Well said SunnyDenmark!
The Whiney Patriot Fan Club has been on overdrive since seasons end and quite frankly it's been rather embarrassing.
The silly commentary found here because the Patriots haven't gone wild in a weak FA year has really been quite lame.
IMO the Patriots have had a good off-season so far. They've taken care of their own roster business and have solidified their O line, their D line and the CB's with their signings.
Think they'll shore up the TE and WR spots by signings vets and will draft heavily on defense, getting younger, faster and more athletic on D.
Be amazing how much better the D backfield will look after the Patriots draft some pass rush help.
The Patriots will be fine!

SSDY

Every year the offseasons are the same. The Chicken Littles think more needs to be done, faster, and with bigger names/favorite binkies. Every year the homers deride the Chicken Littles and a back and forth ensues. Online, or in real life, the scenario plays itself out year after year and in city after city. In 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2007, the Patriots homers were right. In the other years, the Patriots Chicken Littles were either proven right or, at least, had an argument that they had been correct.

The homers were right in 2007 ..................UNTIL February of 2008

It isn't about being "right". Good grief, some people will just never get it.

People were complaining during the 2007 season. Apparently it's what the internet is for.

the what is it about?

Answer: Misery loves company.

People want their feelings validated - that they are not alone in thinking / feeling a certain way. That much I get (I am married after all :p).

What I don't get is seemingly non-stop ripping the most successful franchaise in the last decade. I can't believe they are actually FANS of the team. True, the NEP made mistakes as we all do. But they have better information - 'insider' info- on players, contracts, game film, locker room incidents, practices, combine interviews and so much more than we do. So while they can make mistakes, they have 200x better chance of making an informed accurate decision that we do sitting in our armchairs. Some don't give them the benefit of the doubt.

I am just a Sad Panda to hear all the negativity, a mere 10 days into FA. I thought more fans would be estatic to see Pats (for once) aggressively re-signing their own FA players.

I would be very curious to see the age distribution of the 'chicken littles' vs. the 'homers'. I feel those who are most negative - would probably be of the younger generations - who have not been through all those lean years. Good thing they are not Browns or Lions fans !

I think some fans do not savor that - mistakes or not - this is the golden period of the NEP. Obtaining a dynasty that by all accounts should not have been possible in the modern salary cap era. 20-30 years from now people will still be talking about Brady & Belichick as they do fondly of Montana / Walsh, and Bart Starr / Lombardi, Bradshaw / Chuck Noll.

I now realize the makeup of why some fans were booing the Pats during the playoff loss to the Ravens. Instead of motivating, urging, rooting them to do better, some just do not tolerate anything less than winning a SB championship each year - and getting ALL of the best players at each position in the following seasons FA period.

I take a big chance here in responding on a homer central thread.

What you call complaints...I would call discussion.

As far as I can tell there are no rules listed on this web site that discussion can only be glowing praise for BB and Patriots 24/7

Perhaps your definition of "complaining" is an exaggeration of what is going on, which is for the most part a genuine desire to understand what can be improved and what has gone wrong.

If true Ramon, then we have been viewing different threads....:)

As Deus Irae aptly said: SSDY

Not sure why it suddenly bothers me more this year....thought NEP having good signings 10 days into FA. Absolutely psyched about Wilfork, Bodden, TBC, Neil, Faulk back. Really psyched about the draft. Rebirth (Pats dynasty part deux ) could be just on the horizon.....

half empty or half full ?

I think you know my answer....:rocker:

fans also boo teams who pretty much curl up in a ball in the middle of the field.......24-0 at the end of the first quarter......I believe that is far from your notion that they only boo when they're not winning a championship.....when a team comes into your house and does that to you, you should be booed unless everybody there believed they did not belong there in the first place.....not sure if you watched the first quarter of the pats/ravens playoff game, but sometimes your team does deserve to get booed and that was certainly one of those moments....the game was pretty much over before the pats even broke a sweat

This is well written. I too would like to see the age distribution.. I think you are probably going to be correct in that those doing the most complaining and whining, were still in diapers in the early 90's.

I love the Pats and hate the posters who do nothing but *****, but I can understand the booing that day. $130 million dollars worth of talent playing that flat in a one-and-done tournament sure doesn't deserve a LETS GO TEAM. Maybe I wouldn't have bood the team had I been there that day, but I definitely wouldn't have been cheering, except maybe for Kevin Faulk, who might have been the only guy trying hard that day.

It never ceases to amaze me.. the dingbats with this sort of inflated opinion of themselves.

A person is not a homer if they don't share the same hysteria of the world is ending in 2012 crew. A person is not a homer if they identify that the Patriots invested heavily into retaining key personnel. A person is not a homer if they realize there is value assigned to players and position and the Patriots will simply not go higher than this.

