Bad news for that 2011 Oakland pick?

I didn't say anything about Flacco's receivers, although Derrick Mason is far more reliable than anyone on the Skins. You could count Ray Rice as a receiver too, with 78 catches last year.

Passing is about more than the receivers he's throwing to. The Ravens have one of the best offensive lines in the league to go along with one of the best running back corps as well. That puts them light years ahead of the Redskins.

I'd say both Moss and Chris Cooley were a pretty decent set of hands.

Hah? Flacco has a more talented set of WR's? You sure? Even the TE*s are overrated. Granted the RB backline is a tad better ;)

Being talented and producing are two different things. Even so, with Boldin now added to the Ravens, who is better than the entire 'Skins WR's combined, they're better and more talented.

And without a shadow of a doubt, Heap > Cooley.

Moss is one of the most over-rated WR's in the league, and Cooley might be the worst blocking TE in the league.

Interesting conversation re: the Skins/Campbell. It's almost one of those metaphysical questions: Do players suck because they play on the Redskins, or do the Redskins go after players who suck?

I suppose the evidence is primarily the former. They're a dysfunctional team from the owner down, with no concept of any notion of chemistry or motivation, and it will be interesting how much the current "savior" coach can turn that around. It's not like they haven't tried before. Remember the Fun n Gun?

The Skins love to play fantasy football with a 5-year delay, and since J. Russell hasn't produced on anybody's fantasy roster yet... "I can haz McNabb?" Players know when they go to Washington it's a big fat paycheck they never have to prove themselves to collect, and success is purely optional. It won't be their butts, it'll be the coach's.

Maybe that's changing - maybe not. As it relates to Campbell, he's been a guy who really was second-guessed the entirety of his career here... and yes, he has sucked, so that's pretty appropriate. But moreso than a player coming out of a better organization, I'd say Campbell might have some upside, despite the track record to date.

I have a hard time putting together the words "Jason Campbell" and "Franchise Quarterback..." but I've been wrong before ;)

Of course, with any luck at all, the Raiders go winless... but I'd be happy w/bottom 1/3 of the league.

Cooley isnt paid to block. He's paid to devastate safties and burn linebackers downfield. He does it pretty well too.

Which Chris Cooley are you watching? And he's paid to block too, seeing as he's a Tight End. His snaps as a blocker and running routes are around 50-50.

You know much less than you think you do.

Enough about "the news". "The news" here is "The olds", it happened six weeks ago. All you have to support your "trading Seymour was a bad move" theory that you've spewed as nauseum is quotes from Raider players; and that's not news, sorry.
Why bother? You can't reason with him because he isn't serious. It's just a game to him. Remember what Mark Twain said about why you don't wrestle in the mud with pigs. Give youself a nice present:

Deus Irae
This message is hidden because Deus Irae is on your ignore list.

Every once is a while some quotes him and I get to read what he said and one glance is all it takes to validate my use of the ignore feature.

... any more than Rex Ryan eating a cheeseburger is news.
Rex Ryan eating a (as in a solitary) cheeseburger actually is news. It is Rex Ryan eating a couple dozen cheeseburgers that isn't news.

The point of the reporter is that the Raiders didn't even look good in shorts and t-shirts before. Now, they've at least come that far.

Please tell me you're joking.

I like this trade even if it ends up being #32...

The raiders still have to face much improved Denver, Chiefs, and the Chargers twice each, I would be shocked if they win more than 2 of those 6 games. They open the season at Tennessee, they have to travel to Pittsburg (week 11, so Big Ben will be back by then), they also have trips to San Fran (across the bridge) and to Arizona (eeks, Lienart), plus a week 14 trip across the country to Jacksonville.

Bad News is that they do have the Rams at home and the Colts coming in in week 16, so we all know that they will lay down if they are able to.

The Raiders schedule is pretty tough, Campbell is not Russell, but he isn't that much better, he still has a tendency to fumble the ball. I have a hard time seeing them with more than 4 wins......

Erm... no they aren't. And look at Cooley's blocking action. He gets way under the shoulders of most OLB\DE's- A much better blocker than YOU give him credit for. BTW.... Redskins' RB's are extremely good at picking up the blitz in stretch plays, which means that they TE only has to make intermittent contact with said oncoming rusher before taking a passing route.

You know less than YOU think YOU do.

0-7 (or 1-6 if Manning is resting in week 16...)

Season total 4-12 (5-11) (6-10)

I highlighted the games I think the Raiders have a good chance to
win.....Shanny would have stood pat with Campbell at least as his veteran starter if he thought just learning one more system was the answer...

