Bad news for that 2011 Oakland pick?

Not sure why there's such negative response to this thread. The Raiders will be miles better than they were last year, strictly by virtue of replacing Russell with Campbell (who is a pretty decent QB). This will directly impact a first round pick for the Pats. It matters.

Honestly though, that's like me claiming I'm going to be a magnet for the ladies now that I've finally replaced my AMC Gremlin with a Dodge Dart.

0-7 (or 1-6 if Manning is resting in week 16...)

Season total 4-12 (5-11) (6-10)

I highlighted the games I think the Raiders have a good chance to
win.....Shanny would have stood pat with Campbell at least as his veteran starter if he thought just learning one more system was the answer...

The best I can see the Raiders is 6-10 which should still be a top 10
pick or better.

Thanks for the formatting cupofjoe, makes it a lot easier to see just how little impact adding another JAG QB generally has on a team with multiple JAG level starters... because like the old saying goes, when you have those you don't really have ONE.

I'll be happy if we get a top 15 pick.

As will I. But if there is a rookie cap impelemented next year, I would love a top five pick. I'm not entirely sold on Campbell being the savior of that franchise either. He looked absolutely horrible many a time with the Redskins last year.

It is news, and you know it. If it had been a negative piece about the Raiders, you'd have been happy as a clam to read about it. Now, if you want to feel free to criticize those who've posted stories about the Patriots' OTAs, you should do that. After all, in the interest of consistency and all...

Oh, wait.... YOU posted one of those threads. Well, enjoy your hypocrisy.

I'm sorry Deus, but the Raiders proclaiming that they're awesome this year is not news, any more than Rex Ryan eating a cheeseburger is news.

I agree, but at the same time, the Redskins have pretty much nothing going for their offense. They've have terrible coaching personnel, they have ****ty WRs, and no line. Pretty much the only thing going for them is Chris Cooley.

I would put their O-Line just above Oakland's. One of the biggest problems for Campbell was the amount of hits he was absorbing last year. That doesn't look like it's going to change much with the Raiders.

IF there is a rookie cap, then I would love to have the #1 overall pick. That being said, realistically looking at that Raiders team, I think they'll win their share of games especially in the divisions they're in. Denver and KC are both in transition and could have awful years. Meanwhile, the Raiders have a good amount of talent and have played competitively against good teams when the QB was not named Jamarcus.

And while I don't think Campbell will be setting the AFC West on fire, I think he'll do an adequate job enough to win them games where they would have lost with Russell at the helm.

SERIOUSLY.... No matter how sexy their passing game is, they have so many holes in their personnel its untrue. The coaching is a step below shambolic. Their leadership from top to bottom is non existent.

If by some miracle they go better than 0.333 for the year, I'll show my balls to Ellen DeGeneres.

Denver and KC are in transition, but are both better than Oakland at almost every single position.

Denver went 8-8 and had a positive points differential. They weren't good, but they weren't a bad team either.

KC was a bad team, and had a worse record than Oakland, but I've got a lot more faith in a team that scored 290 points and gave up 420, then I do in a team that scored 197 points and gave up 380. Only the Rams were worse than Oakland last year.

Agreed on Campbell. Living in New York, I've watched him play the Giants on a regular basis and the guy just doesn't bring it. He can sling the ball downfield, but isn't as mobile as was a Randall Cunningham, to whom he has been compared. Also, it might be a function of poor protection, but he never seems to get past his first or maybe second read.

The more I think about it, Mo's review of the Raiders' schedule looks pretty good. It's a lot tougher this year with the Colts, Texans and Jags. I also don't think that the niners are a pushover, nor the Dolphins who will probably give us fits as usual. I don't see any more than seven wins tops and they could easily repeat last year's five.

Why is this news ? We've known about this for 6 weeks.

Anyway, the top of the 2011 draft is strong, any pick inside the top 15 works for me. Of course there are some people who are desperate to prove that it was a bad trade.

I'll go so far as to say the fact that it's any first round pick works for me. If the team drafts well, they should get an elite first round player. Do I want it to be Top 5? Of course, but no matter how well the Raiders play, we have their first round pick. :)

Oh PLEASE let them have a QB controversy LOL... a top 5? Are you kiddin me??? My God. That's a top-15 PLUS a #2 in '12 or maybe a 3 in '11... oh PLEASE let the Raiders suck that bad...

My concern is that a violent thug with no capacity to control his anger might actually suit the Raiders quite well as a coach.

DA will file no criminal charges against Raiders Coach Tom Cable - Sacramento Sports - Kings, 49ers, Raiders, High School Sports | Sacramento Bee

Of course, if he gets himself sent to jail, that would be good for the Patriots -- and for womankind.

And we believe that the Raider can't beat the Broncos, Cardinals (lost their qb, their #2 WR, the whole middle of the defense) and Chiefs because?

I won't go into team specific wins or losses, just season win totals of the past 7 seasons with no major organizational changes: 5, 5, 4, 2, 4, 5, and 4. Those results compare nicely with the awful Bucs teams and the terrible Lions teams of the past. It's not so much how the Raiders lose their 11 - 14 games, but when. To paraphrase Al Davis, "Just win your 2 to 5 games, Baby!"

The Raiders can win games. Unfortunately, they are the Raiders so they will not win many and see no light on the horizon suggesting good things to come. The only real question is whether some other team may rise up and demonstrate sufficient incompetence in all phases of the game to snatch the annual loser trophy from the Raiders.

THANK you.

It's ASTONISHING how UNIVERSALLY the Raiders are PRESUMED to be on the verge of quasi-mediocrity or better, this year.

HELL: Anything's possible, I grant you.

But their SYSTEMIC awfulness trumps any transitory illusion of improvement that the likes of Jason Campbell might bring this year. Jason CAMPBELL??? Puh LEASE.

No way do the Redskins have a better offensive line than the Raiders. They literally had multiple practice squad players like Stephon Heyer and Chad Rinehart as their starters for the majority of the year. All of their linemen who used to be good were either injured for all or most of 2009 (Casey Rabach) or are shadows of their former selves.

I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that the Redskins had the worst offensive line in the league last year. They were just as bad as the Bills, and possibly worse, because unlike the Bills they can't even run-block. And even if they could, their running backs are all garbage.

The Raiders have a few sub-par, but not terrible starters like Gallery, who at least is a decent guard. And the Raiders do have better wide receivers and backs than the Redskins.

Campbell isn't going to take the Raiders to the Super Bowl, but he could be solid enough to get them to the playoffs. As I pointed out earlier, despite the fact that Campbell was working with his Nth offensive playbook, playing behind an awful line with no running game or wide receivers, AND working with multiple play callers throughout the year--one of whom (Sherm Lewis) didn't even know the playbook when he signed on halfway through the season--it seems pretty amazing that he still posted similar numbers (20 td's, 15 int's, 86.4) to a QB who is regarded as solid by fans, Joe Flacco (21 td's 12 int's, 88.9) who has a far more talented offense to work with.

Hah? Flacco has a more talented set of WR's? You sure? Even the TE*s are overrated. Granted the RB backline is a tad better ;)

I didn't say anything about Flacco's receivers, although Derrick Mason is far more reliable than anyone on the Skins. You could count Ray Rice as a receiver too, with 78 catches last year.

Passing is about more than the receivers he's throwing to. The Ravens have one of the best offensive lines in the league to go along with one of the best running back corps as well. That puts them light years ahead of the Redskins.
