Incarceratedbob, who has broken MANY stories on Twitter, claims a source told him that BB will shop Welker for a 2 or a high 3. The source said the team wants to go with Edelman as the slot guy.

Should be a great discussion. This guy is credible...get a Twitter acct & check him out.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

Makes no football sense, unless you think he'll still have the dropsies next season, and why would he?

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

I was surprised as well. But, with Edelman and Hernandez the team has very good prospects in a similar role. A better football business decision would be to put Welker $$$ into other areas.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

I would not be surprised. Edelman has shown with enough reps, he starts getting into a groove.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

well he did just bench him, i wouldn't be surprised if you guys did that and then made a play for VJ if he's gettable

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

This guy also had us close to trading for Vincent Jackson although he never actually said it would happen.

It's actually fully reasonable if you look at the Patriots. Welker has a year left before he can cash in for big bucks. Sure we would get a comp pick in 2013 but we could get more now. I love Welker but if you look at our team's history this is very reasonable especially as Edelman should be ready.

When we traded for Branch there was talk we were going to extend Welker; if we were trying to, this might be the answer to how close we came.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

I think the folks at Pats Propaganda disagree with the credible bit.

http://patspropaganda.com/

"I can’t say that I definitively know that this is untrue, but I do know that Bob reports a lot of stuff that never happens. His tweets surrounding Jim Harbaugh were pretty comical, he had Harbaugh as a lock to multiple places multiple times.
It’s also worth mentioning that Bob is a Jets fan, so we can’t rule out him just trying to drive a stake between the Pats and Welker after his first series benching.
Finally, and most logically, the season ended three days ago. Are we to assume that the Patriots, namely BB, already sat down, decided that they’d be better off getting either a 3rd second or third round pick than they’d be with WW coming into year two after an ACL injury (usually the year they get back to 100%)? Not only did they decide all this but they told people who then somehow leaked word back to Incarcerated Bob? Highly doubtful.
Perhaps Bob or his sources (likely Jets related) saw a small rift between BB and WW and wanted to try to up the stakes. The fact is that players have had rifts with BB before, but once it’s over with it’s in the past. So I find it unlikely that there would be residual tension based on Welker getting benched for one series."

Called it!

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

If this has any truth to it,
This actually makes sense. We could get a 1st for Welker, 2nd or 3rd my ass, maybe even a player for him? I think Edelman is a very capable slot receiver and PR.
That being said...I want to keep Wes lol.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

And Rapoport in response to someone else on Twitter:

"Yeah, whatever. Kinda dumb. He's been wrong on about 800 things."

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

Brady's not gonna be too happy about this. I remember he was extremely pi-ssed when they got rid of Branch in 06.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

oh crap, and I got myself the wes welker throwback jersey this year too. I must have jinxed it. I have a bad record of getting players jerseys and then they either retire or goes somewhere else.

p.s. I Don't BELIEVE IT.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

I seriously doubt we get rid of such a hard working playmaker as Welker. This is his first season back from a serious injury and it was productive, if not up to his lofty standards. Sounds allot like Tom in 09.

With that said I put nothing past BB and the Front Office. Maybe something's there we're not seeing or perhaps it'll come down to a pure business decision. As has been mentioned he was benched for a series in a playoff game... However that seemed a disciplinary action for comments made more then anything.

As I said, I severely doubt he goes anywhere.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

The thing is it seems like right now, half of our wrs can play the slot. If we can trade Welker and go for someone like VJax, then I would be okay with that.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

This makes sense and I could see it..

Hernandez plays a similar role to Welker? Since when?

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

This would be a stupid decision.