A person is not a homer if they do not panic when they realize it's week 2 of free agency, the draft is yet to come and there is always the chance of trades and finding UDFA's.

in the early 90's on sunday's in the fall, I was usually in foxboro.....drunk having a blast watching a pretty lousy football team......no, wait....that was the late 80's......hold......it was the early 80's......

the first time I went to a pats game, foxboro didn't exist

you could make the same argument about someone who says 'in BB I trust'

the biggest 'change' any coach ever made to the pats is still fairbanks along with the personnel work of bucko kilroy......the bodies that kilroy piled up could well be the best player personnel work in the history of the pats

BB is lucky to have the situation he has being able to keep whoever he wants to keep.......who knows what kind of legacy the pats would have had if kraft had purchased the team 20 years earlier........I doubt they would have let guys like mike haynes, leon gray, and russ francis get away

like I said before, I first became 'realistic' about the pats after they got blown out by the bears in the superbowl....... even though the bears the bears already toyed with the pats once that year, I had convinced myself that the pats were going to easily win that game......then spent the last 3 quarters of that game realising the difference between being a homer and beaing realistic.......of course I want them to do well and win every game......does not mean I can sit there and honestly tell myself ever again that in that same situation that the pats would ever beat the bears.

True - it was a sorry performance, no doubt. But we differ on motivational tactics - ie. I prefer honey as it is sweeter than vingar. Or the 'carrot or whip' analogy. Like as a parent. And yes, imo most of these players are still kids (early 20's).

I truly believe AFTER the game is over, then ones criticism can be blunt. But while the game is still being played (outcome in doubt) - then I believe fans should support their team - encourange them to fight harder, instead of 'poisoning the air' with their disapproval. If the fans only cheer when the team is doing well in a game- where is the home team advantage?

Great assessment. Pitino was an egotistical jerk, but he was dead on about the Fellowship of the Miserable.

Most of the more incessant whiners are not fans so much as followers. For them the NFL is entertainment and damnit they want more non stop, year round bang for their buck. If you don't win it all...every snap, every game, every championship, every FA cycle, every draft cycle, then you suck and almost any alternative is preferable. And to prove their point they will point to every play someone else ran that succeeded (while ignoring those that failed), every win someone else racked up (while ignoring their losses), any championship won by someone else (ignoring the fact that they never won more than one and in some cases they haven't won a damn thing in 40+ years), every FA and draft signing or selection (with no regard for context or interest in discussing their percentage of failures or busts).

I remain convinced that Madden and Fantasy Football are at the core of the emerging fan problem. Just sign the best cumulative stat generators and you win even if the teams your selections play for lose...Combine that with the reality that east coast fans are cantankerous and demanding (aka passionate) by nature and none more so than those born or raised in NE and encouraged from an early age by an elitist media to always question authority, and you have a situation where half of us are never happy (because we know better than pros how to build a winner) and the half who more often than not are appreciative of and fascinated with the concept of winning more often than not get labeled blind homers. I think it's something in the water...

Very interesting MoLewisR! (Or can I call you MoLarryCurly?) Great food for thought.

I wonder if Dan Snyder uses Madden Franchaise mode as a test before FA period starts. It sure seems as if.....(Synders Playstation must have broke this year.:p

again....a performance like that deserves to be booed.......

as for honey versus vinegar, in the NFL, the money is the honey.....if you have to coax performance out of someone, they don't belong there......which was pretty evident in the lack of discipline this team displayed last year with the late for meeting situation invloving moss,guyton,thomas......thomas will be gone soon.....but I have to be honest.....the one I can't wait to go is moss......for all the entertainment he provides, he is still a cancer and this team will be better off when he is gone......people like that always tease you with ability, but provide the wrong attitude at the worst time....give me hines ward type any day

So your the fool me once type...and '85 was it and you are unable or unwilling to believe in anyone or anything since. Sounds like you should have gone into therapy. Instead you interact with the rest of us now theraputically.

Hi, my name is tanked and I'm a homerholic. I haven't believed in or been satisfied with a team in 25 years. If only Ian had a pin we could award you and send you home feeling validated. Unfortunately this is patsfans.com, where emtionally stable fans of a dynasty actually gather to appreciate how far we've come in 50 seasons. It's not the local chapter of patsyhomerholicsannonymous.com.

Once upon a time some kind soul here created an alternate web site for a guy whose sole focus in life was excoriating the OC of the NEP. Perhaps someone could do the same for all the soley focused homerholics who want nothing more than a place to vent their frustration with this damn team they have vowed to never trust again because it still doesn't win it all every season...

no.....I am simply realistic about my expectations.......

LOL at your need to take 3 paragraphs to communicate 1 sentence worth of thought

I think you are onto a interesting topic above. It is even more commonplace than just a few short years ago. There is also those Accuforcast game simulators, the fans voting beforehand which team should win, betting pools and as you mentioned the stat gens and Madden. We feel 'cheated' and angry when our (favorite) team loses to an underdog. All the stat gens and computer sims predicted a win - who is responsible for the loss?. Who is to blame!
