Glad Asante Samuel holds no grudges...

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

Seeing the way our secondary has made QBs like Chad Henne and Kyle Orton look like All-Pros, I don't know how anyone can disagree. But they will.

There's more to pass defense than the secondary, as well as there being more to secondary issues than missing Samuel. I miss Rodney a lot more

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

He should have had that, obviously. And I was wrong.

Now, what about his blowing the game on coverage of Tyree.

The guy is a big choker.

That was such a sad play, he just completely gave up on his man. If he sticks with him, Eli doesn't even attempt that pass :(

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

Like I said, anything to make themselves feel better.

What you write literally makes no sense. I have no idea how Asante missing an INT makes me feel better. You're bizarre.

And yet you have Asante ballwashers on this thread defending him.

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

Well, Rodney Harrison was forced to take a pay cut. Ted Johnson had harsh words about the organization, and he's not the only player besides Samuel that's done so.

Heath Evans reportedly got much more money to play elsewhere as did Gay. They clearly felt that they'd rather play elsewhere with that extra coin.

As fans, we tend to either defend the team against any charges, no matter how obviously true, or to attack the team for any reason, no matter how petty. The reality is pretty much always going to be in the middle. Playing For the Patriots, and Bill Belichick, clearly has its downsides, whether we see them all or not: that's just the nature of humanity and perspective. It's alright for people to acknowledge that, just as it's alright to admit that Belichick isn't perfect.

who says bb is perfect. Certainly not me.There was a poster here who constantly blamed the oc for playcalling and left bb alone. i always said BB is incharge of the scheme and game plans and play calls.
Frankly , you have been trying to make this point that playing for BB has downsides only for the last week ever since the players got sent home. Can you say what is the upside for playing for Belichick or him as our head coach ?

I would rather have bb run the locker room and team however he wants than the players like in baltimore. Its his team and he has had more sucess than failure.Sure we are going through this long unbearable drought of no superbowl since last 4 yrs + but i would trust him in player management than any other reporter or ex disgruntled player . After all, he is the one who chose brady or bledsoe and set terry glenn home .Not very popular decisions then either...
Just my opinion...

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

His mistakes in the Super Bowl do not disqualify him to comment on the general state of the locker room during his tenure. His decision to go elsewhere for more money does not make him a locker room problem.

That didnt take long. If I started a thread against Mercury Morris how long before some "Patsfan" defended him

Re: Glad Assante Samual holds no grudges...

I don't think so, the interceptions do not make up for the failed gambles IMO. At least not for that price.

So instead, we have defenders who wait for the defender to catch the ball and then tackle them. But at least they come cheap.

So there's no price limit on a good player? Also is our secondary that bad, or do things seem worse than they are with a lack of pass rush?

Actually, I've noted some things about playing for the Patriots in the past, just as I've noted some upsides. Both will exist in pretty much any situation, and many of them will be simply a matter of perspective. One man's trash, and all that.

I would rather have a coach who's secure enough in his position that he doesn't feel the need to force the players to all speak in the same boring manner in front of the media. I'd rather have a coach who didn't view every question in an interview as something to be feared if it gets even remotely personal/team oriented. Not every player on every team is "great", "one of the best", etc...., and I'd rather have a coach who can discuss a game without pretending that's not the case. I'd rather have a coach who didn't overreact to weather-induced tardiness. I'd rather have a coach who didn't fall into the "5 minutes early is late" category of absolute nonsense.

The thing is, I'd like Belichick to be that coach. He's got a tremendous head for the game, and as close to a lifetime pass as any coach is going to get. He doesn't need to rely on that other garbage at this point.

That's my opinion, and we just see it differently, apparently.

But, again, Samuel's level of play does not disqualify him from discussing the Patriots locker room. For that matter, whether or not others considered him a leader in that locker room doesn't, either. And his desire to get money doesn't, either.

That's his quote. His level of play, level of leadership, hunger for money.... none of those things disqualify his comments.

No, that fact the he hasn't been here for almost 2 full seasons and is a current member of the Eagles is more than enough reason to keep his greedy mouth shut.

PS: We are 4th in the NFL in opponent's completion %.

Yup, he choked that game away all by himself. The offense had absolutely nothing to do with that loss. It's not like we scored 38 points against that same vaunted Giants defense weeks earlier. In New York. And in the cold.

Context. Samuel is in no position to be blaming Hobbs for the Super Bowl loss, given his blown coverage on the Tyree play. However, when discussing the locker room/player situation when he was with the team, he's qualified.

If Mercury Morris wants to discuss the perfect season, or to say that he doesn't want the Patriots to get there, he's qualified. If he wants to write a book about how to live your entire life without ever once having tried drugs, I've got some questions for him.

We don't need to attack the messenger every time something remotely negative about the Patriots is brought forth.

True he isn't solely to blame for the loss, but fact of the matter is on a play to force 4th down on the Giants last possession of the game while the Pats had the lead, he STOPPED COVERING his man mid-play. Say whatever you want about the game, and all the OL troubles etc..., but that stings.

Why? Frankly, he has less 'reason' to keep his mouth shut now that he's away from the situation and has no need to avoid ruffling feathers.

Maybe he should be more worried about the Eagles giving up 600 yards to the Giants and his tackling technique, I am sure Eagle fans are happy that he is thinking about another teams locker room.

Samuel can speak his mind all he wants... just like AD. It's his opinion and he's entitled to it, and by expressing it just like AD we get to see the true person he is. I'm glad we never resigned him.. he is a good player but in my opinion he is way overpaid and definitely a me first type of guy.
