OT: Tanguay out at 98.5

Personally I tune into whichever station is talking about something I care about. This week Dale N Holley were always talking about college basketball when I tuned in so I spent much of the week on 98.5 during the midday. Tanguay and Zolak were enjoyable for me personally, ya not perfect...but I can't really see Gresh being better. I can't listen to the Felger show even if the subject is good.....it doesn't even compare to the big show.

I guess it's hard for me to picture Gresh and Zolak on the same show....it seems like having 2 color guys together, at least Tanguay played well off of Zolak.

Don't like Tanguay. HATE Gresh. I wonder how Tom Curran would do on the radio. I like him.

Have always like Tom Curran ... he would be an interesting personality.

About time!! Tanguay was awful.
Putting Gresh with Zo with give 98.5 a block of man radio before the drama queens come on at 2.
This move will provide a much needed contrast in programming, i.e. all boy radio f/b all girl radio.
It'll also be a nice contrast to Dale and Holley. Can't listen to Holley for more than 5 minutes. I don't know how Dale does it. If you say it's a sunny day Holley will contest that point. Holley will challenge every opinion voiced no matter how big or small. If you say good morning to Mike Holley he'll think about it for 10 seconds and then tell you if he agrees with that or not and usually he won't won't. He'll find something wrong with your opinion that it's a good morning. Holley is awful.
I'll now make it a point to listen to 98.5 between 10 - 2.

I agree completely, I guess I don't understand appeal of Gresh to me it would be like listening to Flounder and as about as intelligent.

It's Tom E. Curran to you!

Too each his own but I don't really like Curran so much. He reminds of the guy who was told he was funny once and keeps trying the same lame gag time after time.

Ah are we letting Gresh's portly form interfere with your judgment of his as a newscaster? :)

Anyway as far as DA I used to love this guy because he was a great contrast (i.e. football) to Mikey Adams (baseball) but he has gone down a notch in my view because he is starting to parrot the same anti-Moss bilgewater that Felger and Callahan spew. Still he is about the best on the air right now.

As far as football hosts; here is how I would rate them (best to worst):

DA
Holley
The Pinky Packyderm / Fred SmerlasCurren
Gresh
Zo
John Dennis
Callahan
Felger

(special category for idiotic but entertaining):
Howard Cosell
Gerry Ganville

Curran is on EEI every other day, if you want to know how he does on the radio you should listen.

Ah, I did not know that. I'll try to stream it some time.

Which is the one that took on Nomar

Tanquay or Gresh

I know the Red Sox PR department was upset

Gresh's biggest problem is his abrasive voice, it's raspy and loud which can get annoying at times but his commentary is as good or better than anyone else's and he understands the X's and O's. He'll definitely add some spice and likely help the show.

Any way you cut it Patriots talk radio is just entertainment and Freddie Smerlas is one of the best at that. As much of a character as he is he does get the game, plus he's a major homer which I love ;) He'll definitely get you pumped lol. But-beyond the entertainment factor to me it's all the same; the only person who's truly been able to blend the game of football with an understanding of Bill Belichick plus be able to articulate all of that into something beyond mere speculation and pontification, is Tedy Bruschi.

It all depends on what you're looking for and as far as 98.5 goes I think Gresh will bring more to the show than Tanguay did. Gresh has the ability to get people pumped up about a topic, Tanguay didn't have that quality.

If you're referring to Flounder from Animal House, then that's an insult to Flounder.

Gresh is awful, abso-effin-lutely awful. I can't stand the sight of him; I can't stand the sound of him; I can't stand anything about him.

He's loud, abrasive, stupid-looking, slovenly, and - last but not least - a fu<&ing Stealers fan, for crap's sake. WTF is he doing on Patriots broadcasts?

Gresh sux so badly that he makes Zolak seem like Boomer Esiason by comparison, a nearly impossible feat.

Of all the footballers who played in NE either collegiately or professionally, many of whom still live in the area and more than a few of which residents are knowledgeable, thoughtful, candid, well-spoken & possessing of a more subtle sense of humor, why are we stuck with the bottom of the jock barrel?

Fred Smerlas is exactly why I hate most Patriots talk in this town. The guy has shown in the past the guy can talk football, but he rather play a character who wears a mink, talks in hyperboles, and rather be the butt of the joke than bring any real analysis to the table.

He went from intelligent breakdowns of the previous weekend's game to "Brady was awesome! Da! Do! Do! Do!" When he and Pete were doing the post game show together rumor was that the forced detainees at Gitmo to listen to endless hours of the replay. At least until the government deemed it cruel and unusual punishment.

Yep. The only time Smerlas will talk quasi in-depth analysis of football is when BB is on.

I have to wonder if Tanguay's leaving 98.5 is because of his unreasonable schedule. I mean between the radio station and his TV gig, he must have been working 60 hour weeks at best. It could have been that TV made him chose one or the other....or his wife.

The choice wasnt Tanguays

No. It wasn't. He got fired and apparently it came out of nowhere to those at the station. The person i was talking too did say that it is almost best for Tanguay because his schedule was grinding him into the ground. Weird though because he and gresh are friends.

What's interresting is what happens on the pats broadcasts. My understanding is they're seperate contracts. Person i spoke with said "hopefullY' he'll be back with the pats. Guess time will tell.

I thought Tanguay was great on that show and that he had to hold Zolak's hand.

Wow! This really isn't fair at all.
