This is what kills me about this arguement, and its the type of thing that I hear alot from people, and alot of the times its comes from the so called experts. They make a point that is not valid. This would be a great point to make if the same did NOT apply to Brady, but it does. Brady has been to and won the SB with a running game that was equally as bad as the Colts is this year. First of, total rushing yards is not a good measuring stick since some teams run less then others. Like the Colts, with a QB like Manning they are a pass first offense. This season the Colts ran the ball fewer the all teams in the NFL but 1. Average wise, they averaged 3.5 ypc and were ranked 30th in the NFL. In 2001, with Antowain Smith at RB the Pats averaged 3.8 ypc and ranked 23rd in the NFL when they won the SuperBowl. In 2003 the Pats averaged 3.4 ypc and ranked 30th in the NFL when they won the SuperBowl, which is the same as the Colts averaged and ranked this year. The one big difference between the 09 Colts and 01/03 Pats, Brady did not have the receiving weapons like Wayne and Clark that Manning has this year. So I think its safe to say that Brady was handicapped more then Manning.

cosigned . . .

Wow. Zing.

Wonder if this guy regrets trolling a Patriot message board the morning his team is getting ready for the superbowl?

I was wondering this morning why this guy didn't have anything better to do?

Right. Right. Because people aren't already including him in that talk.

Dude, have you even looked at the title of this thread?
I know you'll never read this because we'll never see you in this group after tonight, but here are the facts:

Peyton Manning had a fantastic season, pure and simple. So everyone is high on him right now (or, at least, they were until Mr. Tracy Porter came along). But when all is said and done and everyone is looking at Peyton Manning 10, 20, 30 years down the road, he will need more than 1 Championship to be remembered with the likes of Montana, Elway, Bradshaw and yes, Brady.

Otherwise he'll also be in that 2nd tier with the likes of Favre or Young. Don't get me wrong... that's still some pretty elite company. But there is a whole other level for guys who won it more than once.

Are you saying Marino isn't considered an all-time great?
Marino is certainly an all-time great. But if you ask people "Name one single QB that you consider the greatest of all time" you're going to hear a lot of Montana's and hardly any Marino's.
This is not a bash on Brady, as i'm sure Pats fans will take it. I love the guy, but I am just facing reality. Right now, Manning is the better QB. Would I take him with the game on the line? Years past, that decision was easy.. Brady easily gets that pick. But now? It's hard to say
I think you (and the rest of the nation) are just being myopic. Manning had a better year than Brady, no doubt. So sure "right now" Manning is the better QB if "right now" is defined as the 2009 season.

But if Manning wants to be considered the greatest of all time, he will need to win at least 1 more. Especially if Brady succeeds in getting #4 one of these years.

Well the problem is, winning championships is a huge process, not a one person thing. It takes a solid starting team, depth, a great coaching staff, solid ownership, and even some luck. I mean the David Tyree catch certainly wasn't all skill, and without that one lucky catch, Brady wins #4, Pats get a perfect season, etc, etc.

Because of that catch, will Eli be remembered like Peyton? Will Ben Roethlisberger? He has two.

and the others????

say it.....say it! I know you know his name!

"There is still time to make more history, still time to win Super Bowls and exalt Manning to the pantheon next to Joe Montana, John Elway, Troy Aikman and the others, but this was an opportunity squandered. Or, better yet, taken away by a superior team".

Hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion, even if you don't even bother to try to support it. Shaughnessy remains the laziest writer around.

Dan can't remember the last time Forehead rolled snake eyes in a big game. Hmm, I seem to remember consecutive one and dones, both home losses against the Chargers in the 07 and 08 play-offs. In 2008, the Greatest Regular Season QB of all time amassed 17 points against an 8-8 San Diego juggernaut. I guess someone forgot to add those to the GOAT scrapbook.

Paycheck had a great year in 2009. But at least a little longer term perspective might be helpful here.

I can't wait to hear how Shaugnessy rationalizes the Colt's loss last night by saying the pick-6 wasn't Peyton's fault.

:D

He doesn,t need to say his name. It's all too obvious. With omission comes great platitudes!

Tom Brady ever lose a Super Bowl by throwing a pick? Nope.

Maybe this whole Peyton Greatest Ever thing can settle down a little now.

Maybe he will do a Brees > Brady column today, all things being "schadenfreude."

Assarotti weighs in:

The second ring makes all the difference in the world, though Peyton Manning already knew that. And as of today, solely with regard to winning, there is no point in comparing Manning to Tom Brady when Peyton is having enough trouble keeping up with his kid brother.

Brady is only better when it comes to winning, but if you need your Oreo licked, you know who to call.

Basic rule for me as a Pats fan when it comes to the media "contrarians": you need to earn your credibility, not by sucking up but by demonstrating at least as much insight as your average poster at Patsfans.com. No credibility, no attention from me

Unfortunately, most fall into the Borges, Shaughnessy, Felger and Massarotti category. Those who visit this site recognize them for what they are: trolls. Trolls with better access, but no better insight, are still trolls.

I prefer to read what better minds have to say, which is why I come here. :)

Oh Coltsfans!! Where art thou?

Oh Coltsfans!! Where art thou?

Hey, I'm still lurking, unhealthily.

I was out of line last night; a little tipsy, a little teed off. Brady's better; it was on national TV for all to see. I'd love Manning to pull off one of those drives when it really counts, but he simply hasn't yet.

I think most of the country was a little tipsy last night.

Not easy to say the day after your team doesn't win. Credit to you, after the Pats lost the last SB ( block block block the memory) I stayed offline for 2 weeks. Still have not seen the last few minutes.

So props to you, for stating what we find to be obvious.Very impressive showing by you.

hahaha... they troll this board all week in an attempt to 'rub it in'... and when they choke....it's like magic. GONE!

They are now being called the Atlanta Braves of the NFL
