London fans upset at not running up the score?

I see what you're saying but I was referencing today's game. I don't think Belichick tries to stop scoring to take it easy on the other team. You put in backups to gain experience, and if your stars get hurt when you're trying to run it up, then you probably not that smart of a coach. Players on defense are more susceptible to injury. I think any coach with a big lead will try to stay on offense as long as possible.

I don't think there's that much regard for not running up the score as much as there is for injuries.

I don't disagree with any of that, but I don't really see how it contradicts anything I've said either (and that may well be my bad, long day with lots of alcohol and a tough, tough loss for my soccer team). I totally understand the reasoning, I've just been trying to explain the reasons (or what I perceive them to be anyway) behind the different attitude towards running up the score over here and why there were boos at the end when Hoyer knelt the game out.

Can we please cut out the "British know nothing about Football" stuff, please? It is not at all accurate in terms of the people who attended this game. As one of the posters said, the Buccs fans (and anyone-but-New England fans) were booing the Pats. Everyone at the game knew what a kneel down was. I know because I was there.

The same is true of the other two games at Wembley. OK, there were some corporate types who were there for the show, but most of the crowd were fans and "got it". Trust me, very few people in the UK have the money to pay $100-200 for a game they don't understand.

The same thing happens in most sports I can think of. Big lead, you let the air out of the ball and let time run out. Soccer it's the same thing.

I've been at Anfield when the crowd has booed Liverpool players wasting time with the ball in the corner. It's generaly frowned upon at Anfield and we were kind of happy when Bosingwa booted Benayoun in the back last season.

Going defensive is the coaches desicion while alot of the time you'll hear the crowd ask for another goal...Chants of "We want 5" ect ect. Like we say it's the pshyce here...

Tonight was the first ever full Football game I have seen and it was awesome. Everything about the experience was amazing.

The drunk American fans were all very polite and had a great spirit about them

That was the most noise they made all day. That game was suprisingly quiet. I know it was never really a good game, but I figured that the British NFL fans would make a lot more noise than that, being that they don't get to see the sport live over there as much as we do.

From what I saw there was a huge number of fans from other teams all there cheering against the Patriots. The neutrals turned up, saw their Buccaneer flags and decided to cheer for them.

I agree with you though, the British Patriots fans were too quiet.

Maybe it's a case of not knowing the protocols just yet or....probably far more likely (based on what I've heard about the infrequent number of games broadcast there) is they're sitting and just watching to try to understand all the nuances we've come to be accustomed to.

I really don't think Belichick's moves had ANYTHING to do with not wanting to run up the score.

He just wanted to end the game as quickly as possible. The best way to do that is to keep the clock moving, aka run the ball.

I think BB has learned that it's very important to shorten the end of a blowout in order to reduce the number of injuries on the team. That's part of the reason he subs the starters out; and the subs also get real game experience.

In addition, by running the ball you lower the risk of turnovers and reduce the chances of a miraculous comeback by the other team.

I don't believe for a second that BB gives a damn about the other team's feelings or the Patriots image in the media. 2007 should have proven that. But I think Brady's injury, and the number of injuries we had last year, has become a bigger part of his plan.

I think it didn't help that there weren't that many concentrated pockets of Pats fans. I was sat with the UKpatriots guys but most Pats fans got tickets where they could. We made quite a bit of noise.

I think most neutral fans hate the Pats, hence the cheering for the Bucs.

The anthem annoyed me. Our anthem is sung by the people too, it's fantastic when it's sung in unison and they were like mice yesterday and only woke up half way through.

The new show is excellent, though. And there's a lot of Tom Baker's Doctor in the current actor's performance. (I used to watch Doctor Who on PBS when I was a kid, too. )

Actually in golf too, you don't take chances in your golf shots and aim for the middle of the green and play for pars, not birdies. It's true in every sport...it's human nature.

Yeah, I think it made the atmosphere quite weird at times. In the 60 or so people around where I was sitting, there were maybe 4 Pats fans (with none of the 4 that close to each other), and the rest were supporting the Bucs. It made it really tough to be heard. It's definitely something I'd like to see changed for next year.

Edit: now that I think about it, maybe it wouldn't be right to put "away" fans together.

Pats should always run up the score. Points enter into the tiebreaker system and the media/NFL makes a big deal of the most points scored in a season..

Right now all we hear about is how the Saints are going to break the Pats record. That wouldn't have happened had BB been more cutthroat. I bet he feels bad about that because he is big history fan.
