Now that Balt 3 in DEF and SF 4 in DEF are out, The remaining two teams i.e Pats and Giants were ranked 31st and 27th respectively in defense.........
Offensively Pats and Giants were ranked 2nd and 8th respectively.....All the mediots who had been saying throughout the season that the Pats wouldn't survive in the playoffs will now eat crow.........

and I counter that with GB #1 offense, NO #2 offense...out. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY

Pats D has stepped up big time

SF was leading until their idiot kick returner gave the ball away twice and handed the Giants the game.

The Pats defense is playing very well right now, it's a different unit with Chung and Spikes back, and Sterling Moore at corner with McCourty at safety.

No offense, but this thread is really dumb because no championships have been won yet and I do believe the team with the best defense on that particular Sunday 2 weeks from today will win the SB.

what do you call AFC championship and NFC championship games? and also as it clearly mentions in the post Pats and Giants were ranked dead bottom in the NFL defensively and both these teams will play in the SB and one of them will end up winning it WHILE HAVING BEING RANKED AT THE NEAR BOTTOM THE WHOLE YEAR DEFENSIVELY

No matter who wins the super bowl they will have a good or great offense and a bad defense based on the regular season.

They never really have. One big lie after another. Teams do and a team's ability to OUTSCORE the other.

Teams who win the turnover battle usually do though, unless you play against the Patriots. Apparently, Pats proved it again that it doesn't really matter against them because Brady usually knows when to throw one that won't kill you. D can prevent offenses from scoring though, and the Patriots D did just that today. So did the Giants' D.

These teams meeting doesn't debunk the defense wins championships theory. Both defenses played well in the Championship Games AND we all know the Pats were criticized cause they gave up so many yards but they didn't give up tons of points. These 2 D's have peaked at the perfect time and one will win thanks to a stellar defensive performance

The NFL has legislated real defense out of the game. Offense gets the ring. Our offense is better than NYG.

:D

Am I the only one that sees in the incredible irony in this thread? The defense won the game today. But, the Superbowl is a team effort. The games today were both decided on special teams play.

No you're not. Most people are brainwashed by yards and cliche phrases that they can't accept anything but what they are being told. Which is what I said in the other thread the Patriots have the #2 special teams defense in the league.

It's why their defense "allow" all those yards. Because they don't give their opponents the ball inside their own 20. And if Brady takes a huge risk he usually throws it deep, when they are UP so they have to travel the FULL field to score.

In fact, throwing a bomb deep in the endzone when you get the ball at midfield after a turnover which gets intercepted, isn't that big of a deal if you can pin them inside the 10. Statistically, the team who intercepts the ball doesn't have that much better a chance of scoring next. The team who scores next is still roughly 50/50 when you start inside your own 5 yard line even if you have the ball.

Now way would this game had been close if Brady had even a modest day against them. It would have been 25-15. You're +2. you get the ball at their own 30 yard line, and you gotta win it in O.T. by 3 on the 3rd possession?

Sorry, but that's just weak.

Adam V says kickers win championships. :p

If the Pats Defense didn't play like they did today then the Patriots don't progress to the Superbowl.

LOL

Brady has a terrible day and you claim defense doesn't win games?

The only reason the Pats won was because the defense had a decent day.

Ravens gift wrapped this game with the Evans drop for the win and the FG shank for the tie.

This thread is in line with why yardage is no longer a valid stat to rank defenses. Thank the NFL who changed the rules to make the game more exciting for that one.
