In my opinion, experience is overrated in the playoffs. It all comes down to execution. It all comes down to what you accomplish on the field. Last year's superbowl winner, the Saints, were ripped up by the Seahawks who haven't been in the playoffs in a few years IIRC.

With the attitude and team spirit, I don't think it will be a concern. I don't think we will come out flat or practice poor technique. As long as we avoid mental mistakes and play for 60 full minutes, we will do great.

Im not sure I completely concur with these thoughts Patspsycho. I agree that execution is above experience. But execution is derived from experience, and I would think that having experience in big games, we’re you have won, gives you an edge to execute better than your opponent.

That said, there seems to be a misconception that the saints were “ripped”, as a team vs the seahawks.
Saints offense and Brees fought tooth and nail to win that game and scored 36 pts. If Bush was worth his salt , and caught that screen pass, it would have been 40 pts. Both more than enough to beat most teams.

“Brees, who completed a playoff-record 39 passes in 60 attempts for 404 yards”

36pts, while all of our main RB’s are on IR. Then remove Shockey, Bush in the second quarter. Now remove JJones and D.Thomas in the 4th quarter.
Brees has no RB’s and TE’s, Evans is made a TE for some plays till DT could get out there, and RB’s from our practice squad are playing. Colston, Maechum are still playing with injuries. Brees has his own problems with a knee, that payton said wont require surgery in the off season.

I myself don't know many teams in the NFL that can put up 36pts with so little to work with on offense. Even if its against a the seahawks.
The injuries can be looked up from week 15 on
New Orleans Saints | Injury Report

Where we agree is defense. We were lightly banged up, but there is no excuse for making the Seahawks offense look that good. They are not that good. Harper and our secondary were 10-15 yards away from 3 TD passes, and they were considered to be #2 in pass defense.
At some point we expected Payton to turn to G.Williams and say “exactly how many points do you want me to score with my depleted offense, sense you cant stop the #23 ranked offense in the NFL greg?”

just saying, only one side of the ball got spanked that day.
and your right, you guys will do just fine. You have the experience, execution, and health to make it happen. We will be pulling for you.

You know your team far better than I do so I will defer to you.

I think it's a little bit of comparing apples to oranges when it comes to the above questions regarding experience (or lack of) when you're comparing the Pats (vs the Jets) and the Saints (vs Seattle).

In the case with the Saints, the lack of experience was based on injuries and having to plug players in on the fly: running backs going on IR 24 hours before kickoff, and players injured during the game. In the case with the Patriots, the lack of experience refers to prior playoff experience and how many years they have been starters.

New Orleans was plugging in a new player mid-game to 24 hours before the game; the Pats were plugging in new starters four or five months ago. In my opinion you can't really compare the two situations.

Rex Ryan pulled out an interesting stat in his presser: Since 2005, Pats players have played combined 101 playoff games, Jets 196.

Rex Ryan also said he threw everything he had at the Patriots in the 45-3 rout. Any ability to confuse Brady does not exist.

That is a rather large discrepancy in playoff experience.

With that said, only 3 Jets have SB rings (Brunell w/ NO, Woody has 2 and Holmes w/ Pitt.)

By his logic, that should also mean something which is that you know how to win in the playoffs.

BB= 5 rings
Ryan= 1 ring

So which team has done more winning, Mr. Feet?

I am not a Pats fan but want you guys to win so bad. (The whole thing) I live in New York. Please shut these guys up. I wasn't sure which thread to post it but I figured the game thread works.

Simms: QB set to leave Mark in NE - NYPOST.com

Rex: It's '2nd biggest' game in our history - NYPOST.com

and the one that really annoys me:

Rex Ryan channels Joe Namath, guarantees win, says game vs. Patriots '2nd biggest' in Jets history

They never played one like this back then, though. One win, and the Jets are in the AFC title game for the second year in a row.
Then nobody, anywhere, gets to call them flukes or loudmouths again.

Please, BB, Brady, Pats Fans - do it for NY. 70% of us are rooting for you. End the misery in NY. (I am not a Yankees fan either)

As a Pats fan of 20+ years I can say that I don't think I've ever been more confident about a Patriots win than I do this Sunday against the Jests.

