Vince Wilfork asks to be released

Certainly a dominant force on the field and a class act off of it.....nothing more you could ask from a Professional athlete.

Best of Luck Big Man.

So disappointed. Why didn't he want to take a pay cut. I heard he was such a team leader and he pulls this. Whatever. More money for us to spend. No one player is bigger than the patriots.

Was waiting for this day. He obviously did not want to do what NE asked him to. I was listening to WEEI on my way to work this morning an LaCanfora was on and he said he can't see a good market for Wilfork if he's released. Where do people suppose he ends up?

Buffalo will sign him. Pepper is coaching there now and they have the money.

Go out and sign Browner, Allen, and Steve Smith now.

#Patriots Pro Bowl DT Vince Wilfork has asked that the team release him after 10 seasons in New England, according to sources.

Ive got to go with the obvious. Pride.

Maybe it has nothing to do with Revis but I can see that he could feel insulted that Revis has come in making more money.. add that to his years being on the team and now (probably) being pushed hard to restructure and how could hisa pride not be mixed up in this?

I love Wilfork.. but CB was the bigger need for the team.

I dont want to, but I can live with this... if he's making this decision with a cool head.

Good luck Vince. But none of us should be surprised on the pats releasing him.

Hate to see him go. I really love big Vince, but I have been concerned about him being able to rebound from his surgery at his age. Better now than later. Still some good DTs on the market.

Go after Hatcher or Melton in his place. You might be able to sign both at the $7.5 cap savings.

Anywhere but Denver or in the division

Wow, i am shocked. They will honor the request imo and they will have a big hole to fill in the middle of that defense. Really sad to see him go, one of my favorite player's of all time.

Like everything else we will just move on but it still sucks to see his career in New england end this way. He should go to the HOF and he should be first ballot for the Patriots Hall.

This offseason is really off to a wild start.

Pretty disappointed in him if you ask me. Sure football players have every reason in the world to chase the money, but if a guy like Brady the most important player on the team restructures his contract to a friendly team deal why can't Wilfork do it as well? Considering this after having an Achilles injury for a big guy. Then again Tom has the luxury of having a wife who is one of the richest women in the world , but either way this disappoints me it also saddens me you'll be missed Vince as long as you don't go to the Broncos.

Well this is disappointing but best of luck to Big Vince wherever he goes. He was a great guy here on and off the field.

Very disappointing, but understandable.

I guess this is better than acrimony and dragging things out.

I wonder if the Jests will go after him just to spite the Pats over Revis? Elway doesn't have any extra cap cash to spend after overpaying for Talib, so at least he won't end up there.

Good luck to a great player and Patriot!

Well our D is now garbage according to jets fans :rocker:

That is just too bad. Hate to see this happen to a class act.

It appears that Wilfork was obviously not open to restructuring his contract and fully expected the Pats to cut him.

$7.5mm salary.
That's about what would be saved.
Cap hit of about $3.6mm deal money of unamortized bonus.
There's some workout and weight bonuses - not sure those would be earned in a release.