The best I can see the Raiders is 6-10 which should still be a top 10
pick or better.

Thanks for the formatting cupofjoe, makes it a lot easier to see just how little impact adding another JAG QB generally has on a team with multiple JAG level starters... because like the old saying goes, when you have those you don't really have ONE.

Can't see em pulling out more than 6. Titans should be able to handle them for the opener. The rams are, well, the rams. The cards seem to have pulled a Florida Marlins and let the whole damn nucleus walk. I like denver early, not so sure about the december game. I'll take Singletary in SF over Cable 7 days a week and twice on sundays. KC will probably split. Then figure they steal one more from a December slump bound San Diego or just beat up on the mess that is the Jaguars (seriously, they run around Fl pulling old retired jews outta Jaguars to field their team? WTF is going on down there?). Expect Manning and Co. to got 1/2-3/4 of the game and that should be plenty of time to run up a seemingly insurmountable 14 point lead for the Raiders to work on. Late PI call bails out the dolts and they run the clock out to win by 3. either way, I dont think theyre going to be doing to much next year. I'd bet the farm that they dont win any more than 7, still think they max at 6, with a 4 win season being a very real possibility.

The point of the reporter is that the Raiders didn't even look good in shorts and t-shirts before. Now, they've at least come that far.

Yeah, but it seems like every year some pundit picks the Bills to rebound and contend and we know how that turns out. ;)

I'll believe it when I see it. Barring something drastic happening in Denver or SD I still don't see Oakland finishing higher than third in the West. But what do I know?

And even if Oakland puts together a good season despite the best efforts of Al Davis, I still don't see them going far in the playoffs, so worst case scenario their first-round pick is in the early 20s.

OK, let me just drop in for one minute to let y'all know that you have SERIOUSLY lost your collective shytte, with some obvious exceptions, like FreeTedWilliams....

That's 2-14, you donkeys!! And I'm being generous, with the "2"!! The Hawks and Rams have one HELL of a lot more of a game plan than the Raiders!!

I will now return to the Ether, whence I came....

Erm... no they aren't.

In Cooley's 354 snaps last year, he went out on passing patterns 182 times, with the remaining 172 spent blocking. That's 51.4% in routes, 48.6% blocking.

In 2008, he saw 982 snaps, 479 in routes, 503 blocking. That's 48.8% in routes, 51.2% blocking.

In 2007, he saw 511 snaps, 253 in routes, 258 blocking. That's 49.5% in routes, 50.5% blocking.

So, you were saying?

And look at Cooley's blocking action. He gets way under the shoulders of most OLB\DE's- A much better blocker than YOU give him credit for.

PFF's (admittedly not the greatest source, but non-biased at least) ratings of his blocking ability over the last 3 years look like this:

2007; -8.8%
2008; -16.1%
2008; -5.3%

Now, with living in the UK, we see plenty of the NFC East over seeing as all four are popular over here, and we've seen plenty of the Skins, as well watching highlights and the likes. Anyone who thinks Cooley is anything approaching a mediocre blocker, should frankly be ignored.

BTW.... Redskins' RB's are extremely good at picking up the blitz in stretch plays, which means that they TE only has to make intermittent contact with said oncoming rusher before taking a passing route.

It doesn't matter how much contact, PFF take into account the effectiveness of what he's doing. I think he's ****, they think he's ****.

You know less than YOU think YOU do.

Which is clearly about 27 nautical miles more than you sport. I'm here all week if you need correcting any more.

I remember when I used to try and predict football months before the season started...

Those stats I go along with. No coach thinks "OK, I want my TE to run routes on 18 of the 36 plays we have" before each game. But a 50 percent split is around what I entertain as Cooleys route running.

Yes. You're on the money again. PFF is a pretty ****ty source. Which is why I use Scout.com

Are we not taking into account the external factors such as two TE sets, gimmick plays, QB rolls from the pocket (Campbell being such a QB who preferred to scamper than take a 3, 5 or 7 step backdrop) that Washington play here? No? Or the fact that a significant proportion of Portis' plays go to the left and up the middle? No?

Have you even considered the fact that the scheme which Washington run doesnt rely on blocking TE's? Its not Marty Ball. But the fact is Cooley can block, granted he's no elite blocker, nor a good blocker. Just an under-rated blocker whose technique has greatly improved-

Ahh. You think Cooley is s***. So now we take oppinion from fact?
