nice to know some people on the planet get it...even if it is halfway around the world...

Re: Brady and Pats contract talks moving along very well

I just can't believe any of this is in question at all.

The Patriots would never let the GOAT just walk away. If they were going to do that, they would have kept Cassel and traded Brady.

The other end to that is that Brady is not going to screw over the team that drafted him as that was a sour spot for him, or the team that stuck with him instead of Bledsoe, and stuck with him after a horrific injury.

He is going to retire a Patriot.

And let's not forget that he still carries something of a grudge against his beloved 49ers—after all, they were in the market for a quarterback that year . . . and passed over the GOAT for a JAG.

And yet the boobs at espn continue to pay guys like Clayton, for stirring up nonsense... its typical espn... I was not worried about him holding out, I think its usual Espn BS.... just cant understand why Clayton has a job..

Aww c'mon, it's not every day that you get the chance to draft Giovanni Carmazzi.

Re: Brady and Pats contract talks moving along very well

From the story:

one person familiar with the talks said there is ongoing dialogue that he described as positive and, while no deal is imminent, one now is within reach.

This all sounds great — though as with all the other media reports on the process, I need to take a believe-it-when-I-see-it approach. One thing the Pats and Brady have always had in common is they keep their business to themselves, so who ever really knows what's going on?

I guess one thing that gives me confidence is that this is an Adam Schefter story. IIRC, this is his first real foray into this story; his reporting tends to be more solid than pretty much any national writer (ie he actually does reporting).

Pure masculine beauty, my man. Beauty trumps intelligence and ability every time.

Horrible news for Ronny Plagiarist, Michele Felger and the rest of Boston mediot nation. They've been working overtime trying to "create" a story.

While grudgingly forced to accept the reality that Brady won't hold out, Florio isn't ready to give up the ghost of discontent just yet.

So even if he won't hold out, we're not buying the contention that the relationship "is as positive as it has been." Unless, of course, it wasn't as positive in the past as we'd all been led to believe.

That beast is as good as signed. Never a doubt, Morey.

Where did this "discontent" crap come from in the first place? I'm really interested to know. To my knowledge Brady hasn't done a single thing to suggest his unhappiness with the franchise. Where are these idiots getting this idea from?

One of there own, which is where the vast majority of them get their ideas and storylines from...lemmings.

The mediots are making it up.
Robert Kraft is a smart businessman. Robert Kraft knows how much Tom Brady and Co. "made" Patriot Place. Robert and Myra Kraft went to Costa Rica, not the ceremony out in LA, no Tom Brady asked Robert and Myra Kraft to attend his wedding in Costa Rica. That speaks directly to their relationship. Smart businessman and close friend Robert Kraft has always valued everything that Tom Brady has meant both on and off the field for the New England Patriot franchise. Tom Brady will re-sign, he will retire a Patriot. That has never been in doubt in my mind. Forget the mediots and their fiction. Just look at the men involved.

I wonder if this is all a setup.

Brady leaks "discontent" to a gullible media. They want it to be true so much they run with it.

If Brady can't get done, all the others don't get done because everyone is waiting on the other guys.

Finish the deal right before training camp so that the other guys waste time in training camp working on the contract.

A low contract number strains the Colts and "payme". A higher number forces a big number on the Colts.

I've never thought Brady would hold out, never have thought for a second there is any chance he doesn't get a long term deal in NE, and never thought he will be extended before a new CBA is done.

I didn't put any belief in the holdout/discontent stories. I don't think really put any in the "a deal might be completed this summer" either just because as a Pats fan I'd like that.

I don't think there is any coincidence to the timing of Schefter's report. The last thing Tom Brady, BB, or Kraft want to discuss during camp is the contract negotiations.

In the end it is all media games and the story likely remains as Schefter put it:
"If a deal cannot be struck, it will be primarily because of how complex the contract is and how difficult it is to complete it without knowing the specifics of the NFL's next collective bargaining agreement."

Ah - the mad scientist pulling the strings of the whole NFL. I thought that was BB's role, not Tom Brady's?

This is the point I can't believe a lot of people have trouble understanding. It's not like the new CBA is close and Kraft can guesstimate the contract rules with some inside info. The financial and salary cap structural landscape for 2011 and beyond is completely up in the air. There was no way this deal was going to get done as quickly as it would have if it were any other year.

Just look at every other Super Bowl caliber QB right now. Same boat. Case closed.
