Robert Kraft blasts Welker's agent

I don't really care that he said it and am not worrying too much it was just a pointless conversation and very "unpatriot-like" what did it help to blast the agent? Welker still won't be on the team even if everyone in New England hates Dunn.

If he says nothing, many will take that as as acknowledgement that they indeed made no offer, which looks really bad. I think it angered him enough to speak out. I have no issue with it at all.

There are dozens and dozens of threads on it, and if you can't find the garbage people have talked about him then you may want to do it in Braille.

If you say so, sorry if I don't take your word for. I see tons of thread discussing the situation but none that are negative towards Welker. I've seen a couple people make dumb statements about Welker, some that have pointed to his two big drops (which is a valid criticism), and few calling him greedy. But the overwhelming majority have accepted what happened as a two way street with some putting 51% or more of the blame on one side or the other. But nothing that comes close to supporting your statement.

You know what? You guys have won me over. The Patriots really wanted Welker and did everything they could to keep him in NE but were simply unable to break the bank to meet his outrageous demands. And we all know how greedy he is so that's not surprising. Great job Patriots, my bad. I apologize Bob, I know you did your very best but Wes was just too much of a money grubber.

Just saw the Kraft interview. Boy, he was smoking hot in responding to Qs. What stuck out to me was his comment: " I don't answer to Brady". He seemed bothered by comments attributed to a close Brady associate that Brady was deeply disturbed by the Pats letting Welker go over a difference of $2 million.

Very informative interview. Clearly, he wanted to communicate multiple messages to fans, agents, Brady.

Actually that's my fault, i manufactured the whole "BRADY PISSED thing as a hoax and it went viral.

Now weez knows whos da masta

I get it just fine thank you. The main point of what I posted is that this deal that would pay 8 million is probably a lie or some bending of the truth. Probably it paid 8 million if he hit all his incentives like being an All-pro. There's two all-pro spots what are the chances he does that when the team was already reducing his role? I think that's why we got the leak that he was upset about his role because he was thinking if I resign I need to be on the field to meet my incentives and I don't know if I'll be riding the pine to Julian freaking Edelman.

"Probably a lie"????? That's like being a 'little pregnant'.

Look, you are throwing around words. Mgcolby gave you facts. You're hypothesizing with "probably a lie". Obviously, you don't even take that contention seriously, otherwise you would just say it's a damn lie.

We all get it. You are emotionally upset about Wes Welker no longer being in New England. There is nothing wrong with that. It may be a mistake by the Pats or it may be a great move. We'll find out over the next 2-5 years.

So what was the excuse for the other 31 teams (including Denver) not coming up with a more lucrative offer?

This should be good........

(Maybe it will dawn on you by August that the market for him was what it was and his agent misplayed his hand.)

Umm I wanted him gone and posted such to be called a moron by you same people last off season? I stated that I'd keep him for 7 million but thought he would get more so if he left I'd be ok. Even I, someone who thought we should move away from Welker, could see this was a colossal failure by the FO. Oh so it wasn't a lie? Then why is Wes Welker playing for the Denver Broncos if we offered him a better deal than what he signed with the Broncos? That is a quote from Kraft. BETTER DEAL. And there have been no reports that when Welker came back the offer was taken off the table, just that it was not increased. So if that offer was BETTER why did Welker leave?

Explain that to me.

Hadn't you heard shmessy, I already conceded defeat. you guys were right, the Patriots went all out but Welker was just too greedy. Can't blame the team for losing a guys they "wanted for life" because they maxed out and simply couldn't meet his outrageous demands. Welker's off the charts production the last 6 years wasn't because he';s a great player, he isn't, he's just a creation of the Patriots. The market spoke and the market is the truth, Ocho >Welker. Thank you for showing me the way to the truth.

Great, now you've managed to take the obnoxious in a complete 180.

This should really elevate the discourse on this board to new heights.

No your witty remarks are doing a fine job of that.

