I remember when the pats got him..i was on a school trip in New Orleans. I was pumped to get him..my buddy's not so much. Bought his jersey. And ever since that game in the snow vs the colts..he is one of my favorite pats backs behind faulk.

We all remember this..

144 yards in that game

Crazy that was what...7 years ago?...wow

Where would you rank him on your favorite pats RBs

I was actually a HUGE Dillon fan when he was in Cincy. Ever since he broke the rookie RB in-game record. Then felt bad for him for so many years. I was ecstatic when we picked him up and even more ecstatic when he got his ring with us.

He belongs in the hall, and I HOPE he goes in as a Patriot.

LOVE DILLON.

Clock-killin Corey Dillon, how could you not like him ? 1600+ yards and 10+ TDs, and a Championship to boot. Big Dillon fan, that 2004 season was sick.

I rank him #1 (sorry curtis). Just a punishing back and he was on the downside athletically. A tape of his 278 (?) yard game is astounding. Not available anymore.

He would have easily made the Hall, if he hadn't wrecked himself by playing on a severe high ankle sprain to squeeze out a win at Buffalo and help us make the playoffs, even though we had tons of DB injuries and little chance. It's always this year!

I truly believe that by the way, I did the math. Just an average season would have seen him pass about 6 players, including Jim Brown, he would have skated into the Hall.

Oh hell yeah. That Patriots Super Bowl is probably the greatest Pats team EVER! I was really excited when we drafted Maroney and thought for sure we'd have the greatest 1-2 punch at RB in the league. Uhhh didn't quite work out. But in 2004 Dillon was a monster

I was never a fan. I respected what he did in 2004, but after that he showed he was the arse he was. He wasn't the locker room cancer that Santonio Holmes is, but he was reported to constantly complain about his role after the 2004 season when he hit the age and injury wall.

Was never a fan of Randy Moss either. Not a fan of Haynesworth when he was here even before he proved me right of being a cancer.

I believe you can be a fan of a team and appreciate the contribution of a player without even liking him. Dillon's off the field digressions will never make me ever be a fan of his.

That said, the only player that makes me sick he was ever in a Patriots uniform is Dave Meggett because he truly is a disgusting human being even by NFL players standards.

Huge fan! Went to a playoff game that year just to see him play. Wish he was a Patriot lifer.

Sounds like you're only a fan of "good soldier" type players...I could care less whether a player is BB soldier as long as they perform well.

Which Corey did...for one year. Clock killin' Corey Dillon was also one and done Corey Dillon. And I don't think he hit a wall physically so much as he got what he wanted and became complacent. One of Bill's bigger mistakes in judgement was signing him to an extension after 2004 rather than letting him play out the string in 2005. Which of course led to the Maroney era...

Good soldiers are how Bill wins wars.

I agree, but they're never going to make up 100% of the roster. Especially if we go outside to sign a "star" player from another team.

Was happy to see Haynesworth cut so soon...

I generally have some sympathy for good or marginally great players who end up in Cincinnati. So, I understood the frustration that Dillon had playing for that sorry excuse for a football franchise.

When the Bengals finally cut him loose, I was happy for him that he ended up with a winning team and had a legit chance to go after a ring.

But, I also thought that he was a sourpuss and a malcontent and not the kind of veteran guy you'd want rookies to look up to. He was a hired gun, a sort of mercenary running back, who had been stiffed by his previous employer, and he was out to prove them wrong.

So, in the grand scheme of things, I'll take a guy like Brian Dawkins over Corey Dillon any day of the week.

What does not liking Dillon have to being a "good soldier" type of player? I am not fan of a guy who quits on his team like Dillon did in Cincy and beats women which he was arrested for both before and after he was with the Pats.

Also, Dillon oerformed well for one year and then became a surly unproductive, often injured player who worked out his wrist waiving to the sidelines to pull him out than than he did working out his legs running. The long term deal he got was one of the worst contracts Belichick gave out in his history here. Dillon sucked and was a bust in 2005 and 2006 before he was cut. People only remember 2004.

I like a lot of players who are not "good soldiers". Dillon is not a good human being and wasn't even a productive player for most of his career as a Patriot.

A good soldier is leading Denver into the second round of the playoffs Saturday. That was the lure for Bill and Josh in case you haven't figured it out. A kid who would stay the course despite his naysayers and listen to his coaches (if they were even speaking to him and not quit when they weren't) and do whatever it took to find a way. Denver isn't here without him. The problem with him was teamates aren't the only ones who follow him, he blows up twitter...and that results in his presenting as a potentially career killing choice for a HC, particularly as high as he went in the draft. In the third or later as a project, with a genuine starter already on the roster, he might be survivable. Otherwise, his potential as a career killer almost outweighted his potential as a good soldier you could possible develop into a field general and leader over time.

It was a vet signing. You're lucky if you get 3 years out of an older player, no matter how good. He was a monster in 2004, oft injured in 2005, and Maroney and Dillon were one hell of a 1-2 punch in 2006. Dillon had to take all of the big boy carries that year, and with only 3-4 WRs on the roster for much of the season, the running game helped carry that team. Maroney could only run effectively out of formations where he had a fullback leading the way. Dillon was handed the ball on any 3rd or 4th down run. Man was he slow by then though. He had the longest walks from scrimmage against the Colts and Jets that year.

He came here under an one year deal and got a very good long term deal in 2005. I have no problem with 2004. It was the long term deal where the Pats got screwed. He got very good starter money and he was never anything more than an effective running back by committee guy after he signed the contract.

Good soldier-type players are the reason why the Patriots have gone to 4 super bowls and won 3 since 2001. I LOVE those type players, but I love a coach who can sell that to NFL stars even more.

My point was that I'm ok if we sign a bad-soldier now and then (Dillon, Moss) as well. If you look at the history of bad-soldiers in New England, you'll find that they fail far more often than they succeed.

Dillon quit on Cinci....and? So what? He didn't quit on the Pats in 2004 and I'll take that one year since it resulted in a championship. I can also separate my appreciation for a player vs. his personal life. Moss was a strange character, but what a player he was to watch!

So, yeah....I LOVED Dillon while he was here!
