Anderson will be tough to keep. He's turned a few heads this year.

I'm not so sure he showed anyone he is any different than it was already known he was. A sub package pass rusher who struggles doing much else and can get you some sacks.
That is what garnered him a one year deal for 1mill plus a 375k signing bonius from us after his team cut him in October the year before and the team that picked him up didn't try to bring him back.
I don't think the number in his sack column has changed many opinions of him.
I don't think anyone doubted he could be a pass rush specialist.
Yeah, not real sure what you saw out there that was good run D. When he was out there, which was mostly only after Carter was hurt he was eaten alive by blockers most of the time.I disagree entirely.
I think that Anderson played the run a lot better than most anyone thought he could, and having a double-digit sack total never hurts in any capacity.
I'm saying he proved that he can't play the run, and while he had more success his pass rush skills were known. As I said, the number in the sack column is nice but not something GMs are shocked by and thought was impossible. You're acting like he was already known for his ability to gain a double digit sack total....except that has not happened in SIX seasons.
The other sack totals were:
5
1
3 1/2
4
4
Saying that M.Anderson didn't surprise some people by going back to double digit sack totals since his rookie year in 2006 AND showed that he can do a lot better against the run is very short-sighted.

It was a good season for Anderson, but it just didn't change his status much. He is still a pass rush only specialist, but happens to be coming off a nice year.
And the patriots have announced ZERO re-signings. This is most unusual.
So the fact that you had an opinion 2 months ago is proof of something? We regularly discussed how Anderson was playing the run better than anticipated throughout some of the playoff threads.
I think your memory is faulty, but if not I'm sure you could link a few. Not that a media persons opinion will change what I saw with my eyes. There were also many media members who said how surprised they were about his capacity to hold up against the run much better than we originally thought.
Doesn't really matter. I dont think any Patriot writers are any more capable of assessing what they see than you or I.I wish that I could somehow post a link, but I wouldn't even know how to go about finding some of those older mailbags/articles from a couple of months ago.
Unless you want to actually go back and watch the film. I have and it supported my opinion.I suppose it's something we'll have to disagree on.
I hope he is, but if so it will be exclusively as a sub package rusher or emergency player, just as it was this year.Regardless, I don't think Anderson is going to be part of the plans here next yr, but if he were I wouldn't have any problem with it.
Frankly, you are much more impressed by his 10 sacks than I. I didn't see much more than mediocre plus a few sacks late in blowouts to pump up his stats.I think he takes a deal that's better than what the NEP would give him here. If so, I'm guessing he will go back to being mediocre at best.
EDIT: here's a quote that I got from an article in regards to his PFF rankings this yr:
"Anderson was a well-rounded defensive end for the Patriots this season, not just an asset as a pass rusher. He ranked 24th against the run and 14th as a pass rusher, according to Pro Football Focus. And his rating of 13th overall was only six spots behind Bears star Julius Peppers."
Thats exactly what I'm saying with the exception of he had a good year of sack stats.I am not suggesting that Anderson's biggest weakness is not still against the run.
What I am suggesting is that he improved on that weakness. Not only that, he put up double digit sack totals for the first time since his rookie year.
You seem to be suggesting that he is the same player that everyone thought he was. That is what I am disagreeing with.
You keep saying he improved against the run like it will become true if you say it enough.By showing improvements against the run (although maybe not 'great' improvements, they were improvements nonetheless), and having another double-digit sack total for the first time since 2006, he should certainly get more attn than he would have in the past several yrs.
I think the Patriots will see his value about the same as the rest of the league. If Anderson thinks the statsheet makes the payday, he will probably do a lot of shopping and end up disappointed. The question will be whether he and the front office can agree on his worth, as I am guessing that they will not unfortunately.
I guess this is the preemptive dumping on former/soon-to-be former Patriots of which we are all accustomed
Nope. It is me giving my opinion about Anderson which is the same as it was during the season, and is the same it will be whether we resign him, which I hope we do, or he goes elsewhere.
Uh huh. Which is why you're qualifying his sacks as if the same doesn't apply to almost every single rusher in the league.
