Just when the door was shutting after Gronk injury, Peyton opened it

Sooo many excuses coming out of Denver, Peyton claims they were tired because of the thursday game and that they ran too many plays vs the titans. Mike and Mike *****ing about the cleveland game like denver is beating cheated out of 1st. What about the jets and panthers game *******s? Pats would be running away with HFA if not for those. Whenever Peyton wins games on pass interference calls there's not a peep. To this day nobody talks about the AFCCG he won on crappy calls but Pats fans.

Manning only has himself to blame for running too many plays...the guy threw 59 times against the titans throwing it on 4th and 1 up several scores. Yet all we heard about was the greatness of manning.

If Bradydid tthat the media would be all over them for running up the score

Re: Fun Facts

Obviously the fault of Denver's defense.

The sun was in Seyton's eyes.

He has an idiot O-Line

He had a flat tire.

He didn't have enough money for cab fare.

His tux didn't come back from the cleaners.

An old friend came in from out of town.

Someone stole his car.

There was an earthquake.

A terrible flood.

Locusts!

IT WASN'T HIS FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

I'd love to see them lose a game throwing a pick at the one yard line. Manning must be the all time leader in touchdown passes inside the 5. Anyone have stats on that for Brady and Manning?

Let's not celebrate too hard just yet. The Patriots control their own destiny, and that's definitely a good thing. But they also have two tough contests on the horizon with a division opponent in Miami and a Baltimore team that we're so familiar with, they might as well be a division opponent. They're also doing it with an offense sans-Gronk that wasn't exactly setting the world on fire before he came back. By contrast, Denver has two cake games coming up (unless Houston can somehow pull off the upset). If the Pats get past the Dolphins and Ravens, I will be celebrating. Until then, I'm apprehensive.

I do agree, however, that there seems to be an aura about this team. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's there. Lady Luck has screwed us on the injury front this season, but she's been there when the games have mattered the most. The punt that touched the player vs. Denver, the onside kick vs. Cleveland, the penalty against Miami. The defense, while they're not exactly playing steadily all four quarters, has also come up with a handful of stops when it's mattered the most. They held off Manning in OT and kept the Browns out of field goal range last week. The result is that the team is winning close games that they weren't pulling out in 2010-2012. It's going to be tough come playoff time, but they have the GOAT under center and one of the greatest coaches of all time on the sidelines.

In looking at the playoffs, I think Cincy is going to be "that team". They're going to be the ones that come out of the Wild Card round (if everything stays the same) and are a pain in the ass for every team they play until they're eliminated. Dalton isn't ideally what you would want at quarterback, but he's got weapons and a defense that is capable of giving him opportunity after opportunity to put points on the board in spite of whatever mistake he makes the drive before. They're who I don't want to play because, across the board, they're probably the toughest match-up we can draw in the AFC. In all, though, I'm as happy as anyone with where the team is at, everything considered. But it's not time for the team to rest on their laurels just yet. Beat Miami in Miami and Baltimore in Baltimore, and they can put on the cruise control.

Bronco's have made a big mistake giving Brady and Bill the key to that number 1 seed. 3 very very winnable games for the Pats and i have no doubt the most CLUTCH quarterback in the league and maybe of all time will deliver 3 wins and a road to NYC through Foxborough.

Thank you Rivers and co.

P.S. Just how huge does that Brady 2 minute masterclass against Cleveland look now?

None of that matters what matters to Peyton is that he threw 2 touchdowns last night and only need to throw 4 more in the next 2 games to get that coveted touchdown record.

You play the win the game? HA!! You play to pad you stats and set meaningless records :der:

In his post-game press conference Manning said, "We made mistakes in all three phases." Who named him head coach? Unbelievable. Never in a million years would Brady say something like that.

He made the biggest mistake of the lot, the D, while bad, held the Chargers to 27 points, Super Man-ning should have at least matched that.

There would be a ton of arguments for any of the teams that had to win out as WC teams on the road way before anyone would listen to our sob story. That said, they very well may notice that this was Belichick's greatest season of coaching under the circumstances, just due to the WR and TE situations alone.

Let's tick off the starters lost shall we -
Both our pro bowl tight ends, one to injury, Gronk, the other in jail.
Our starting pro bowl MLB - Mayo
Our starting pro bowl NT - Wilfork
Our starting pro bowl RT - Vollmer

So we've lost at least 5 starters due to injury and whatnot who are usually pro bowl caliber players when healthy. And we're STILL in position to win the #1 overall seed in the AFC??

This has been a miracle coaching job by BB and one of Brady's finest as a QB. Those comebacks he has pulled off have been miraculous. This Pats team never quits! Why should they, they feel they are always in it!

Let's give credit where credit is due. Peyton didn't open any doors for the Pats, the Chargers opened it for us.

Philip made some great throws last night and their defense stayed discipline against he Broncos offense. Kudos to them.

I'm sorry, wasn't it Peyton who threw the game sealing INT to lose the game, and avert a possible comeback for Denver?

