Interesting offseason cuts around the league thread

You can never have too many good man-to-man cover DBs.

Agreed, but I don't see much of what that has to do with suggesting Dennard move to the slot, which would instantly weaken 2 positions with Arrington.

The major question to your proposal would be "what's in it for Talib?"

I think the only way he comes on a deal like that is if the market dries up and no one else offers anything better. We'll know in the next week or two.

In the meantime, a 3 yr deal averaging 6-7 million per year may still be nowhere near what the front office is comfortable with. That's actually what I'm assuming to be honest. I just can't see a fit here unless no one else really offers anything better.

My thinking is that with the flux of good DBs, Talib may just take an incentive-laden deal to stay here. Again, I'm not suggesting the Pats overpay, but I am assuming that if Talib keeps his nose clean and plays an exceptional corner for NE, they will pay him accordingly. $6m a year is reasonable for a very good CB.

My comment wasn't specifically about suggesting Dennard move to the slot as I think he is fine where he is. As it realtes to Ras-I, who knows what will become of him. In general, I'm ok with Arrington in the slot, but do think the team can upgrade in that area.

Sione Pouha cut by the Jets, good player but was injured a lot last season.

If Dennard was your slot and you had another competent number 2, in the AFC championship game you wouldn't see the defense turning to poo because you would have a slot corner that can actually play well on the outside unlike Arrington.

Had no idea Pouha was 34...that's a shame.

According to Schefter:Kevin Walter released by the Texans..

Guy is a poor man's Wes Welker.

Kevin Walter is 6'3 and ran a 4.40 forty-yard dash. He's only a poor man's Welker in the sense that he's a white receiver who isn't set to make as much money as Wes.

Would at least be a much needed upgrade over Love.

Put him in as part of a 3 man rotation with Love and Wilfork, and you allow him to play fewer snaps with his bad back, while giving the team better depth and allowing the team to give Wilfork a few more plays off per game. If Pouha's contract demands are reasonable, it would seem to be a win for both sides, IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I would have no problem picking him up. I just wish he were a bit younger so he could stick around here for longer :D

I hear you. I was just trying to keep the Pouha stuff grouped together so new people reading the thread wouldn't think we were trying for a full blown sidetrack. ;)

winfield..nnamdi soon...man so many vet DBs

all in on winfield

Quoting me a 40 yard dash time that is 10 years old does nothing. Secondly, quoting a site that contradicts itself (40-yard-dash-times.com) that contradicts itself (4.40 in one spot, 4.45 in another) is pretty stupid.

The reality is that Walter never played up to his 40 time. He was an good slot receiver. Not great, good. He ended up playing more outside with them because the Texans couldn't find anyone who could outplay Walter and play the outside opposite Johnson.

It's shaping up very well for us, lots of options out there that may be the answer for our secondary. Hope we can take advantage and hit on one or two, preferably a S and a outside CB.

Also I might have lobbied for Walter if this was '08 or '09 but his production has fallen off alot since then.
