How do the sox beat out the pats in vanity plates?

Not that I understand it but there are way more baseball fans around these parts then football.

No. Surveys have indicated otherwise.

Personally I find watching baseball to be about as fun as watching paint dry.

Actually, it's a close second to watching grass grow.

I went though the pain of reading the article. At no point does it say that the "sox beat out the pats".

The key I think is the Jimmy Fund donation which is a very popular charity in the boston area.

I do think the "sox beat out the pats" in pink hats sold.

If I remember correctly, Kraft puts a low limit of the number of Patriots plates that are issued (which may have changed). I think they wanted them to be special and not just let everyone buy them. If my memory served me correct, the first year they started to make them the Pats limited the number available to 1,000.

Also, the Red Sox teamed with the Jimmy Fund which means that not only do the Red Sox advertise Red Sox vanity plates, but so does the Jummy Fund. The Patriots give the proceeds to their own charitable fund.

Lastly, the Red Sox started vanity plates in 2003. I think the Pats didn't start start until around 2006 or 2007. So the Red Sox had a jump on the Pats.

I always wondered why the Patriots did not link to the Jimmy Fund??

Not real aware what the Kraft Foundation actually does....

The Red Sox could lose every game and that would only make their fanbase love them more.

MLB has become a joke.

It is a baseball town. Of course, my answer might get a rebuttal due to being on a football forum.

It isn't a baseball town anymore. Interest in the Sox is at a few decades long low. While the Pats are at a high. In fact, the Bruins are gaining ground on the Sox for #2 although they have a ways to go.

Baseball is slipping into anachronism. Even croquet and lawn darts are gaining ground.

It's cyclical. If the RS win a WS or even go to one soon, the Bruins return to mediocrity, the Celtics rebound and the Pats falter, it could all be turned upside down in no time. No one really knows. The Pats are my favorite team, but I like and follow all of the others closely, except for the Bruins (but I'm glad when they do well), but even after the past couple of seasons, the Red Sox are still enormously popular. My take is that it's a baseball, football, basketball and hockey town. Never understood the need by some to denigrate the other teams to make one's favorite look better. And, just to be clear, I DON'T think that's what you're doing or suggesting.

The Red Sox haven't fallen off the map, but interest is not there like the Patriots anymore. The Pats are #1 in this town right now, but not by a huge margin.

I think the Red Sox will continue to decline though just because kids aren't into baseball like they used to be. More and more are into soccer and other sports.

The sports themselves are not equal, nor is popularity simply dependent on who's winning. Baseball is slow, tradition-bound, and young people are turning away from it. Buzz is low on the Bankofamericasox despite their surprisingly strong record this year. Once Pats training camp gets going, they'll be an afterthought.

My guess, and it is only a guess, more marginal fans.

I mean the ones that, for some reason, want other drivers to know they are sport fans.

You know, ones that do not know the in field fly rule or what false start is but insist they watch every game.

Just a theory.

Um, then why does a Sox-Yankees in a pennant race in August have lesser ratings than a Patriots PRE-SEASON game?

Baseball is on a demographic decline as soccer similarly increases. As long as no other Patriot shoots another citizen football will be #1 here.

I still don't buy this being a baseball town but that's me..even my baseball buddies turn on on a game and go..this is boring lets watch a movie

Reason #473 to hate Boston. (Reasons 1 through 472 involve Beacon Hill.:) )
