Re: Solder, really?

Belichick doesn't deserve criticism when it comes to drafting?

He's done his fair share of **** ups in the draft. This constant trading down is him thinking he is outsmarting everybody but after consecutive playoff losses where our lack of talent is evident we're the ones looking stupid. We have a need...we have solid players available. Why is it so goddamn hard to pick a player?
 Bill stayed put and picked his player and you are complaining about him trading down all the time! :youtheman:

Re: Solder, really?

Didnt bellichek say he was content with picking him at the spot without the trades?

Agreed. I am fine with adding two tonight. The only issue I would have is whether it is reasonable to expect to absorb three new offensive linemen. For me, I would love us to get say Hudson and Rackley. We'd still have three other picks to address other needs.

Interior OL is an urgent need even with Mankins here.

It doesn't feel as desperate today. The apparent operating rules to take effect seem to include Mankins' franchise tag. With Mankins onboard for LG, that leaves Kaczur and Connolly to fight for RG, with the same cast of characters backing them up. And NE still has eight picks remaining in the draft, and from an athletic perspective, the NE OG candidates aren't coming off the board before the late third at the earliest (unless NE thinks Ben Ijalana is their man and drafts him with #33 or it's trade down successor tomorrow).

Hudson and Rackley fail the athleticism standards Scar looks for in his round one and two OL: 30" vertical, 4.5 short shuttle, 7.5 3-cone, and 1.85 10 split (or better in each area).

Hudson does great in the 10 split, but his other numbers are horrid. The only player NE ever drafted with worse numbers was Greg Robinson-Randall. I don't see NE going down that road again.

Rackley's numbers are better, but his don't appear to get him a ticket to NE before the fourth round at best.

Ben Ijalana doesn't have round two numbers, but he was recovering from double sports hernia surgery so the shortfall might not matter if Scar likes his film.

If Stefan Wisniewski is still there in the mid-to-late third, he might do, his leg drive isn't up to snuff, but his agility isn't bad.

Re: Solder, really?

How in the world can you pass up Bowers AND Amukumara, for this guy, he could've very easily been there in the second round. I HATE this pick, I just don't get it at all, he's too much of a project and he doesn't have the mean streak you want from an offensive lineman. Even of they didn't want to take a conversion project like Bowers, Amukumara would've been the much better pick here, I was shocked that he fell as far as he did and thought that he would be picked by the Patriots when he fell all the way to 17. At 17, you should be picking someone who will have an impact this year and Solder just won't get it done. Even if Light doesn't come back, Solder is too raw to start is rookie year on the left OR right side. This is gonna be one of the worst picks they've ever made, because of of who was on the board at the time (Bowers, Amukumara, Jordan) and how raw of a prospect Solder is, he has too much legit bust potential. hopefully Bowers will maybe still be there at 28. SOLDER= BAD PICK.

colts and giants were rumoured to have him at the number 1 tackle on their board... colts took costanzo. therefore he wouldn't have lasted you have no basis other than your opinion. I like most wanted someone else but i also have the good sense to realise BB knows more than me. I will just have to wait and see on solder... just like i did with McCourty

I'm talking about pick #28. There were plenty of options available that would fit our needs. Our biggest need was a pass rush....with our first two picks we have done nothing to improve it.

Re: Solder, really?

you act like the draft is over and its time to go home lol

No, our biggest perceived need is the pass rush. There is plenty of time left to address this combined with the fact that the Patriots signed Marcus Stroud. People conveniently forget this tidbit.

No but i don't like that we pass on talent. I hope i'm wrong and BB does what he does.

Last years defense was just horrible and i want to see an actual pass rush next year. Not Kyle Arrington in a 3 point stance.

Re: Solder, really?

I think you should replace horrible with "young", you dont go 14-2 with a horrible defense

Actually last year's defense was ranked 8th in the NFL in total defense but don't let facts get in the way of your soap opera ranting.

We know what the areas for improvement are and I suggest you should step back from the ledge and wait and see what happens in the rest of the draft and through free agency knowing that Marcus Stroud has been signed and Ty Warren is more than likely back as general starting points.

Yeah you can go 14-2 with an horrible defense. Tom Brady having a career year will do that.

When you have guys coming off the streets and starting for you in playoff games you're pretty much horrible.

Re: Solder, really?

Even though our defense kept us in the games in the playoffs? we lost because of our offense, i'm not sure how u can call the patriots defense horrible. You just dont start getting good all of a sudden, we are very young and need to grow as a unit

Our D allowed 28 points and made Mark Sanchez look like Joe Montana. The problem with this D is that they need Tom Brady to be perfect every game, not turn the ball over and they need the opposing offense to make a mistake and turn the ball over. You can't count on that when the playoffs start.

Re: Solder, really?

Yea with bodden and wright/ty warren coming back as well as Stroud you really dont think we are going to get better with these young guys improving?

We will improve but by how much?

Re: Solder, really?

I'd be fine with going 14-2 again, we have alot of players at DE, some of them might not even make the team this year with all the depth we have, you have guys like wright/brace/stroud all fighting for a spot on the team just that competition alone is enough to improve this unit. then with the possibility of adding another book end with cunningham (brooks reed or whoever). we can easily add a defensive end in the second round or even the third

Get your own facts right...we were 25th in total defense. 8th in points. A number that is helped out alot by some bad weather, the offense setting the record for not turning the ball over, weak opposition, jets chokejob.

Overall I'm glad that we drafted Solder....OL was a definate need and i have alot of confidence in Scarnecchia. But the #28 pick kills me...Ingram,Heyward,Wilkerson are all guys that could've helped us from day 1 and upgraded this team at position of need. Did BB really feel all of those guys aren't considerably better than the talent available later? If so i hope he is right and makes me look like an idiot.
