Boy, does this explain a few things about our fanbase or what

"Marketing professors Michael Lewis and Manish Tripathi devised an algorithm and analyzed data to try to figure out how various fan bases deal with losses, and their study found that fans of the Raiders, Steelers and Patriots do not cope well.
The Patriots ranked third on both the list of unstable fan bases and saddest fan bases after a loss. They did not make the happiest fan base list, which was led by the Saints (92.1 percent positive tweets after a win), Browns, Raiders, Seahawks and Bears."

The Jets cope better? Like they've had so much positive to fall back on?

Yeah, I'll buy that.

I wonder how much of this study relies on reactions following SB 42. That probably tipped the scales a bit.

Is this such a bad thing? Hell, I'll admit to "instability" and "sadness." I was pacing the room and screaming cuss words at the television yesterday, beginning with Gostkowski's kickoff out of bounds. And I was quite sad afterward. At least we know what's at stake unlike fans of New Jersey, etc. :bricks:

I can't play a social game of billiards without wanting to crush my opponent so this isn't news to me on a personal level. Perhaps it's why I relate so well to Bostonians half a world away.

The raiders were the saddest and the happiest... Most bipolarist

come on people. Lets not stop until we're no. 1.

I believe it, I'm part of it and I'm proud as hell.

Yup. Popcorn psychology done by "marketing professors". :D

Love the part where these geniuses have the Raiders fans as both the happiest and saddest.

Methinks their report was written in crayon.

To be fair, The Patriot have probably gained quite a number of "fans" since 2001 and those fans haven't had too many losses to develop their proper coping skills. Now those of us who have been around before Kraft owned the team, are well equipped to deal with those feelings (well most of us).

makes sense we're not even near the top of happiest. there is incessant *****ing after a win in these forums alone, I can only assume it's a million times worse on Twitter.

if you expect to lose, then the loss doesn't hurt much. This ranking is not a bad thing-- we expect excellence.

Spoiled? Maybe.

But dreaming big is a wonderful state of mind that has the downside of tearing you up a little more inside when it doesn't pan out.

Great Googly Moogly, I've been PROFILED!!!! :D

"FAN" is short for FANatics. I'm PROUD to be a Pat's FAN.

LOL, who created this survey, Bills fans? They're just jealous!!

Also LOL @ Browns fans being near the top of the happiest fan base list. It's CLEVELAND ffs.

So regarding that clipping (I won't click this quack "marketing" article):

X out the Raiders fanbase (which is on BOTH lists!):

The 2 team fanbases listed as the most "unstable" have experienced 8 SB trips and 5 SB wins during this century.

The 4 team fansbases listed as "happiest" have experienced 2 SB trips and 1 SB win during the same timeframe. The one win coming from a city that was happy to be afloat after almost being completely destroyed by a natural disaster.

Oh yeah, I'm sure the genius marketers see absolutely no correlation!@ :D

Perhaps Messrs Michael Lewis and Manish Tripathi will someday be informed how parents of highly achieving children are far more critical of their kids academic performance while parents of lower academic achieving children are just fine with their kids and simply blame the teachers/system..........(or that the smart kids are "cheaters" ;) )

Why is this surprising or even considered a bad thing?

We we don't lose very often, we have more pressure on us than any team every year, every other fanbase hates us, we're hugely aware of the impermanence of Tom Brady's career and the window we have for championship football, etc. etc.

As Brady likes to say "tall trees experience high winds." Yeah, no **** I wouldn't get so upset about losses if I were a Jets or Browns fan, because I was expecting it. But in New England, we follow our coach in assuming we'll compete for every game. And so when we lose, it disappoints, and it sucks.

"Heavy hangs the head that wears the crown."
