Any love for Mayo?

I got the Patsfans memo, so I'm not sold, he isn't Patrick Willis or Ray Lewis so he pretty much sucks.

Man I just didn't see it! Stats are easy to misinterpret and while he wracked up a pile of tackles, I'd like to see how many of those were 7-10 yards off the line of scrimmage. I saw him miss a lot of assignments over the middle where he seemed completely unsure of what he was supposed to be doing.
Loved the win but I don't think Mayo was a force at all.

out of 16 tackles 14 were solo .he was a force , he just was not out there INT ,blocking kicks and punts im going re watch it and he makes big plays out there

yea? cuz i saw him pointing out to other lb's and even safeties where to be presnap and who to cover....almost every other play

I'd be interested to see where the tackles were made relative to the LOS. My first impression was that Mayo was everywhere but if he's making 16 tackles 5-6 yards off the LOS then that's not as impressive. The tackle stat is very misleading sometimes.

I don't recall any big stops by him or tackles behind the LOS but I may be wrong.

From the get-go, I thought Mayo did a great job. On I think the second play of the game, Fasano was in motion and ended up lead blocking up the middle and Mayo met him head on shed him, and made the tackle. Granted, it was a tight end and not a guard, but it's still what we've been hoping to see more of from him.

i agree to me he still looks a bit hesitant. not playing with instinct

Yeah, even when the D looked back in the early going he looked like one of the few guys who knew what was up. I saw him point out to Chung's assignment to him at least once or twice, for starters; guys that would have been wide open if Mayo hadn't been so alert.

One thing that should be mentioned as well is that Mayo did an outstanding job of getting off of blocks by multiple O-Lineman last night. For me, and others, that has been a major weakness for him. If he can continue doing that, he'll become even more of an impact player at WILB.

As a side note, I'm not surprised that Riddler hasn't been in this thread yet.

It's interesting that different people can watch the same game and see something completely different. I really thought he played poorly. I admit that I am not the most knowledgeable fan and I may have been misinterpreting what his responsibilities were and how well he met them. That said from what I saw, most of his tackles were were well back of the LOS. What did Ricki average per carry last night? 9.5 yards per or there about I believe!
I love the kid but I just didn't see it last night the way some folks did.
Respects,

Rich

Interesting, I wonder if Mayo will replace Maroney as the most polarizing player to Patriots fans...

Personally, he seems to me to be on the good-not-great career path. He's fast, a good tackler, but only has OK instincts and doesn't seem to be a big hitter.

It's hard to argue with 16 tackles, but that was the quietest 16 tackle game I've ever seen. He doesn't seem to make picks or sacks or tackles for a loss. He doesn't seem to be able to meet running backs in the hole.

That all said, I still think he might be good. He is more of the kind of player who makes sure that a 5 yd gain doesn't turn into a 15 yd gain. That isn't showy, but it's valuable. He seems to give a big cushion in coverage and allows a lot of catches, but at least he keep the play in front of him.

Maybe that's OK. The best plan may be for him to leave the playmaking to others and be the person who makes sure to map up any of their mistakes.

It's like the LB Jamie Sharper with Texans thing all over again, or Patrick Willis as a rookie or even DeMeco Ryans as a rookie with the Texans.

MLB on bad defenses rack up tackles and no i don't mean because they make good plays on the line of scrimmage to prevent good gains, i mean the D-Line isn't playing well, no one else is playing well and the MLB is the clean-up guy who rack up tackles and stops 6-8 yards past the first down mark each time.

I liked his tackle on Bess after Arrington totally failed. He had good speed catching up and brought him down quick. Was in the first quarter i think.

I think one reason he's racking up the numbers is because he doesn't miss the tackles that the 2-3 people do before him. Which is a problem that so many are getting to him, when they should have been down before reaching mayo.

I'm on record as having been worried about Mayo based on how he performed when he came back from injury last year. I also think his rookie year performance was uneven despite the award.

But he was good against Buffalo and great against Miami. The Monday night game was the best he's had so far. He was all over the field, making plays from sideline to sideline, shedding blocks and reading really well. A splendid performance, and made me see why the Patriots toyed with the idea last year to going with a lot of 4-3 fronts to feature Mayo. He's reached another level of performance.

I've got love for him. Wasn't there a thread about how he was bad and not a playmaker? He may be in the process of becoming one really soon. People forget that the man was battling that knee injury ALL of last season.

RIght now Mayo is Ted Johnson.

If our new MIKE candidate takes over the role for a good number of plays per week, then Mayo can be freed up a bit more to make plays beyond tackling.

What's wrong here? I have never seen so many weeping weenies in this forum before. Sickening.
