Rodney Harrison ripping

Sign Harrison as DC next year imo or just to come stand on the sidelines...that alone might be more intimidating for the opposing offense than our secondary.

I'd definitely love to see him as the DBs coach. But I doubt it pays as well, and requires a whole lot more hours than his TV gig. So I doubt he would take the job if it was offered.

Rodney is absolutely correct. We stopped being a creative, aggressive defense when Romeo left. Was he truly the brains behind this defense and did BB get credit for RC's work? It appears so. BB is considered defensive genius yet he has completely embraced the offensive side of the ball and let the defensive side deteriorate.

I'll probably get ripped for this but at this point I'd take Mangini back. Loved the transformation of our defense over the course of the 2005 season, by the end they looked more aggressive than perhaps any other we've had. BB clearly can't do it all by himself and I wish he'd have made more of an effort to get Weis/Crennel back.

Rodney is only partly right; Bill doesn't have any confidence in his D. But saying we should play like we did in 2003 is pointless - we don't have the players we had in 03. If we had a front 7 of Seymour, Vrabel, McGinest etc then maybe we could be more aggressive but we don't. We tried playing some aggressive man to man earlier in the year and we were getting torched. Playing some soft zone is preferable to giving up some of the 2 minute scores we were giving up earlier in the year. It's a catch 22 situation as our pass D plain sucks, and a change in scheme isn't going to do much for either way.

We just have to realise that we are going to have a bad D all year - teams can move the ball on us at will. Teams will move the ball and score points. The way we win is by having some decent red zone D and hold teams to field goals, something that has been a small bright spot.

Coaching and/or scheme are not the main problem. IT IS TALENT. Numerous draft picks have washed out and we are playing scrubs and other people's cast offs in the secondary.

I don't mind Bill cutting Meriweather, Sanders, Bodden, Wheatley, Wilhite but he didn't/doesn't seem to have a plan to replace them. There were players out there in free agency who could have helped - Whitner, Rogers, Asomugha but for whatever reason we didn't pursue. It surely cannot have been his plan to have Antwan Molden/Philip Adams starting and in the meantime have good running backs not even close to seeing the field?

Rodney helped form the way things get done around here so you have to give him a pass on this.

LOVE IT!!

...now what are we going to do about that?

These two paragraphs seem to contradict one another. Meriweather, Sanders, and Bodden should not have been cut. There was absolutely no excuse for that, and those three losses (especially the first two) are the reasons why our secondary is in the sh!tter.

I hope BB got this memo, DAMN Rodney:rocker:
Interesting what he says about Brady as well:
All I’m saying, is if you wonder why (Tom) Brady, in back-to-back years in the postseason, loses, part of it is Brady and the offense not stepping up. But part of it is him putting pressure on himself thinking, ‘Our defense stinks. We’re going to have to score a lot of points if we want to have a chance to compete.’ ” Harrison said. “He’s not going to admit that. But put yourself in his shoes. And you’re the star quarterback. And you don’t have confidence in your defense.
.

Dear BB- I think maybe you need to re-hang those SB Team pics back on the wall. ;)

Rodney Harrison..... hater

Can someone explain to me why it's better to kick it long in this situation? Every way I look at it, I see the onside as the correct call.

If someone here had written what he said, the homers would be calling him an idiot. Glad he said what is obvious to anyone that watches the Patriots this year.

Like we need Harrison or a rocket scientist to figure out that our D
CAN'T LOCK IT IT UP or DOWN! RH hit it on'da head when he said Brady won't say anything but he knows he has to score everytime throw 500 yds to bail out our D. I've just wrote this in another thread other day. Just look at Brady's face & body language. BB is KILLING Brady and this team. What rebuilding? BB Is keeps taking away on'da fly. Draft picks, trades etc were not used properly and WASTED! oh and where is our pass rush I was screamin about last couple of yrs what did us in last yr vs Jets great reg season WASTED? Our pass rush = Anderson. Promising!

Give it time. The over-the-top homers have been slowly building their courage back up and have begun their propoganda campaign about last week's game. Pretty soon someone will rail at Rodney for not keeping it "in house", or for being out of touch, or for just being a media guy now, or something along those lines.

Rodney is correct

I would add to stop bringing in old scrap heap from other teams and get some YOUNGER veteran player FAs not out of their 20s

Stop wasting Brady's years away by trading away draft picks year after year,I don't care what the Patriots cap looks like in 5 years....the time to win is NOW,worry about other things later.

