Manman's Final 2013 Mock (almost, maybe?)

I'm not a huge fan of Robert Woods as a Pats fit. I think he does his best work in the slot, which is not what we need, while he doesn't either have the speed or the size to be the threat we need on the outside. We've all repeatedly said we need a deep threat, and I think we either get that through pure speed or through having a big bodied receiver. Woods is neither one.

Would prefer Wheaton or Rogers later on and then take one of the corners or Arthur Brown. Just my opinion obviously. Perhaps Woods was playing hurt and is faster/ stronger than I give him credit for. I like the Wilson and Alonso picks though.

It's as valid as any other opinion.

Woods did play hurt last year. as I said in my OP, I see Woods as a Reggie Wayne type and we know that's appealing to BB. Whether that's because BB wants that type of receiver or because it's Reggie Wayne he wants is open to interpretation. I've always liked Wheaton and he's an interchangeable option and Rogers has a lot going for him too but at the end of the day, when it comes to a mock, you just have to make choices.

Well Woods was playing hurt last year, had an ankle injury that he never fully shook off. He's definitely faster than he seems to be given credit for on here.

He's the best route runner and the most cerebral wr in this draft class and he's got excellent hands. He almost always makes YAC and he's makes difficult catches look easy. The main knock on him, from my perspective, is his mental attitude. His head can drop if things don't go his way, and he seemed to let his discomfort with his ankle injury affect him far more mentally than it should've. I'm excited about him as a fit for the Patriots, as excited as I've ever been about any possible (realistic) draft choice. He's Brandon Lloyd with better speed and YAC.

Here's NFL.com's take on him:

This is Woods in his freshman year against Stanford (Woods is #13 in this vid). Bear in mind that the Stanford #9 he spends most of his time going up against is none other than Richard Sherman.

It's simplistic but Robert Woods is a Sherman beater.

Not the biggest woods fan, i'd like someone else there but agree with a wr pick.
Love the Alonso pick, his hits remind me a lot of spikes. He might not be Spikes big but sure is a big hitter. Love him.

Hard to argue with everything else. Another job well done!

#101 Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State

I was ready to put Josh Boyce in this slot, in fact he was locked in as far as I was concerned until I went back to look at Wilson again. Question: Why on earth would a team take Justin Hunter in the first/second when they can have Wilson in the fourth/fifth?

Well the most obvious answer is clearly Wilson's character. Is he a quitter? That's the question that matters most and is the most decisive factor in determining whether he's draftable or not. But we don't know the full details of the incident that saw him quitting school and nor are we privy to his interviews. All we do know, is that he, at least, got to first base with the Patriots in that he earned a private workout.

There are two other major problems with his game. Firstly, his tape features some of the worst drops I've seen by a WR. He's also completely lacking any ability to be physical in game; he's as finesse as they come.

So why did he displace Boyce? Well firstly, that finesse I talked about is as beautiful as it gets. Whether it's catching the ball or running with it, Wilson is as smooth as the finest whiskey. He also has elite body control. He can turn himself inside out in order to catch the ball. Despite his lack of strength, Wilson might be the best in class at beating press coverage and only Austin and Patterson can beat him at being able to run with the ball in his hands.

In answer to my earlier question, whilst the question of his character is something that needs to be resolved, there is no way I'd take Hunter that high when I can have Wilson here. Wilson is the better all-round receiver and certainly the better fit for the Patriots. In our offense, I think he has elite level upside.

Good find brother manxman2601 Marquess Wilson was Excellent at the combines. He could be a steal from the late 3rd on. The WR position is looking very deep in this Draft it migt not be First Round requirement for our Patriots. Marquess Wilson seems to have as much Talent as some of the Top WR's in this Draft good find again.

So here you go:

#35 Robert Woods, WR, USC
#59 Kiko Alonso, LB, Oregon
#91 Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama
#101 Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State
#226 Kayvon Webster, CB, USF
#235 Jordan Kovacs, S, Michigan

I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Boo! Boo! Boo!

To be fair, I do like the Barrett Jones and Kayvon Webster selections. :p

Aside from that, I will round up the pitchfork and torch crowd if the New England Patriots select Woods and Alonso with the first two selections in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Manman what's the story on WR DeAndre Hopkins? The guy has Mitts for hands 10inch to be exact, he doesn't have that much negatives either. He's also an exceptional route runner what's not to like?

I heard from another site that Robert Woods might have bad wheels that is a bad pair of Ankles that will require a year off. Is there any truth to that rumor? If so I would like us to stay away very early on. Wouldn't be against taking a chance with our Second Round selection though.

A) He might go too high

B) Doesn't have Woods' quickness which I think is a need in our offense

c) Allegedly trashed his hotel room at the combine. It the story is true, he'd be off my draft board completely for immaturity.

He's a good receiver, I just think Woods is the better fit.

Your tiny crowd will have to force there way through my cheering hoards happy we have a starting WR and a coverage LB that plays like Spikes

You coverage linebacker is nothing more than a menace to society.

Kiko Alonso, ILB, Oregon, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Was charged with a DUI February, 2010, ironically just hours after Kelly had announced that Oregon would be ramping up penalties to players who ran afoul of the law. Alonso was also arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespass on May 1, 2011. He ultimately pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges to avoid jail time.

Three years ago and that burglary was merely him breaking into a home for a place to sleep. Has been a stand up citizen since.

I agree and don;t think that should be held against him.

Teams will question him about it, but I can't see teams taking him off their boards because of it.

Priorities for the New England Patriots defense:

1. Pash rush, pash rush, pass rush and even more pass rush

2. Coverage safeties (Gregory sucks, Wilson is over-the-hill)

3. Cornerbacks (Cole sucks, Ras-I won't last more than 8 games)

I disagree. Stop TE's getting record performances against our LBs and secondary.

If the New England Patriots strong safety or strong safeties could cover anyone without zero coverage, the tight end coverage would be solved.

You can erase the safety position from your list of 3 concerns. BB is extremely happy with the Pats' S situation. Next year is the year to draft a S.

There's actually really good mid-round value at Safety this year.
