I believe there are 30! McCourty and Bryant are the only ones.
And yet the ESPN.com headline the other day was "pats CB mccourty remains unsigned" — WHAT ABOUT BRADFORD? WHAT ABOUT SPILLER?

That's an "easy out" on an excuse about passing on Dez Bryant to defense it by some blind statement that he could only flourish in the Dallas system yet not in our system due to complexity, I can't buy that at all, that's a cop out on passing on a supreme talent, that's weak if you ask me. I don't buy it.

What evidence btw, do you have that the Cowboys system is much less complex than our system due to Tony Romo ? Where are you getting this information, have you studied up on all of the complexities of each team's offensive scheme's?

Bottom line is this. I know you would never criticize your guy who never makes mistakes, that being BB, but when Dez Bryant starts lighting it up this Fall as McCourty makes a small impact on ST and maybe in the defensive backfield, don't say that "Well, Dez Bryant wouldn't do those same things in our offense due to a more complex play book" That doesn't cut it, you need a better BB excuse than some blanket statement like that.

Great post. You have no idea how elated I was when New England elected to pick McCourty over Bryant. Bryant scares me more than any other player in this draft. He would be the perfect replacement for Moss, not to mention, he could contribute immediately.

Nobody really cares about the Rams or the Bills.

A wide receiver with a 4.52 40 time would be the perfect replacement for Moss?

Running this through the JESTese translator:

"Bryant would have stunk up the joint something awful in New England."

;)

Easily. He has football speed.

Do you know what Jerry Rice's 40-time was?

Jerry Rice wouldn't have been "the perfect replacement for Moss" either. You're trying to equate receivers with different skills and styles.

Not at all. I would have given tremendous props to the Pats for taking him. I am not even joking. I liked Bryant that much. Glad he's far away in the NFC East.

************.

No words...

Welker would not be the perfect replacement for Moss, and Moss would not be the perfect replacement for Welker. You do realize that different receivers have different styles, right? If you were looking at those 49er teams, you'd have Taylor in the Moss position, not Rice.

Cut your losses now dude, on this board, BB is always correct, never in the wrong, so it's just something you will have to accept if you are going to hang around on this board. Rule #1, never, ever, ever question Bill Belichick. ON THIS TEAM, apparently Devon McCourty is going to have a greater impact over the course of his career than Dez Bryant WOULD EVER HAVE has a Patriot. Yes, you heard that right, people actually believe this, why you ask? Well because BB passed on Dez Bryant not once but twice to get McCourty as the prize, it has to be the right move.

Yes, our new little ST gunner, our new little nickel corner is going to have a much bigger impact over the guy they are considering to be the next game-changer wearing #88 in Dallas. Now we can continue our damn experiments with all of these 2nd-tier, out-dated and unproven WR's opposite Moss to try to take the heat of off Moss again (good luck with that), just like last year, where a Dez Bryant over there makes Moss better, makes Welker better, makes the new TE's better and makes the damn team better.

Bryant comes with a caveat emptor tag - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

"“I wouldn’t draft that kid unless I had someone to wake him up in the morning to get to meetings, someone to wake him up for practice and someone to wake him up for games,” one source said.

A second source said Bryant’s reputation was earned because he was consistently late to team activities. That included showing up late for games.

“We’re not just talking about being a little late for warmups, but like being late for the actual game,” a source said with a chuckle. “When you start to hear some of the stories of there, you go, ‘He did what?’ ”"

You think Belichick wants to be part of this circus ?

I can't wait until Dez Bryant gets his yellow jacket in Canton next month. Hasn't even played a single down in the NFL already a first ballot Hall of Famer. Boy, Belichick really whiffed on the best WR ever to play the game eventhough he hasn't even played the game in the NFL.

Jeez, you act like either Bryant or McCourty have even done anything in the NFL. For all we know, McCourty could be the next Deion Sanders and Bryant could make Chad Jackson look like a Hall of Famer.

We don't know if McCourty was the right or wrong pick or whether Belichick was a genius or a moron for passing on Bryant twice. My only point is just because if Bryant is special in Dallas doesn't mean he would be in NE. If all he does is excell in deep passes in Dallas it is safe to assume he wouldn't have been a success here. If he excels at more complex routes, he might have been a success here.

I have never said McCourty was the right pick. I am encouraged about what I read about the guy. The numbers show he was a shutdown CB in college where QBs made very few completed passes on him. He also excelled in special teams. Every draft pick is a crap shoot. But Belichick's average on first round picks is probably the best in the league.

Bryant could also be the next big bust WR acquistion who was supposed to be a game changer in Dallas (see Roy Williams). Or are you going to refuse to accept the fact that Bryant could end up being all hype and no production in the NFL or at the very least a disapointment?

As for McCourty, he was a shutdown CB at Rutgers. Belichick called him a four down player. The expectations are that he will be far more than just a nickel CB and gunner although that might be what he is his rookie year.

No, I never realized that, thanks.

Dude, you need to get over the fact they passed on Bryant and stop acting so butthurt. There's nothing more annoying than someone who is bitter because his team passed up on drafting his binky.

You realize Dez is as unproven as, say, Taylor Price is, don't you?

I agree with you 100% sir.

Really? So was Vernon Gholston. Gholston was drafted because he was incredibly talented. Exactly how is that working out for your Jets? Do you think a guy who got drafted because he was a sackmaster will get his first sack by the end of his third season in the league?

The NFL is littered with guys who had superior talent who never realized it. That is why there are so many busts and disapointments high in the first round every year. If Bryant was a can't miss talent (which is a myth in the NFL draft), he would have been drafted in the top 10 or even top 5.