Make the draft a full defensive draft, the offense is fine,no big reason to add anyone except maybe a downfield WR,but you can get a FA there as well

Get a completely NEW coaching staff around Belichick...all the guys we have, including Pepper are simply lousy coaches who have not had these guys ready to play in big games the past few years

Belichick appears too relaxed, pigheaded and stubborn to make any changes to the way he does things so don't expect anything above to happen

The Patriots need some change NOW ...I don't care if they win 12 or more games in the regular season, changes need to be made into a playoff defense.

We are the Colts of the mid decade.....can't continue.

The thought that we are the colts of the mid decade makes me sick.:enranged: What makes it even more confusing is we know B.B. is a great defensive coach.

Well...if you have great defense you kick it long in hopes of forcing a quick 3 and out and getting the ball back with good field position.

The Broncos game where bill took a safety comes to mind.

I think he's right that you can't sit back in soft zones but the other problem is they started out the year with tight man to man and got torched doing that too. That secondary is just a mess right now. I wonder if they considered moving Butler or Bodden to FS? I think both would be an improvement. The talent evaluation is broken but you have to question the coaching as well as players don't seem to be coming along like they once did.

Let's not let the D-Line or especially the linebackers off the hook either. The linebacker coverage has been abysmal. I think it's time to get some smaller guys out there who have superior short area quickness. With the D-Line there sack numbers aren't half bad but they'll go a quarter at a time without pressure.

The on-side kick was the right call. All you have to do is look at the trend. I like coaches decision to on-side kick.

Kick the ball deep and they are going to have to call a few pass plays as they would be ~ 20 yard line. Fudge the on-side and of course they are going to run some plays. Deep and you have to pass from necessity, fudge the on-side and you are going to be running the ball, chewing up the clock and if you don't make a first, you can kick it deep with little to no time outs left.

Everyone is on the coach for this. No. I believe he made the right call, as he did not reviewing the Gronk TD, he never had the information he needed and it would have been a WAG (wild ass guess) if he did.

I am no less confident in his decision making now as before the Steelers game.

The secondary is the real issue on this team...duhhhh

Rodney is DEAD ON with his comments here. DEAD ON accurate in EVERYTHING he says. We need BB to relinquish some of his "duties" and hire a full time DC, and get someone else involved in buying the "defensive" groceries. His best success came WHEN he had other TOP NOTCH coordinators on his team. It would take alot more pressure off of him....and he might be able to stay in the coaching game alot longer if he does hire TOP notch coordinators to help out. These coordinators could also start helping out in the WHO to draft category. I think all too often BB is looking for the "guy no one else is looking at"....trying to outthink the room and lets his ego as being the "great oz" get in the way of making the SMART decisions. Clay Matthews.....Demarcus Ware....everyone knew with 99.9% certainty that these guys would be BEASTS in the NFL. But BB has to take the kid who NO ONE had picked to go that high....who is a project player...but IF he pans out....."Hey..what a genius!" Take the sure picks and get some top notch recruits in here to rebuild the BEAST that WAS this defense. You gotta love Rodney. Also.....I agree completely with what he said about Bodden. Go talk to the guy...try to get him re-engaged. We cut our entire starting secondary practically....sign a few jags and plug a few below average draft picks in there (S. Brown) and WONDER why we have to play SOFT and SCARED. Unacceptable.

Umm.. DeMarcus Ware was the 11th overall pick in 2005. How would the Pats have picked him when they only had the 32nd pick that year???

Clay Matthews.. Ok.. Maybe.. but there are things we don't know about Matthews. Such as how he breaks down film. How he handles coaching. And he may not have done a good job convincing BB during their interview that he'd be a good pick. We just don't know.

As for Bodden, I think you missed the report where BB and Bodden sat down and DID talk and the result of that talk was that both sides agreed it wasn't going to work..

Do the Pats need a DC? Yes. They also need someone who can effectively teach the CBs and Safeties to be aggressive, but not be out of position. I just don't think that Matt Patricia and Josh Boyers have that ability.. If Rodney was the coach for the DBs, I think we'd se a lot of difference.

Rodney Harrison..... hater

Actually he is an apparent kool aid drinking homer since he didn't advocate that BB should be relinquished of GM duities and be forced to bring on a D coordinator. Damn homer.

You realize that Rodney said nothing about BB relinquishing D coordinator duties?
