Changed his tune on Williams, too doing a complete 180. Probably thinking ahead about filing suit down the line with ample rationale that football made me stupid.

Per the TMZ reports, Sapp owes more than $6.7 million, including nearly $1 million to the IRS and hundreds of thousands of dollars in “support payments and alimony to at least 4 different baby mamas.”

Sapp claims $6.45 million in assets, which includes 240 pairs of Jordan sneakers and sandals, a Lion skin rug and a large nude women painting. He also has a De Grisogono watch but notes it has scratches on the crystal and band.

Sapp currently earns $540,000 per year working for NFL Network -- $45,000 per month – but according to the report his contract expires in August and he does not know if he will be renewed.

Sapp is a d'bag!

Sucks to be him!

Every now and then, someone comes along who is a great player on the field but who makes you long for the day when we didn't have a 24 hour news cycle and wouldn't have known too much about "who" the guy really is off the field.

Sapp is one of those people. I have to admit that I used to admire his play, but everything about him, his ideas, his personality makes me wish that I didn't know anything else about him.

Forgive me if I don't get too emotional and heartbroken at this news.

They pay those guys over a half mill a year!!!!

Why am I not surprised? You would think even the dumbest of these athletes who squander a small country's net worth in a few short years would at least put away a million or two for a rainy day. But as John Belushi used to say, "But NNNOOOO!" I have enormous sympathy for the truly needy, but not one ounce for cats like Sapp, and it appears the list gets larger every day.......

$540,000 + his pension is sufficient income for his debt, and he should liquidate some of his assets .. it is stupid to think he is going to be able to walk away from his debt obligations..

Do it the old fashioned way, suck it up and figure it out.. this is a reason for the NFL Network not to hire him back.. besides being an absolute butt hole.

Wowsers.

that sucks.

oh well.

I looked online. Between 2000-2007 alone, Sapp pulled in about $43.6 million in real dollars. Granted the agent and taxes eat up much of that, but he probably made at least $25-30 million after taxes and agent fees during his career. I mean how do you lose that kind of money?

BTW, why does anyone need 240 pairs of sneakers and sandals? I get why some women have hundreds of pairs of shoes, but at least that makes more sense because certain shoes go with certain outfits. But sneakers aren't usually match with different outfits.

...that's what i was thinking...holy crap that is money NOT well spent. Where is the value for the NFL networks's dollar?

At the end of the day all of these hires are just opinions. What does what they say even really mean?

I feel bad for guys like this but at the end of the day, they only really have themselves to blame. That kind of lifestyle is not sustainable. They don't really live in the real world do they....

That pretty much sums it up. Ever since Sapp tried to humiliate Russ Hochstein by attempting to "interview" him at the Super Bowl years ago I've had no stomach for the bug-eyed toad. I would love for the NFLN not to renew his contract.

Most people weren't brought up and trained to deal with an income in the millions, and that holds true even more so for the kids coming from severe poverty. Debt is a huge problem throughout the country, and at all levels of income. When it's a problem for the wealthy athlete, we see it highlighted. When it's the plumber maxed out on 4 credit cards and still bleeding cash, it's not news.

at least now we know why most of the nfl programming is horrific. half a million per moron!

Another athlete who needed a lobotomy of the penis.

It's more a question of lifestyle than the money itself. But you're right in that many of these people never learned personal responsibility and what it means to truly take are of oneself.

Absolutely pathetic, how these guys go broke is beyond me. It does not take a ton of financial management skill to put away money for a rainy day. Sapp is a joke along with all these other clowns who "ball out" until they have nothing left. It's very simple really, intelligent wealthy people invest in appreciating assets (namely real estate) unintelligent wealthy people; mostly professional athletes, invest in depreciating assets (cars, rims, jewelry, hookers, cocaine) and then they wonder why they're in court filing for chapter 7. Be smart with your money boys.

sounds like everyone enjoys schadenfreude today....

Hmmm....can he rush the passer?

Well, actually, it's still Lent so I can't have any for one more day...but I'm hoping to find some in my Easter Basket tomorrow morning.

Since that's not what I was saying at all, I'll just note that poor people who strike it rich tend to struggle keeping the money. This is true in sports, in the lottery, and even in business.
