If they have any pride, I think they are losing something. Is that enough? Maybe not, I guess we will see.

Don't hold your breath. These billionaires have too many other sources of Pride to let this affect them.
They are all just thinking to themselves, "this will pass and the idiot fan bases will keep sipping the NFL Koolaid like it never happened."

This isn't a holding call in the first quarter. It's the final play of the game, and it's a win/lose call. Changing it isn't bad precedent. It's righting a wrong, and it would have been the right thing to do.

OK. Say Goodell reversed the call and the outcome of the game. Then the Patriots would get into it and say "replays show that the ball went over the upright. You have to reverse that one, too." Any game that has ended on a close call will then be subjected to reversal. No game should be changed after it's been put in the books I also think that it is wrong for the NFL to make a statement about that one call. There were so many bad calls on Sunday that fans will start demanding explanations for each one. There are at least 5 calls from Sunday that I would like to see the NFL explain away.

I agree with you, which makes it kind of funny because on one hand it essentially means that all of these billionaires value a couple of million dollars over their pride.

OTOH, pride is exactly why I don't expect a deal to get done. It would require the league (owners) admitting that it was wrong, which will never happen.

Peter King chimes in on the ref negotiations

There's also still the matter of the league tryingi to roll back the officials' pension. Over the last five years, the league has contributed, on average, about $5.3 million per year to the officials' pension plan. The league, in keeping with the current cost-cutting practice of corporations across America, no longer wants to guarantee how much each official would get in retirement, but rather tie the contributions to a 401(k)-type pension. That would save the league about $3.3 million per year.

$3.3 million a year.....or .11% of the new TV contract......or roughly $103,000 PER TEAM, per year....PEANUTS

******* greedy nonsense is what it is......these guys are the lowest paid of all the pro leagues for probably the hardest job......it is obvious they are an integral part of a multi-billion dollar a year industry, they pay all of their own expenses each week......for crying out loud, stop squeezing them and bring them back

treat them like the professionals that they are....they aren't perfect, but they are obviously 1000% better than what gets trotted out there right now

no way they should have reversed the outcome

but 'we effed up.....we are working to get better, but the outcome of the game is final......we are doing our best to rectify the situation, we apologize to the fans, who pay our salary' would have been better than this nonsense

The NFL is covering for the rent a refs, this doesn't look good for the NFL or the fans. Goodell must go.

You cannot start changing wins/losses after the fact though regardless of how egregious the error was. That just begins us down a slippery slope no matter what.

Last play of game = special case and easy to fix

It's really that simple

And we answered with, "Really, when and where? You can do me any time you want!"
I am still watching every minute of football my work and wife allow me to this week…still wasting time on the fantasy team…and yes, hoping we get to celebrate a victory on Patsfans. Nothing will change unless the owners lose something.

I didn't answer it that way. I posted about this elsewhere. I usually watch up to 10 games each week, and often catch others in replay. I'll no longer be doing that. I won't be watching on Thursday, and I won't be watching any games that don't involve the Patriots.

And, if they don't get this straightened out and I see a repeat of Sunday night's officiating in the Patriots game, I'll stop watching those, too.

After reading the NFL's statement on the matter -- in which the league said that though offensive pass interference should have been called on Seahawks' receiver Golden Tate, and though the simultaneous catch could have been reviewed, the result would stand -- Rodgers had this to say:

"That's garbage, obviously. They're covering their butt here."

Rodgers also said he was apologizing to the fans because the NFL wouldn't and that the league cares more about money than about its integrity.

The NFL is going to see this problem getting worse and worse until/unless they smarten up.

I don't blame the referees. With the way the market still is, they'd be getting screwed by the NFL stopping direct contributions and rolling their retirement packages into a 401K type of plan.
Ironically I am on the side of the league over the actual issues, I am just against them for not getting it done before this or having a backup plan.

I don't really give a ***** about their retirement plan but a 401K is absolutely reasonable given that the rest of us have that. And the refs aren't special, they just suck less than the current guys who are 4th string as the second string is reffing on Saturdays.

What King said about the league wanting more refs who are qualified so they can replace, temporarily or permanently, underperforming refs is difficult for me to argue with.

Color me quite surprised (and pleasantly) that some players are defying Herr Oberkommisar in public. I do take deep pleasure in anything that makes the bozo twist in the wind.

I don't know if they've got it up yet, but you might want to listen to, or read the transcript of, the WEEI interview with Chris Mortenson.

I dont think the NFL thought the regular refs are as integral as they are and probably thought the replacements could do a decent enough job and that the refs would cave, or at least 61 of them would cave. As we have all seen, that back fired and the NFL is under a ton of pressure to get the regulars back asap, I belive they're meeting right now so something could get done soon.

Insulting our intelligence again? Keep it up NFL and you just may find your lack of regard for us fans may be your undoing.

Then they should be bringing back the regular referees to replace the garbage that they're fielding right now.
