Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

Yet, here we are at 10-3 and ready to lock up the AFC east next week.

Not only that.. they are one fortunate week from home field advantage and are holding down the second bye as of now. Incredible year. Even if this team turns into a pumpkin soon, I believe they deserve a ton of credit for fighting through all the injuries.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

The owners DO love Goody..and that is why he is so blatantly manipulating the league like Vince McMahon's greatest pupil. It's a modern day "treasure bath!" ....

and of course...it's Goody to be the king...

"we need Gronk to be healthy"

Get me some more TEs.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

It was a textbook tackle for a guy going up against a larger, stronger opponent. You don't try to wrap up someone like Gronk because he'll drag you 10 yards. You aim to take out their legs.

He didn't deliberately target the knee. At those speeds, he was just trying to get in front of Gronk and make him lose his footing. It wasn't dirty, despite some in here who constantly have the need to feel the Patriots are persecuted by the refs, the commissioner, the league, other players, etc.

Man, you obviously never played football, or you don't know the difference between the thigh and the knee. As I stated in another thread, the art of tackling is completely lost, has been since the late 1990's. It's like players think they can only tackle high or low. Tackle high gets you on ESPN's top 10 highlight list. Perform a TEXTBOOK tackle and you'll never get on TV. The way you discuss the tackle on Gronk as textbook, shows you've never played football or you weren't taught correctly. A TEXTBOOK tackle is when you use your shoulders and WRAP your arms around the waist or legs. You bend your legs and thrust forward. Your head is always up.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

Like it or not Gronk is just of those players who always get injured. It's shame but it is what it is.:(

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

it's clear the team needs to draft a new tight end(s). we can't go through this every year where the team relies heavily on gronk only to see him get injured and the season goes in the tank. get me someone with 75% Gronk's ability who doesn't get injured and I'll be happy.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

I felt so sick when he went down. I don't know what Gronk did to earn so much ill will from the football gods. Sigh...

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

It's not a dirty hit, it is what the league wants players to do. Can't blame Ward for it at all. A few years ago he would have gone higher and tried to jar the ball loose, but now you have to do that. It is what it is

all ward was trying to do was trip him up - it's way easier to to do that then actually try to tackle a man of gronk's size. it's the same thing LBs are taught to do to brandon jacobs - take him down by his legs.

But if that guy gets hit by TJ Ward you'll be unhappy.

Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

In the long term, 'just' an ACL is about the best you can hope for. In a weird way, it could almost help him years down the line if it gives him more time without contact to get his back and arm right. ACL tears aren't a huge deal anymore. Just get a top of the line surgeon to do it (I'm assuming james Andrews, given his involvement with gronk's medical clearance this year). It absolutely sucks this year, but an ACL tear isn't something that makes me worry about his career being significantly altered, let alone ended.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

I didn't say you weren't objective. You usually are. What you were, in this case, is wrong. DB's have hit bigger TE's like this since the first kickoff of the first football game ever played. If you don't, the TE is going for another chunk of yardage in the open and the DB is getting reamed out by his coach on the sideline. Further, league legislation entails that defenders can no longer go high on receivers without drawing a flag. If they can't hit them low either then you might as well throw flags around the receivers waists because it's no longer tackle football.
No, I wasn't. Ward launched himself at Gronkowski and he launched himself low. Your GIF openly demonstrates that. There's nothing in the league rules that says you have to go low. Players are choosing to go low. There's a perfectly legitimate target between the shoulders and hips to aim at, which is where you should be aiming if you're tackling properly.

To keep this civil, that's not a knock on Ward but a knock on the NFL, Patriots players included.

Definitely, I assumed we would draft one even before gronk was hurt

They go low because they are fined and penalized when they go high. Had he gone for the hips Gronk would have bent at the waist to brace, causing an inadvertent helmet to helmet causing a penalty. That is why coaches in the NFL now teach to go low. The NFL is teaching the wrong way to tackle because they've been litigated into thinking that above the waist hits could lead to suicide like Seau. The NFL is voluntary, as is suicide but we live in a world where when bad things happen- its the fault of the richest guy around. In the case of concussions, the people that volunteer to play a violent sport for absurd money blame the guys that didn't make them volunteer.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

whaddya mean "one"...BB will probably draft four up and down the pick roster...or elses sign every free agent TE that appears on the FA list

Why? We had the murderer, Ballard recovering, Hooman, and fells. Then we would have had gronk later on. Their was no need for another TE. Then it all started. Gronk had an infection. The murderer showed his true colors. Fells got injured. Ballard wasn't progressing. We then had just Hooman and dudfeld. It turned in a matter of weeks and after the draft.

That's crazy. Did you see the slow mo gif? I don't think there's too many people who could take that hit and walk away.

It is remarkable that from June to December the Patriots have gone from having the best Tight End situation in the NFL (by some distance) to arguably the worst Tight End situation. For a team that relied on 2TE sets, to be 10-3 struggling through injuries and the loss of key personnel, to me, that is astonishing.

I know people don't like talking about him (not a huge deal for me) but just imagine if we had Hernandez still. Damn. What an absolute idiot.
