Patriots CUTS

Bequette has looked invisible since he got here in spring of 2012.

And he may still be cut. But because he was inactive for most of last year's games, we really didn't have too much of a chance to watch him now did we.

So far my 53 is intact except for Mesko and Forston. We've gotta be combing the waiver wire for DT help. Paging the Giants, Packers and Browns...

There were some very talented interior guys on the Giants that played well Thursday night that will probably get cut. Could be very ideal to pick up one of their guys considering we got to see them play up close.

I think he will too, if I'm not mistaken, anyone who picks him up has to place him on their final 53 - that's a big jump for someone still raw and unproven.

You are not mistaken. :) Teams cannot claim players off waivers to the PS, since, by definition, claiming off waivers means claiming the player's current contract.

Sudfeld, Thompkins and...who am I missing?

Two seventh rounders from this year still there, too, in Buchanon and Beauharnis.

Based on the cuts being made, four UDFAs will make the roster (Thompkins, Allen, Sudfeld, and Vellano). Three of them look to be starters at their position (if you count Allen at punter). Has this ever happened on any team?

Part of the reason Mesko was cut is that his agent was also Wes
Welker's agent. Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick have long memories.

It doesn't hurt that Allen was the Ray Guy award winner the past
two years and is both a good long distance and directional punter.

There are four UDFA making the roster. Thompkins, Allen, Sudfeld, and Vellano. I don't know if it is a record though.

I'm sure it's happened several times. Probably not on a potential Super Bowl contender, though.

Just read that hooman agreed to a paycut. Likely had to do it to remain on the roster.

Don't forget punter Ryan Allen.

I have to believe we have some imminent signings coming, especially at DT.

With Forston cut, there's no way we don't sign at least one DT to fill out the 53. I don't see a way they only keep 3 natural DT's, especially when you're running a 4-3.

Buchanan was my draft binky. I think he's definitely the closest to an Anderson-style pass rush specialist (with some potential to develop into more). He has far and away the best burst off the line of any Pats DE not named Chandler Jones.

Benard, Bequette and Cunningham were competing to back up Ninkovich, IMO, while Francis is the best for inside/outside flexibility.

I guess Bequette was told not to display that burst so other teams wouldn't have tape on him.

Justin Francis gone. Our D-line is incredibly thin.
