Bill Belichick made wrong call in Patriots-Colts game - Peter King - SI.com

i dont get this. is BB really thinking this or trying to make a call to win the game. Whether it was a right or wrong call i dont know about this crap about arrogance.
Listening to mike and mike on espn they took king to task about these lines which was refreshing..

It was a call that people were guaranteed to be talking about today.

If it worked, it's EPIC WIN as far as knee-jerk reactions are concerned.

if it didn't, it's EPIC FAIL.

There really weren't any other possible outcomes.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

Not surprising..Peter King has his head up Manning's backside so far.. one can't see him...King is a smarmy hypoctite..who should be run out of Boston on the rails....The guy is just a national Borges...How can anyone believe any of what he writes, when his bias is so evident?? No surprise what he writes...

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

In all fairness to Peter King, he also has the Pats rated as his #3 team in the NFL, behind NO and Indy but ahead of Minnesota, Cincy and Pittsburgh. I'd probably rate the Pats #6 right now behind those 3 teams (I think we're better than the Steelers, but Pittsburgh has beaten Denver on the road whereas we lost, and beaten 8-1 Minnesota and 6-3 San Diego as well; right now we haven't beaten anyone with a record better than 5-4).

well..i know everyone will talk about it. even if its a bad call or a horrible call..was BB really thinking "iam smarter than they are" ? Why king makes these psychological assumptions i dont get .

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

Do not get the arrogance angle, if it worked would that decision have been arrogant????

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

Peter is the King of kneejerk reactions. Every week. Every season.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

it smacked of "let's try and win the game right now instead of giving peyton the ball with over a minute left." I wanted them to go for it and I could have sworn he got the first down

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

I read his MMQB and I don't understand King's position. I can see the 4th down call in SB42 or maybe a few others from the 07 season, but I don't see how King can make the case that BB went for it just because he wants to prove that he is smarter than anyone else.

Its arrogant because two years ago BB wouldn't give fat boy King an interview about spy gate

That's why it wasn't a bad call. You need 2 yards from one of the best offenses in football, all but GUARANTEED to WIN THE GAME. Also: I don't buy this "no faith in the defense" argument. The defense had a chance to stop the Colts in those last 28 yards. If they had stopped them, we'd be praising both them and Pees.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

Yeah, I'm sure BB was really thinking...."MWAHAHAHA those stupid bastards..." or something. About PM and the Colts. Please.

If anything, I think the move was more indicative of a lack of confidence...dare I say almost panic? Sorry BB. Just in this one isolated moment, I mean. So, you're human after all. ;) Still love, ya. Still sleeping with my grey hoodie! :D

EDIT: And I feel the need to say this with every post regarding that play...IMO...HE HAD THE DOWN!!!

Maybe he was listening to Collingsworth last night exclaim that he would be 'stunned' if BB went for it.

I was all for the call but got depressed when Rodney mentioned immediately after the game ended that BB had no confidence in his D and that it was a sad message to be sent in the locker room.

there is not a person in the world that thought the defense could stop them from going 29 1/3 yards in 2 minutes.

no way. no doubt in my mind.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

It smacked only of "this gives our team the best chance to win." No surprise that a potted plant like PK is just regurgitating the "disrepect" theme initiated by the Colts players.

I just don't see how people can fault Belichick here. He made a decision on what he thought gave his team the best chance to win the game. If it weren't for a terrible call, he would've been right, and we'd be praising how gutsy he is.

Manning would've gone from their 30 to our 30 in about 15 seconds. It would have come down to red area D anyway. If you think otherwise, you haven't watched enough Colts games.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

maybe someone who has a twitter account can give king a piece of their mind on his twitter page for talking crap like this

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

The fact that a bozo like King has taken this position should give pause to those on this forum that bash BB for the call.

Of course, BB is not without blame. If his plan was to go for it all along, he should've called a run on 3 and 2. And yes, of course he has veto power over OC's playcalls in this situation.

Re: Peter King :It smacked of I'm-smarter-than-they-are hubris

That is the dumbest opinion you will ever hear on this.

It was a simple decision - he didn't think his D would stop the Colts no matter where they got the ball. I didn't either. Neither did anyone I know. Honestly, no one watching that game did.

In the NFL coaching circles, coaching in a way you know will result in losing because that is what everyone does is more respected than playing to win. It is crazy but it is true.