One thing's for sure, Peyton ain't no Brady. You give Brady those types of weapons that the Broncos have and he'd have lit up the sub .500 Chargers.

When the 9-7 SD makes the playoffs they are one of the most dangerous. If they don't then it will be 9-7 BAL, even more dangerous.

I wouldn't write them off, 6th seed if victorious wc week will be our toughest AFC matchup.

This column from earlier in the week gives a pretty good visual of the havoc raised by injuries to the Patriots this season:

Damage report: Looking at the toll injuries have taken on the 2013 New England Patriots | masslive.com

In summary, there are three categories.

Lost For The Season

  • DT Vince Wilfork (placed on IR Oct 3)
  • LB Jerod Mayo (placed on IR Oct 16)
  • T Sebastian Vollmer (placed on IR Oct 29)
  • DT Tommy Kelly (placed on IR Nov 2)
  • TE Rob Gronkowski (placed on IR Dec 9)

Preseason Losses

  • DT Armond Armstead
  • SS Adrian Wilson

Other Notable Injuries

  • RB Shane Vereen
  • WR Danny Amendola
  • OT Marcus Cannon
  • CB Alfonzo Dennard
  • CB Aqib Talib
  • WR Aaron Dobson

Of course there are other smaller injuries as well (Hoomanawanui, Connolly, etc.) that don't even merit a mention due to the sheer number of injuries to other players, nor does it take into account the absence of the prisoner.

Agree 100% with Debbie Downer lol. Realistically though, we could lose to either Miami or Baltimore. The Pats can not pull any of this sleepwalk through the first half bull****. You can't force an offense to come back from 10+ EVERY game. As we saw last night, a desperate 6-7 team beat a good 11-2 team. This is the time of year where teams are fighting for their playoff lives, and both Miami and Baltimore are gonna give the Pats their best. We have trouble with physical teams, and Baltimore has owned us the last few years. There are no guarantees and no cake walks the rest of the way. Gonna take an incredible effort to win the last 3 games.

The thing to remember about the possibility of slipping to the 3 seed is that the Bengals are @Pit(tough division game) vs. Min (give 'em hell Matty Cass) and vs. Balt (another tough division game). I'd be truely surprised if they don't lose at least 1 of those.

Also not an injury related thing but the Pats #1 RB for whatever various reasons has only seen more than 16 carries in a game twice this season. He had 100 yards rushing and scored 2 TD in each of those games.

In the regular season last year he had 12 games of 16 or more carries.

I still think people are overrating these six seed contenders. Baltimore still has no running game and their offense in general sucks. They are missing several things that made them dangerous in the playoffs last year most importantly good o-line play and Anquan Boldin.

The Chargers are too up and down to be that dangerous.

I still think the teams in the playoffs to be the most afraid of are the Bengals unless Marvin Lewis and Andy Dalton come up small again and the Chiefs (their offense is clicking now and if they get back their defense, they could be the most complete team in the AFC).

I think we've got to have 3 things happen in order to win out:

1. Get the running game going--and quickly. This is a must.

2. Have someone step up on offense in the receiving role who hasn't really done that too much this year. Candidates include: Danny Amendola, Josh Boyce, hell...even Devlin, Mulligan, or Hooman to a lesser extent.

3. Have the defense step up at least a notch. The rushing defense took a step in the positive sense on Sunday vs CLE, but the secondary took a step or two backwards in their assignments with Cameron and Gordon. We've got to go back to allowing an average of 20 points or so to have any kind of shot from here on out. They can get through a tough game or two with needing to score 30+ the rest of the way, but if we're going to depend on needing to score 30+ to win SIX straight games, we will be in trouble.

When that Ray Rice checkdown against the chargers happened last year and then Ray Lewis coming back at the perfect time it was just destiny that the Ravens were going to win it all.

Something about this Pats team feels right, despite losing the best TE in the game there is a special feeling for me.

After each injury I kept telling my brother, just don't bet against them. I don't live in New England, and I mention the Patriots comebacks on Monday and each person's response is the same, "Brady". They currently have home field advantage, and if they go to the Superbowl, it might be cold and windy. WOW, I like those odds.

SD is obviously inconsistent, but I personally wouldn't want to face them coming off a nice late season streak. Their defense is capable enough as we saw last night, and they can run and pass all over our defense just as well if not better, than even possibly CIN, IND, BAL, and arguably KC--who I believe is still quite overrated.

I agree with what you said about BAL. They aren't the same team as last year on offense, but their defense is probably better. Goes to show you what all of the so-called experts thought about their off-season moves setting records for most players lost, and how they wouldn't even be a contender this year. They finished 9-7 last year, so I'm not seeing much difference aside from losing their top offensive receiving threat in Boldin. It looks like Ozzie did actually know what he was doing more than many gave credit for. They won't win the SB again, but they didn't exactly tank as was predicted either.

MIA would be a familiar divisional foe, who may be our best matchup out of the three, but let's see if we feel the same come Sunday at 4:30 first before we root for them, and if we win down there the point will likely be moot anyway.
