he has no-one to blame but himself. Sorry Vince, your wrong on this one. Stamping your feet immaturely won't do anything but bring your market value down and pidgeon-hole you as a 1 year rental. Good luck with a multi-year offer. I doubt it.

Wilfork knows he's not getting 7.5m. So Wilfork knows he's getting cut eventually. He didn't like the Patriots offer (whatever it was); so he's asking them to release him now -- so that he can get some offers; rather than waiting till training camp -- when the number of interested teams will dry up.

I see nothing wrong with asking for that; and it doesn't harm the team in giving it to him if negotiations have indeed broke down.

BTW, players who know the team won't pay their salary don't have to ask for a trade. The team will have already explored the feasibility of that. Also it's quiet possible that had Wilfork not been hurt last year, the Pats would still not be willing to pay him 7.5, and that no team would be willing to trade for that, but would be willing to sign him at 7.5 on the free agent market; since a trade would be giving up more than just the 7.5

there is NO WAY that any team trades for Wilfork. They know he's either restructuring or being cut.

Making it public probably just cost him some $$$$.

Hitman Harris is my favorite Jets fan ever. Can we trade for him?
Who is willing to go?

Sad to see him go. A true Patriot and one of my favorite people on the team. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up (save the Broncos or Jets).

The silver lining here is that his departure opens up some funds to use in other areas, and there are PLENTY of positions that could use added talent. His play will be missed, but his impact can be made up for by adding two or three more pieces with that money.

Hitman Harris actually comes across as mentally ill to me.

That's the point. You think he just upped his value? If he didn't like ours, he's gonna be really insulted soon enough.

Sad, but ultimately okay.

Vince had a couple of years max left, so seeing him go now isnt as huge as it would have been had he left last year.

Plus we saw that we can survive without him. 7.5 million towards someone to line up next to silinga

Best of luck to Vince. I don't think he was worth the money at this point.

Bring Justin Tuck

Tuck Rules

Tuck just signed with Oakland..

Countdown the hours until the Broncos sign Wilfork for 10 years 100 mill.

I don't think the Patriots will release him ... unless there's a player of similar ability or close ability out there that they can get for 4 or 5 million.

the Patriots would be willing to have 15 million in dead cap space this year?

I doubt it.

I think Hitman Harris may be the illegitimate love child of Ray Ray and SG3. He is really comical.

I love Jets fans in general. Every Patriots player sucks short of Brady until they get cut, trade, retire, or leaves in free agency. Then they are huge losses that the Pats will never be able to replace.

Just went to the Raiders.

Speaking of the Raiders, I like the underrated Pat Sims. He's not Vince but he's versatile, big and probably easy on the cap.

talk about deflating a balloon. Forget the cap charge...I don't see anyone available who can replace him. Yeah, he's coming off an injury and is on the wrong side of 30 but still, what he brings is a hard commodity to find. The Pats need better DTs and this severely weakens an already weak position. D-line more important than WR right now.

Went to the AFC Championship game w/o him and with a healthy Talib/Mayo/Gronk probably would have won. Just saying...

Maybe a silly question.

Can Wilfork restructure to remove any dead money with the understanding he will THEN be released?

(Such as putting in a 25 million dollar roster bonus for TC.)

To be clear, you would pay Wilfork $8M for his 2014 services.

That's nuts!

The only question is how long the patriots will wait to cut Wilfork.

huh? Cutting him frees up $7.5m. His dead hit is $3.6m

How much does it cost to replace him with 1 or 2 players?

If it's close to 8 million than you keep him.