There is something special going on in Foxboro this year and this team seems more focused and prepared than ever. The team has bought into BB's philosophy, something that has been missing the past couple of years. This game will be a grudge match for a little while (1st quarter maybe) but then the Pats open it up and destroy the Jests!

Unfortunately, I don't think that this will shut them up 'cuz you just can't quiet stupid.

Re: Bruschi's breakdown:pats vs Jets

i think the Dline is quite thin to day the run D is fine.ypc in the GB game for e.g is less but they ran 35 times which shows they were able to run the ball consistently.

I would agree that of all the teams I mentioned, GB was able to move the ball most effectively on the ground. With that said, their longest gain was 12 yards so it wasn't like there were breakdowns all over the place. My same line of thought I would apply to the BAL playoff game. The Rice 83 yard run must be included b/c there were breakdowns all over the place and they were out muscled and pushed around. Take out that run and the Pats yielded 2.96 ypc but I don't think you can as they were in a run defense most of the game as Flacco had a bad shoulder and they worked from a short field 1/2 the game.

Of course keeping the score close helps as the the onside kick to start the game.Teams which think they need to match points will run less and give the D to make plays. Teams which can contain our offense initially for some time will keep running.Remains to be seen what happens sunday.

Agreed. People don't give the GB game plan enough credit. Take out the last 2 minutes and they were perfect in their execution both offensively and defensively.

That's fine, but I'd like to see what the combined wins versus losses totals is from those. Experience winning is a lot better than experience losing Rex, of course you wouldn't know that.

I have always taken some comfort in that rushing stat RW. But the Ravens still put up 30+ averaging less than 3 ypc on a day where their QB was not a factor. How come???

It simple and it corresponds to the Pats success this year. TURNOVERS - The Pats turned the ball over FOUR times (most of them early in the game). No one is going to beat them if they continue to keep it up. Its as simple as that.

You could also say that Flynn might end up being a pretty good QB in this league.

But if we do end up in the superbowl, I strongly suspect we will get the chance to see what
would have happened had Rodgers played in that game.

All I know is if the Patriots have the chance to 'run up the score' they should do it and show them what running up the score is whining *****es.

What's up guys? A Fin fan here just stopping by to wish the Pats/Pats fans luck tomorrow. The Jets are a totally classless organization and I hope Brady is relentless against them. Being a Fin Fan, of course I don't like the Pats, but I've always respected Brady, Belichick and how the organization is run. I'll admit that my team is so insignificant at the moment that I'm reduced to wishing misfortune upon the misreable Jets to salvage anything from this season. The Pats taking out the New York garbage would make my weekend. Good luck!

T-Minus 12 hours until D-Day. :rocker:

I decided at the start of the season that I'd put most of my emotional investment in enjoying the eventual Jets catastrophe, as I figured my odds (all teams assumed equal for simplicity's sake) for satisfaction were far greater :D Ah, Jets schadenfreude, the gift that keeps on giving, and doing so for so many... :) Having it happen at the hands of the Pats will make a nice cherry, but I do wish they'd have exited sooner... damn roaches, keep stomping and they come right back...

Made this back in '02, had almost forgotten about it. Maybe I should do an update! :D After the Raiders did their part, the Bucs, in turn, made themselves useful that year. Ah, memories. :p

NOT SIMMS UGHHHH

christ, he's done almost every Pats game. I cant stand that idiot, he adds absolutely nothing. Phil-osophy Har har har FU.

Any way to get pats game play commentary on internet radio. (i'm out of NE area). 98.5? WEEI? I can't listen to Nancy and Simms.....

If we believe what we read and hear, the NYJ are going to come out "flying high", "amped up", etc. It feels odd saying this, but the Patriots need to "withstand" that initial burst, and the Pats CANNOT give that other team ANY confidence at all. To open the game, If the Pats receive and go three and out or punt and they surrender good field position, it gives them confidence. If the NYJ drive and score a TD, it gives them all the confidence in the world.
It seems pretty obvious, but THE FIRST STEP TO WINNING THIS GAME is to WIN THE OPENING POSSESSION!
If the Patriots receive, score a touchdown; if the other team receives THREE AND OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually think a three and out on their first possession might demoralize that team more than the Patriots scoring a TD....
