Manning to Broncos

Well first I thought for SURE that Manning was going to the Phins. Nice weather, decent team, he already has a home there, he'd immediately become an icon, an owner who desperately needed a splash, good defense, a pretty good offense. How could he NOT go there......OOPS.

OK - Now its between Denver, AZ and the Titans. Denver has the cold windy stadium and lots of flaws on offense and defense - AZ- is where you want to go when your in Witness Protection - and the Titans, who's OL was one of the best in the the league in protecting their QB, and the only team having the state legislature looking to make you the official state QB...plus is like going home for him. Its a no brainer.....OOOPS

Now, SF comes in with a late bid. Great running game, good OL, added Manningham and Moss to Crabtree, so OK there, one of the top TE's in the league....and decent weather. "Another no brainer. BUT if you can't work it out the Titans are a good fall back. AND Denver.... well they seem out of luck, right?.......OOOOPS

How can one guy be SOOOOO wrong, SOOOO many times in this process. Quite frankly because I missed the most important factor in the entire process......THE MONEY -

I image all three of the of the losing teams, MIGHT have been able to squeeze Manning's financial demands into their tightish cap situations, but there was only ONE team that could EASILY fit him in without mortgaging their futures, and the was the LEAST likely team to win this race......the Denver Broncos......and they did.

Jacksonville already said they didn't want him and signed another QB, Chad Henne
When did they say that? Jacksonville shouldn't be making any sort of public proclamations about QB on some other team's roster, but all the scuttle we've heard suggests they would be interested in him.

Why is it everyone trashed Lebron for going to the most stacked team and now the people are trashing Peyton for NOT going to the most stacked team???

FWIW, I don't think that everyone trashed LeBron for going to Miami, in and of itself, so much as the way that it happened.

Same deal here with Vinatraitor versus, say, Jabar Gaffney.

Elway had already made clear that he didn't view Tebow as a solution at QB - that basically created a situation where he needed a new QB and Manning seems like the best on the market.

It probably wasnt the smartest negotiating tactic by Elway but he'd made it clear that Tebow was out.

Now it will be interesting to see what the market is for Tebow as a QB and what his trade value is.

Tebow should wake up - as should other teams in need of a QB - that as athletic and talented (in improvising) as he is, he's just not an NFL QB.

Someone will likely give him a shot just to sell short term tickets, but if Tebow were smart he'd look to reinvent himself as a player who can do damage on the field in a position other than QB

I am beginning to think that the 49'ers might be completely hosed. Alex Smith is in Miami and they lost out on Manning. Who plays QB?
Eh, I think Smith stays in San Fran, but this may enable him to squeeze a few more bucks out of them.

Manning was cut. Lebron was still wanted by his team. Manning chose an existing team. Lebron was creating his own team with Bosh and Wade.

Huge differences...

In essence, Manning passed up going to the best EXISTING team. Lebron screwed over his team and went elsewhere to form a so-called super team.

...and Lebron was a product of Cleveland, yet had to have ESPN run a show for him to announce that he was leaving the city he grew up in.

Honestly I think the Broncos were a good pick for him, as the 49ers would have been, but he also handled it very professionally. People may have been tired about the dog and pony show the media put us through, but that's not his fault. He was only a free agent for barely a week and a half. That's enough time to research every option without rushing, while not taking forever leaving teams to screw up their off-season waiting for him.

Kudos to Manning for how he handled it, Lebron could take lessons.

Maybe Lebron should learn something from Peyton "Horsey" Manning. I liked the fact that Peyton didn't make his "DECISION" public on ESPN etc , rather he called Elway and informed him of his intentions, and also called the other teams to inform them that he wont be joining them

Manning will make the Broncos a much better team. I am very relieved Manning did not go to the Niners. They would have been a jugernaught.

The 49ers were already great. but now Peyton is going to make Denver a contender. It would have been better for our Super Bowl hopes if Peyton went to the NFC. Sooner or later it will be Brady vs. Manning in the playoffs once again.