Welker discussions around here have been screwy for a while. I posted, in argument against those who dumped on him, that Welker was a deserving Pro Bowler with a flaw. Somehow, that so offended folks that the thread grew highly antagonistic and got locked.

The ones who actually wanted him off the roster, however, were always few. A number more bought into the consensus as to his market value, and thought the money could be better used elsewhere. Others thought he should be signed at any amount up to second-franchise-tag numbers. Others held opinions in between.

Huge difference in genuine opinions, but also huge misreadings of other people's views.

Kraft looms like a baby by saying "I dont answer to Tom Brady" well no **** dude, you're the owner, he's an employee. We all know who calls the shots man, there was simply no need to make the comment considering Tom never said anything regarding the situation. Moment of insecurity for Bob?

To me it is obvious the WW fall out rumor mill touched a nerve with Kraft. This led him to speak off the cuff. While I don't have a problem with a few statements to clarify the Patriots position, something to the effect 'we did offer WW a deal, we wanted WW on our team, comparatively to Denver our offer had advantages, WW decided to take Denver's offer, we absolutely were disappointed', I think he needed to temper his wording and keep it dry and succinct. But he let, to a modest extent, his emotions do the talking. As an owner -- especially as the owner of the automaton like Patriots -- he cannot allow himself to be caught up in his emotions when talking with the press. It was ill advised (IMHO) to speak of what will happen to WW with the Broncos.
The one time I wish he would have disregarded the 'say little' rule of the Patriots is with Spygate. He watched a mole hill become K2 yet said nothing. I wish he would have done at minimum what he just did with the WW situation.

With that said, I believe what Kraft is saying. This did not come across as media department created spin control, this was Kraft letting it fly. And it puts to bed the "egos caused WW to leave" or 'Patriots were slapping WW in the face with a flimsy offer' nonsense. The Patriots wanted WW back but were doing what they almost always do, setting a value and largely sticking to it. This how the Patriots do business. On the other hand WW took the offer he felt was best for him..... making a business decision. There simply is no nefarious intentions to be assigned to anyone. It was business. Ultimately who made the better choice (WW, Patriots, neither, both)? Let's chat around Christmas time.
Lastly, I'm a big fan of WW and what he did here, however, he is catching passes from P Manning now. With as little malice intended as possible, here is hoping WW comes down with a serious case of Greasy-Slippery Hands in 2013!

I'm glad Kraft went gangster here because many people on this forum, and by extension the general public, hold on to the ludicrous belief that Tom Brady has a say in both who he plays with and for how long he will be the starting QB of the NEP. This was a clear message to those people--and to Brady and his "people"--that they are sorely mistaken.

You still don't get it....he will cost them 6 million in cash year two, but would count 8 million against the cap. Year two cap savings by cutting Welker before his 3 million roster bonus is due is 6 million (2 million in dead money). Hence there is no guarantee he sees year two at that number. Instead of taking more money up front from NE he is taking a risk that he doesn't get hurt or hit the proverbial wall.

Regardless how you feel about it Kraft is right: 8 million cash guaranteed in year one from NE and 6 million cash guaranteed year one from Denver.

He had 100+ and 1000+ this year and Denver didn't give him 8 million of their cap space.....and from what I have read they are projected to have less next year.

IF this is true -- obviously none of us can be absolutely sure at this point -- either WW's agent did a substandard job, WW disregarded the possibility and went with Denver's offer anyway or the market for WW was soft as silk. A 6 million cap savings after only one playing year? On a contract that is 8 million per year average??. Wow. There are just too many variables (too many of them completely out of WW's control) that could work against him. IMHO anything conspicuously less than production equal to his time with the Patriots and he is more likely to be cut than not (Denver's cap situation obviously is a big factor).
Again IF this is true, this is the best WW could do??? Only one year of certainty followed by being an attractive prospect for being cut? Again, wow...

I call it a moment of frustration with inaccurate commentary and reporting.