Alex Smith is either going to get a nice raise or the 49'ers will be looking for a qb. Maybe Tebow? LOL

I've got the Chargers taking the division.

MNF doesn't usually get the big huge solid marquee games. In fact, they get screwed with a bunch of stinkers. I think this will be SNF all the way, although I'm sure CBS (perhaps alongside their good friend, Bob Kraft) will want it very badly for a national 4:15 game and be lobbying for it.

You're forgetting how weak that division is. With Manning in there, the Broncos can easily be on top and get into the playoffs every year.

This tells us that Peyton is not about winning. If he was about winning, he'd be signing a deal in San Francisco.

I dont agree with this assesment at all.

Its not like he chose the worst team in the league over a team in the NFC championship game. He chose a team with a extremely good defense that actually had a playoff win last year.

Sure San Fran looks like a better team to most NFL fans and analysts but he could have some valid reasons for thinking his chances of winning were better in Denver than San Fran. For starters the AFC seems like the easier conference right now.

I think you mean Sunday Night Football. . . .

Yeah, I think NBC might play the "you owe me one" card on the whole Broncos@Pats thing after last year's regular season non-flex.

When did they say that? Jacksonville shouldn't be making any sort of public proclamations about QB on some other team's roster, but all the scuttle we've heard suggests they would be interested in him.

According to Mark Long of the Associated Press, the Jaguars will "not" pursue Tim Tebow as long as Gene Smith is the team's GM.
In other words, Smith isn't a Tebow "believer." Following news of Friday's Peyton Manning visit with the Broncos, speculation has been rampant that Denver might deal Tebow to Jacksonville. New Jags owner Shahid Kahn did say recently that he "would have drafted" Tebow in 2010, but that doesn't mean a thing because he doesn't have personnel say. Smith calls all of the shots. Mar 9 - 3:00 PM

They already have Gabbert and Henne at fairly large salaries. It ain't gonna happen.

Anytime someone - no matter who - becomes a free agent (or is on the trading block), someone in here talks about them coming to New England.

I think Belichick likes Tebow and could find some use for him, but the Pats won't be willing to offer nearly as much as other teams - specifically Jacksonville and maybe Miami - who could really use him, not just as a QB but also as a ticket salesman.
THAT is what I just can't understand. Exactly WHAT use could BB have for this kid.

TE - I don't think so. You have 2 of the best and just paid good money for their back up

FB- BB is NEVER going to pay above minimum wage for a FB, on those very rare occasions he even bothers to have one on the roster.

QB- Now that is the most ridiculous reason of all. At what point in a game would you rather have Tim Tebow on the field than Tom Brady - then if that weren't enough, you we already have a highly regarded back up, and a 3rd guy who is likely to be better than BOTH Tebow and Hoyer. Yeah... right... we "really" need Tebow as a QB

But I'm not not a bad guy. I'll give you a scenario where Tebow becomes a Pat this season; First Hoyer would have to leave. Tebow would have to get cut, because BB isn't going to give up a pick for him. THEN and only then, would BB consider him as the #3 QB....and only after he took a pay cut. THEN and only then he could be the #3 QB/jack of all trades for the Pats. Happy?

Oh and by the Way DAMN!!!!

I really wish he had decided to go somewhere else. Denver is my second most hated team behind the Jets. (giants might be two now but I havent recovered enough to reasses that yer)

Ever since Shannon Sharpe uttered that phrase call the national guard I have hated them. It was a while ago that I read this so it may not be true anymore but at one point they had beat us more than any other franchis (may have been by percentage??(basically a hazey statement))

I think I may have perferred him in MIA and playing him twice year because lets face it on Denver he has a better chance of making the SB than he would of on MIA. At least initially.

Should have just chose San Fran and made the AFC that much easier for us.

Oh well should make for some fun games in the next few years with those damn Broncos. Bring it
